  1. I was only ONE of many who contacted DISH about the problem. I know better than to take credit for this one.... I'd love to think I made a difference, but in this case, if I had been an isolated case, it wouldn't have had any impact. Philips, I think is a good brand... I'd recommend checking Consumer Reports before buying an HDTV... I had been scanning the TVs at both Walmart and Target the last few weeks and noticed that many of the sets smaller than the one you're looking at had max resolution of only 720p... which is NOT HD... in 2005, when I was shopping for mine, those were called ED (not the disorder for which cialis is sometimes prescribed) , but enhanced definition... better than SD (standard), not as good as HD. When I pointed this out to the kid at Target, he acknowledged my point and said they try to carry "affordable" TVs. Which, to me, seems like intentional misleading. But a 47" with 1080p should give you really good performance... you didn't say if it was LCD, plasma or DLP. If I remember correctly, Tom Strange might have a DLP... I don't know anyone with a plasma set. But I like my LCD. I would STRONGLY recommend getting the extended warranty regardless of where you buy and which technology. The "bulb" for an LCD set can cost a couple hundred bucks and they can be fragile... AND... my condolences to Cubbies fans, now grieving another season lost. . . . . . . . . . . however, for everyone else at this point... AND
  2. I don't know who told you he wasn't producing this year, but I've posted within the last few days, probably a couple of times that he HAS been producing... and I've probably seen him more this year than anyone else here at GSC... 'cause Simon doesn't see as many games as I do... I don't know who you'd heard that from but whoever it is is full of s-h-i-t. His play has been key... he platoons with Conor Jackson, and is a switch-hitting pinch-hitter. He's outstanding defensively, and has provided MANY key hits at very important times. see post 2443 posted YESTERDAY. And Tom, I figured you weren't "bad mouthing" Clark. However, that information is just wrong. btw, the reason I popped on here just now was to joyfully announce (no, not that the Dbacks are leading the Cubs at Wrigley, which they ARE doing at the moment) that I got a call from DISH NETWORK letting me know that they NOW have TBS in HD! So, I switched and it WORKS!
  3. You don't have to guess... for two reasons... I was requesting clarification from Tom Strange. I highlighted what I was referring to. Not boring for people from (or cheering) Arizona, Cleveland, Boston and Denver. But still, not as exciting as it could be... and no where near as exciting as the WS were in 2001 and 2004. Of course, rhino, I understand your attempt at humor there by wondering why not just pay someone else to do the playing while the players take advantage of his presence in the locker room... ... but to clarify THAT point, IF Clark is no longer one of the players, his presence/influence in the locker room becomes meaningless...
  4. I have no idea what you mean by that... please explain. Thanks.
  5. You ain't just whistlin' dixie! The Dbacks DO look like they're having fun. Will they have the maturity to see it through? Well, they're not mature enough to "know" they should be scared... and their "chemistry" IS key. A couple of veterans... Tony Clark has been absolutely phenomenal as a platoon first baseman, switch hitting pinch-hitter AND (but not least) as a calming influence as he oozes confidence that the youngsters soak up in barrelfuls. A recent article in the AZ Republic highlighted how he's like a father figure (at age 35) to the kids, many of whom are between 20 and 25. And gold glover Orlando Hudson is like a player coach (though not playing now because of the hand injury). The other key veteran, Eric Byrnes just demonstrates all out hustle all the time. And manager Bob Melvin's supporting cast of coaches help him maintain a stoic appearance because he really doesn't have to fret the details. Bryan Price, the pitching coach, knew most of the pitchers as they were coming up in the team's farm system, as Price also worked in the Dback farm system before making it to Phoenix... and all of you should know what Kirk Gibson can mean to the team. Melvin doesn't have to play the heavy with the kids, as Gibson does. And Gibson TIMES everything, especially the pitchers' deliveries... which gives the team an edge in their baserunning.
  6. Go DBACKS!!!!!!!! In this, the 10th season of the Dbacks' franchise, it was the FIRST season that we've not had to listen to news reports of the woeful financial performance of the business end of the team. This while attendance at home games was lackluster at best (during the regular season). Heck, they even started making a big deal out of setting aside, for charities, $5.00 of every ticket purchased as a walk up (to the box office) I think it was for the month of September. Of course, the ticket prices are STILL much more than double what they were in season one (when I had upper deck season tickets that cost $6.50/seat/game). And there was plenty of grumbling in the community when the team declined to exercise its option to bring (2001 WS game 7 hero) Luis Gonzales (who drove in the winning run with his bloop single off of Mariano Riviera) back to play LF this year (for $10M)... even though Gonzo publicly declared he would be willing to take far less to play here in 2007. And, as Hiway29 knows quite well, Gonzo signed with the Dodgers... and my understanding is that he played well this season. The Dbacks raised a hearty crop of young talent from its farm system coming into this season! And those KIDS have played admirably.
