TWI teaching on Hell, annihilationism and eternal torment.
def59 replied to Cynic's topic in About The Way
If you remember AOS, even the devil would be consumed by his own evil and not condemned by God. -
Raf My last post was a product of too much work and too little sleep. After some more sleep: Walter Cummings taught that if we renewed our minds we could live forever. By making Jesus into just a man, it brings in doctrines that we can be as good or greater than He. The Way did this. And probably its off shoots. When this happens, it's a slippery slope down to the point that if put on the mind of Christ we can be "perfect." (I should have used quotation marks originally. Apologies to all.) The Way's handling of this issue should serve as a wake-up call for us all. Its doctrines and practices, once unhooked from Jesus, began to show signs of demonic influence. The witch hunts, sexual predations, abuses, WayGb and other paranoia point to this. The Athletes of the Spirit production was the crowning achievement of this idolatry when it neglected Jesus altogether and focused on the man instead. I am glad we agree some points, that makes this discussion easier. Have a great day Raf.

Unfortunately the tri-uni debate is going to last for eternity. To those outside the fold, it looks pretty silly — as do all things Christian. To the inside, it is a matter of life and faith. For the very foundation of our faith is at stake. And the doctrine appeared earlier than the creeds, they just codified it. Christianity Today's web site has a section on history and offers some good facts.

Geo I understand, my BS meter goes off in the same way when I hear atheists and agnostics spout off on things they have no clue about. ;)-->

Two Russian scientists say it is naturally possible for the Red Sea crossing to have ocurred. Here's a link to the article. http://www.christianitytoday.com/tc/2004/004/9.11.html

Making Jesus out to be this perfect human smacks of idolatry to me if he is not God. People will teach that it is then possible for us to be perfect. Except Jesus was born sinless and thus had no sin nature. He was always in communion with the Father. We are born in sin so we know how hard it is to go without sin for very long. We needed a savior, one's whose credentials were unsmudged. By saying Jesus wasn't God, we set ourselves up for demonic influences to prompt us into thinking we are or can be gods.

Is God / The Word / Religion Spoiled for You Now?
def59 replied to ChasUFarley's topic in About The Way
What was spoiled for me? My desire to be in a cult, where I was one of the elite, special ones. My love for the King James Version of the Bible. My respect for any organization. Apple Juice in August. Nametags and trips to Ohio and Kansas. The ability to rationalize sin. Other than that, not much. -
Doesn't posting the comic strip on the Web violate copyright laws?

Thanks for some honest comments.

Democracy plays to the masses of the West. I think we are trying to make sure Iraq will be de-stablized for years, much the same way Germany was after WWII. Make them divided and impotent and they will cease to be warlike. A stable Iraq has invaded Israel, Kuwait and Iran and killed millions.

Ok for the record Jesus is called God in John 1:1, TWI's slick handling nothwithstanding. pros- according to Vines, does simply indicate location, but an intimate relationship. Jesus forgave sins, — who can forgive sins but God. In the story, where Jesus came to the disciples walking on the water, the crucial phrase is I am, which rests at the middle of the quote when he says don't be afraid, I am, and the goes on. Colossians - Paul says Jesus created everything Son of God and Son of Man are titles of divinity. Hebrews, God calls Jesus God. John 17:5 talks about the glory Jesus had before John 8:58 says Jesus was existant before Abraham. Take a look at the I am statements in John's Gospel and see if Jesus was wrong. Jesus sin? Get thee behind me Satan.

All of us are capable of atrocities. Sin has a way of wrecking one's life and others.

Why I reject belief in the Bible
def59 replied to Refiner's topic in Atheism, nontheism, skepticism: Questioning Faith
No Tom, There would be the same amount, we would just have no one to call an infidel. Atheistic regimes like USSR, Cuba and China were and aren't exactly peace and light. -
Good site, interesting topics.
