  1. HA! IF there HAD BEEN an internet before I left TWI, I'm sure I would have been one of those rebelious ones checking it out anyway. The last year I was in, a roommate and I bought a PC together, got a loan, for $1,500 for a machine that didn't even have a hard drive. It had two floppy drives and there were SOME local BBS (bulletin board) sites that we could dial up with our modem that probably didn't go faster than 1.2Kbs. I graduated from Arizona State in 1986 (at the ripe old age of 31, thank you very much twi) and barely learned how to work with LOTUS 1-2-3 spreadsheets before I earning that degree in accounting. Left twi only about 3 months after I graduated. and NEVER regretting leaving.
  2. Depression IS real. I've had family history of depression since long before I realized it. I have suffered from it since long before I experienced it acutely enough to HAVE TO acknowledge it. It IS treatable (medically), though for some, it may not go away permanently. Indeed, symptoms often go beyond noticable sadness, and not just in young people. Left untreated, it can cause serious physical/medical problems and to more extreme crises. There are famous, widely recognizable Americans who have experienced severe depression. Many of us have seen public service TV spots done by Mike Wallace (from 60 Minutes) encouraging people to seek treatment rather than ignoring the problem. He beat depression, but NOT by "just snapping out of it." I believe my family history made me susceptible and that long-term stress and emotionally traumatic events brought it on for me. I still deal with it, but have been able to organize my life to minimize stresses and therefore can lead a reasonably normal life. This is simply speculation on my part, but I wouldn't be surprised if a good deal of what many of us experienced from "hard a s s" (abusive) twi leadership corps or non-corps was a result of those persons being ill-prepared to cope with unreasonably high expectations that brought about some degree of depression in those persons. Difference in the illness? NO. Difference in what causes depression to manifest from one person to another? YES.

Yes, I predict that I will neither watch the game nor give a hoot. Baseball's over, it's time to grieve!
  4. Musta been those 4 days between when I signed up and when you did. Have the Dodgers hired Torre yet?
  5. Is that a burka you're wearing?
  6. From Broadway to Hollywood! Well, we know Joe Torre can handle prime time! Of course, him going to the Dodgers isn't necessarily something I personally would look forward to... but that's just me.
  7. Being reported by whom? (other than you...!)

    OMEGA 3 OILS

YO Rocky!.... er, I mean, RonG! My breakfast is similar, but NO raw egg or banana... and I use vanilla flavored (splenda sweetened) whey protein supplement... in skim milk... and I take potassium supplements (instead of bananas). But plenty of high fiber fruit later in the day... generally what's in season. and I've only lost about 90 pounds so far. But might eventually get to 150.
  9. I'd just settle for mid-February! --------- Hap, this is for you... I feel your pain! ;)
  10. btw, Arizona, well, Phoenix anyway, is the 5th largest city in the US... I wouldn't call it a small market. The payroll is not high because they weren't making any profit in the years up to and just after the 2001 championship season... it's only this season they started showing signs of not needing to screw the fan out of every dollar they had... Johnson, Schilling and company didn't come cheap in those early days.
  11. He probably also had baloney in his shoes!!!
  12. It doesn't look like it mattered. At least he didn't put Gagne out there! You might end up thankful for not having been able to get tickets!
  13. well, baseball fans... we have A GAME! 6-5 bottom of the 7th one out.
  14. There's a zillion Taco Bells here in the Phoenix area... I'll report on if I see any long lines in the drive-thru's. I DO hope the Rockies are as comfortable as Hap said... Thursday's game WAS better, in that it was closer, but the Rockies still looked, at the plate, a lot like the Dbacks did much of this season...

    OMEGA 3 OILS

I would imagine that your Dr encouraged you regarding exercise and nutrition also (even if you're already doing well in those areas), if the problem is triglycerides... there's plenty of good info available with regard to those areas too...
  16. That's Tuesday afternoon, right? Free Tacos at Taco Bell throughout the US, thanks to Tacoby Bellsbury!

    OMEGA 3 OILS

Yes, I do. Have family history of heart disease and I have had high cholesterol. Cholesterol is way down as I take zocor and eat good food (that's good for me) now. BUT, last fall, my cholesterol check showed too low level of HDL (the good cholesterol). Now, I've been working out at the gym vigorously, at least 4 times/week, for close to two years now. All of that together SHOULD have made my good cholesterol level plenty HIGH. But it didn't... so, my doc told to take Omega 3 AND flax seed oil. I did NOT decrease my exercise, but only added the two supplements. Cholesterol check in the spring showed excellent cholesterol levels, including the HDLs. So, yes, I have experience with good results. Do you have any specific questions?
  18. So, HAP.... didjya get any tickets?
  19. Joe Torre is scheduled to appear on The Late Show w/David Letterman on Monday, Oct 29.
  20. Ya know, rhino, when the topic is NOT politics, I'm actually beginning to appreciate your sense of humor...
