  1. It happens to the best of us... Yeah, WHAT happened? And I heard that it was Cheney's old chief of staff that leaked the Byrd story! btw, Buck Showalter must have lost his touch!
  2. Well, I am NOT a fan of FOX networks for much of anything... and the ONLY thing I watch on any of their channels is sports... and while McCarver's got his detractors, I DO like both him and Joe Buck. Other than that, yes, their coverage is, IMO not as good as ESPN/CBS/NBC usually... though there is some carryover/overlap since they use broadcasters that generally don't have exclusive network contracts. I think Bob Brenly's one of the best. I generally enjoyed Thom Brenemann when he was doing Dbacks games (and then also did Fox Saturday games of the week), but don't miss him at all since he went to Cincinnati to work with his father... Dbacks brought Don Sutton's son, Daron in to take Thom's place and I like Daron better... Anyway, that's more than you asked. But NO, Fox is far from my favorite group of networks. Ain't THAT the truth?!
  3. I hope not... though I don't have a personal favorite in this matchup, I hope it's as exciting as this ALCS has been... and if the Rockies have stayed hungry, as they showed for the previous MONTH, it should be better than last year.
  4. Florida? Could that be Tampa Bay? As to showing replays on the jumbotron, that's pretty much how I understood the siteeation. Hmmm... roofettes? Could it be that no one has called you to fix the HOLE in their ROOFETTE because they are, for some reason embarrassed about having a HOLE in their ROOFETTE? Or, maybe they "like" the hole in their roofette?
  5. I dunno... I think the REAL question is will any of you guys get to see any of the games IN PERSON (at Fenway Park or Coors Field)?
  6. It did look like Lofton was safe... BUT, that call didn't decide the game... looked a little like a play that Dback CF Chris Young was in last week. Indeed, extreme weather IS the issue. Btw, what about Miller Park in Milwalkee (sp?) and the new stadium in Pittsburgh? I thought they have roofs. Then there's Petco in SD... RARELY would there be more than a day or so in a row with heavy enough rain to matter, and NO extreme temps... so, NO roof there. Congrats to the BoSox and their fans... mstar and bolshevic... and condolences to Lifted Up and LindaZ. Indians had a great season... and they had a more exciting league championship series than the Dbacks.
  7. Ha! And here I've been saying for a long time now... YOUTH is wasted on the young! Btw, George, I think the BEST part of your plan is the freedom from debt! I have an extremely modest existence... but being debt free (including being done with the whole 'mortgage ' thing) makes ALL the difference in the world.
  8. I really didn't wonder too much about you before enduring that silly animation. HOLY COW! I don't buy beef... or that might have caused nightmares!
  9. Hap... at least you won't need anything for anxiety during or after tonight's game. I s'pose I'd also rather play baseball in 50F than 110F... but then again, that's why they have roofs!
  10. Rocky

    joe torre

I can't imagine ANYone would argue your point about Joe Torre.... I know I wouldn't.
  11. Yep... the odds makers still figure it'll be the Indians... either way it should be a good series... I remember the Dbacks getting to play in Denver in the first week of a season (forget which year/years) when the snow had to be cleared from the field. BRRRrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
  12. Yes, I wasn't contradicting you about when the first Denver game will be... As to stadium roofs, I would be shocked if ANY stadiums built (or substantially remodeled) henceforth were to be built without a roof. And Hap... aren't the early games in Denver usually VERY cold also?
