In my pre-TWI days I read a book called Dealing With The Devil. I'm not sure if it was the one by C.S. Lovett or not. This would have been in about 1969 or 1970. The book has long since disappeared from my collection. One of the main ideas of the book was that you are supposed to memorize scripture and speak it directly to the devil when he attacks. It reminds me a lot of the retemory concept. Is anyone familiar with this book? Maybe it's just a coincidence that the title is so similar to Dealing with The Adversary, I'm not sure. I do remember, though, that the "On-Guard!" concept was there, though it was not stated in those words. Any thoughts or recollections along these lines?

Ya know This is probably a little off topic but this conversation reminded me of the silly "initiation into the inner sanctum" ceremony at the Advanced Class. Sure, everyone knew it was a joke.(I hope) But then again, maybe it was intended to serve a subtle "obviating" function as well. So, if someone (not an AC grad) were to hint at some inner society inside TWI, you would smugly do an "internal grin" and think they were misinformed. It might not be as far fetched as it seems. Don't forget, VP was already setting people up in "PLAF(The Wonder Class)" with his spin on how "all the women in the kingdom belonged to the king".

When I got witnessed to in 1972, one of the single young ladies immediately took it upon herself to undershepherd me. She made sure she spent much one-on-one time with me. The prospect of a personal relationship was a deliberate deception on her part. I can say this because neither she nor any of the other believers bothered to tell me she was already engaged. She did not wear a ring and never talked about the guy. Half way through the class I found out by accident but by then I was more interested in the class than I was in her. Right after the class ended, they got married. Too late. I was already hooked on The Way. This whole thing was sanctioned by the class instructor. TWI definitely used deceptive practices to sell "PLAF(The Wonder Class)" even as early as 1972. Does telling that incident embarrass me? Of course it does. But if it helps people understand how TWI has been a deceptive organization even from the early days, then so be it. edited to note this: The class instructor was not just some local believer, he was there specifically at the request of International HQ to run classes. He was there as a representative of the organization.

Billy Preston ("The Fifth Beetle") -
Same old same old. "Nah. We don't put him on a pedestal, we we just deny the inaccuracies we present as evidence of what a swell guy he was." Wierwille's so-called contributions that they cite are grossly misrepresented to the point of being flat out false. Maybe they are nice people, I don't know. The two old ladies in Arsenic And Old Lace were nice, too. That's how they managed to keep the window seat occupied.

Ironic, though, isn't it? They couldn't figure out whether or not it was OK to sleep with your neighbor's spouse and yet we trusted them to know the inside scoop on------ ETERNAL LIFE!

I'm stumped. -
His VPW page in the Christian heroes section is so laden with inaccuracies and falsehoods, it's impossible to view this as anything other than misguided adoration for Wierwille. Of course, one could buy the PFAL book and collaterals he is hawking at the bottom of the page and prove his claims for themself.

I wouldn't begin to judge him. I would, however, judge his web site. This isn't the first time I've read through it. It's a vehicle designed to worship an idol named V.P. Wierwille. Even the biographical data is inaccurate and biased. People need to accept the fact that the man was a huckster and a fraud.

HaHaHaHa!! I actually remember when we used to use that as a come-back to people who accused us of being brainwashed. (We really did think we were clever, though, didn't we?)

Have you had his vision thoroughly tested? In a person who senses are all functioning normally, 80% of the learning process is facilitated by the visual system. (Sheesh! I learned that all those years ago in school and finally I had an opportunity to say it. :) ) Now, I'm not just talking about visual acuity(the 20/20 chart). There are lots of other things too like stereopsis(depth perception), color deficiencies, eyes that want to turn this way or that when they get too tired, ambliopia(lazy eye), etc. It all plays a vital role in a child's ability to learn at a normal pace.

I listened to a little bit of it. I'll have to listen again when I can listen to it in its entirety. It sounds like quite a bit of the core concepts are very similar to TWI. More extreme but similar.

Well, I suppose a good many of us also bought into the Great Man of God, Leader, Teacher, etc. persona that Wierwille portrayed to us in our more naive days. What would you have us do now, continue on in the charade or admit we got fooled?