  7. Now LindaZ, that isn't nice at all... since I (and maybe others) are cheering the Indians, you turn around and root for the "bad guys" in the Dbacks' series!
  8. You weren't counting chickens yet, were you? Of course there are some Cub fans at the game... btw, I DID get to watch the FIRST INNING in HD tonight!
  9. You've found some really good insight THIS time!
  10. btw, has anyone else seen the news item that a woman with whom Bonds apparently had a 10 year long affair (that lasted into Bonds second marriage) has told Reuters that Bonds once admitted to her that he had used steroids? The article also said that this woman will be in the Playboy magazine issue due to hit the newsstands this week.
  11. CBS sportsline's MLB scoreboard page now shows Marmol as the losing pitcher... THAT makes more sense.
  12. That's what I figured... I just hope the Angels don't get discouraged for the next games and hope they make them exciting games (too, but in different ways). All in all, a good first day of the playoffs! Dbacks 3, Cubs 1 W Webb (1-0), L Marmol (0-1) Okay, maybe I wasn't paying good attention because CBS sportsline has the loss to Zambrano... I thought he left with no on on base.... I guess I missed that. AND a save for Valverde!
  13. Oh, I got the TBS in HD thing figured out... but NOT resolved. Doesn't look like Dish Network is going to get off their a$$e$ and finish negotiations with Turner Broadcasting. ONE of the "if needed" games is scheduled for TNT, which has been in HD for a long time already, but it's not looking good for the rest of the NLDS or NLCS... the WS will be on FOX. And the only thing I watch on FOX (NO, NOT the "fixed news") is sports... and the WS WILL be in HD. Anyway, the Rockies looked pretty solid and I caught a little bit of the Sox game... I hope the Angels don't just roll over... that wouldn't be exciting at all... And LZ... I will definitely cheer for the Indians against the Yankers.
  14. Rockies take game one, 4-2, in Philadelphia.
  15. It's gonna be hard to count the Rockies out until the last out in their last loss... them being pretty much the hottest playoff team going in to the post season. Rockies starter Jeff Francis is getting relieved at this time.
  16. It's BETTER than being AT the game! I've learned, since yesterday, that the problem lies with unfinished NEGOTIATIONS between Echostar (which owns Dish Network) and Turner Broadcasting. It CAN be done in a matter of minutes, once those negotiations are finished and contracts are signed. There's NO question that it CAN be done, as many (most?) cable and satellite providers have been anticipating this move (the launch of TBS in HD) for months.
  17. You're not so bad yourself! ------- btw, for anyone interested... I started investigating this TBS thing (that TBS will be broadcasting most of the NL playoffs) today. One of the first things I learnt was that TBS IS now being broadcast in HD... on SOME carriers (cable and satellite providers). If you want to watch the games in HD and have Directv, you should already be set up to get TBS-HD channel. I understand that Comcast in SOME, but not all of its cities carries TBS-HD. If you're like me, a Dish Network subscriber, you do NOT yet have it available. After a nerve wracking couple of hours this afternoon, I figured out how to reach Dish's corporate offices in the Denver area. The phone number there (which is NOT listed) is (303) 723-1000. If you call them, tell them you do NOT want to be transferred to India or the Phillipines and that you want to find out why they do not yet carry TBS-HD. The more people that call, the more they'll get the idea that they better get it up STAT. I specifically did NOT want to call a toll-free number (800, 866, 877, or 888 area codes). This did not cost me any toll charges because my (cell) phone provider gives me unlimited local and long distance (in the USA) for NO extra charges.... so, if you don't pay extra, by all means, call the 303 number. Thanks, Rocky
  18. Many OTHERS would also disagree...
  19. Make no mistake, MANY who STILL are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints STILL believe in the practice of polygamy. And SOME of those folks DO practice "the principle," albeit in a clandestine manner. btw, But Now I See, HOW do you know these things that you speak of, for example, the things you say happen "around those parts?"
  20. Rocky

    Texas BBQ 2007

I dunno... just the other day, it sounded like Mr. stRanger was trying to get me to take some C L A S S !!!!
  21. That's what I saw too.... so, will the Rockies beat the Phils?
  22. oops! btw, the game IS on now, on TBS... why MLB contracted with a NON-HD network doesn't make any sense!
  23. OH MAN... what a great pic and great coverpage! btw, the Rockies/Brewers game is supposed to be on TBS if anyone wants to watch it.
  24. I thought his name was Bucky "fu*king" Dent!? Anyway, overall, this should be a good week... already, the baseball pundits are describing 2007 NL races as a new standard for pennant races to end the regular season. Even though there was plenty of confusion over the tiebreaker rules (and not just by US!), I think they might be correct.