  13. I highlighted two things in your post. First, your question... are you foolish to... ONLY you can answer that. HOW you decide also can only be determined by you. However, I would pose a couple of questions for you to consider... In each scenario you envision, there will be numerous variables. You will NOT be able to control all of them. FOR each scenario you envision, are there possibilities, or PROBABILITIES that certain things could happen that would cause you to regret having made that decision? Again, ONLY you can answer those. Second, 30 years ago, when I was shortly out of the USAF, I took a job with what then was a major telecommunications company. I was "lucky" enough to get a job doing what I had been trained to do in the military... Most of my co-workers were as old then as I am now. At THAT time, THEY were talking about the "imminent demise" of social security. THIRTY years ago. Much has changed since then. I left that job because of TWI (wow/corpse). However, even had I stayed, THAT job became obsolete with the nearly unimaginable (then) progress/new developments in communications technology... BUT social security remains. And unless Americans find a "universal" alternative, social security will survive US. btw, things may or may not be as bad for your friend as you imagine now because of her current financial difficulties... they might be, but things could turn for her in ways she might now not even realize are possible. And I'm not talking about winning the lottery. I faced similar difficulties a couple of years ago. I HAD to file bankruptcy in order to NOT lose my house to the mortgage holder. I was able to defer any further serious action until I could sell the house for enough money to pay off the liens (two mortgages) and STILL buy a manufactured home OUTRIGHT in a retirement community... and I'm still two years younger than the normal age limit. I AM retired. I don't travel much, but DO stay active, including volunteering at a child crisis shelter. For me, I have NO regrets about choices I've been able, or had to make. Yet, I can't help but think that had I been able to start saving for retirement at a younger age, things would have been less stressful during the transition to retirement for me.
  14. Methinks he had plenty of help tonight... how about that JD guy! Help me understand WHY there are still stadiums WITHOUT roofs!!!??? I can't imagine the weather is going to be great in Denver, Cleveland OR Boston throughout a potential 7 game series... which, IIRC, will start in the AL city.
  15. Nail biting anyone? 4-1 Sox on a grand salami by JD Drew.
  16. Indeed. I'm REALLY thankful that I got to see game 1, 2007 WS (a win, the game AND the series) live... I still have beany baby they gave away to everyone that went to that game!... I suppose I should photograph it and post the pic.
  17. What is "Baseball Franchise moves"? (or something like that). I didn't do as well in that category as I should have... I think an Indians/Rockies WS would be a good one! Wouldn't that be a wunnerful b'day present?! Happy b'day LindaZ!
  18. Indeed, hiway, you identified a distinction. Steinbrenner's classless tactic was, for him, SSDD. The end of the "Torre Era" in Yankeeville is certainly a big change.
  19. I'm sure you can find it by doing a google news search. However, in post #2607, I provided a link (one of many available) to a publicly available news source for that story.... the news broke everywhere other than at Greasespot before I posted it. Why in the world would you expect a Denver paper to make that a top story?
  20. I don't remember seeing, reading or writing by anyone here about any excuses for the dbacks loss. They got beat. End of story. Another story, which I posted but NO one acknowledged, is that Bob Melvin is the NL Manager of the Year. I believe he (and his coaching staff) deserve the honor. They achieved beyond expectations.
  21. The point you appeared to be trying to make is that the Rockies are actually younger than the Dbacks. That the Rockies are actually younger is simply, by virtue of THAT analysis, NOT true. The Rockies get the NL championship, who cares how old they are? I'm not going to correct the analysis or argue its merits. I pointed out examples of how it was faulty. If you want to hold onto it, far be it from me to oppose you. At this point, I'm just hoping for an exciting 2007 WS and a better Dbacks showing next year.
  22. That's FAULTY analysis. I don't know who the Rockies "regulars" are or would be, but I can tell you that whoever did yours plugged in the wrong players as regulars at a couple of positions, and failed to account for the fact that, for example, Ojeda has been a journeyman minor leaguer, despite his age. His age DOES give him some depth in understanding and skill that a younger guy might not have, but he ALSO is NEW to the MLB playoffs, AND he was only a regular due to someone else's injury. I'm not going to argue it with you, just give you those examples of how that analysis is nonsense. Take it or leave it. For some reason, when I tried to edit for grammar, it wouldn't take... I meant to say that whoever did the analysis you presented plugged in the wrong Dbacks players at a couple of positions.
  23. Oh, yes... I remember now... part of the VOOM HD channels... Adrenaline junkie sports... Naw, I don't watch it. but good action packed stuff.
  24. I'd be with you on that... it's been a LONGGGGGGGGGGGGGG time since they've been to the BIG October show! I think a Rockies/Indians match up would be awesome. Do you think Willy Tavarez has one of those Willie Mays over the shoulder basket catches in him?
