Why I reject belief in the Bible
def59 replied to Refiner's topic in Atheism, nontheism, skepticism: Questioning Faith
Lindy Read my post. God gives people chance after chance after chance. He shows his love to Israel, because (GASP) HE chose them. Got a problem with that? Don't come crying to me. He shows his love to others by giving them chances to repent. When they don't, there are consequences. Same in the NT, remember Annas and Saphria? Christian jews who got zapped. And when I use the word "Zapped" it can mean a slew of things. People get so offended around here. --> And what parent among us has not had to correct their child of bad behaviour at least once? God shows his love throughout the OT if you will open your eyes. But that might take faith and some people aren't ready to do that. -
So that means the Hulkster is the anti-Hulk?

Why I reject belief in the Bible
def59 replied to Refiner's topic in Atheism, nontheism, skepticism: Questioning Faith
You know, if anyone really took a close look at the OT they would find a God of grace and mercy and justice and judgement. I know judgement is a bad word in today's world. After all who can judge anyone? but this thread started off with a judgement by Refiner on God and Jesus. I see the OT stories and know that God is Light and in him is no darkness at all. In all cases, the people who were killed did so after rejecting the true God for idols made of stone and wood. But God also treated his own people with a hard hand at times. What loving parent isn't going to discipline from time to time. And there were times that God was going to destroy people and nations, but he stopped when they repented. (See Jonah). Curious how no one ever seems to bring that story up. God said he raises nations up and sends them down. How can he do this, the critics scream. Great thing about God, he doens't listen to critics, who are just sinful men and have no clue what God's holiness is all about. Examples of God's grace. Adam and Eve sin, God prepares skins for them so they will not freeze in the world outside Eden. Noah God lets his wife and kids and daughters-in-law come along. The rest? Well they had 100 years to change their minds, but they chose not to. Babel Man wants to be like God, so he builds a tower. God, who has promised not to wipe out the planet again, just twists the tongues so they walk off and form people groups. Abraham Repeatedly lies and distrusts God, but God gives him a son. Isaac Repeatedly lies and distrusts God, but God gives him a son. Jacob Wrestles with God, but does become the son of promise and gives birth to a nation. I could go on, but no one likes long posts. Suffice to say, if someone got zapped in the OT as people like to say, then they probably crossed a line. It wasn't always one sin and your gone. -
Ex I agree with WW on this one. There are plenty of places that will show that the God of the Bible is a loving God. As for Mike, heck we all can have some fun right.

Another update I finished "Next Door Savior" by Max Lucado Is anyone familiar with him. It was my first encounter with him. Great book. He's pro-Trinity, but still a good read for anyone interested in Jesus. Now I am on to "The Case for Christ" by Lee Strobel. He is an-atheist-turned-Christian, and a former journalist, a legal reporter for a Chicago paper. Now he writes books and works for Willow Creek Church outside of Chicago.

Dmiller Besides the fact that only vpw used the word administration, the problem with his definitions of dispensations is that it negates the words of Christ spoken in the Gospels and elevates Paul above Christ in authority. Remember how docvic used to teach the Gospels were OT? This is not true. The gospels were written in the NT period to new testament audience. And the OT is filled with prophecies about the Messiah fulfilled in the NT. And what about grace, was it only for the NT? Look at god's mercy and grace shown to people throughout the OT. -
I am speaking about their unity in non-conformity.

I find it amazing that our cult wasn't so special after all. Seems all these groups (JWs WWCOG, LDS) had similar knowledge about eternity.

EWD I am glad you came out. Confession is the first step to wholeness. I don't know where you'll end up, but at least you got honest on the outside to match up with what God already knew on the inside.

George Vpw got us to believe it through mind control and brainwashing. By getting only to read his stuff, listen to his tapes and hang out with other followers, our brains get warped into thinking only one way. Politicians and media types do this all the time. Beat the drum on an issue long enough and people believe it whether it is right or wrong.

OK How do you base your pov? Because I get tired of the same insults as well. I would rather find out where we agree and then see why we differ than to go for the throat (carpe jugulum) right off the bat. -

If all Mike had proposed was that PFAL contained God's truth and that people could apply it in their lives, we would not be having this debate. It is his worship of the book and its author and his subsequent conclusions that lead us to argue against his position.
