I'm confident it's not really him. -

Exactly. And how narcissistic is it that he calls his group the "remnant?" Geez Louise! -
Thanks T. I've been reflecting some lately on the fact that we're nearly 40 years out from the first big exodus and we're living a more abundantly rich inner life than we ever did in TWI. So much for Loy's proclamation that we'd be greasespots by midnight.

I just volunteer in my spare time.

I don't suppose we should be surprised. -
Such expressions are idioms, not scientific nomenclature. It's a matter of what the sayer intended to communicate about an emotional condition or event.

We have, over the two decades of GSC's online life, quibbled about when he started (from the start, or later perhaps), but my recollection is that it is generally accepted that he was indeed a CON ARTIST. The question then becomes, what goes on inside the mind of a con artist? Curiosity Stream (dot com) is an online provider of MANY research/documentary videos. A subscription for a year can be had for $20 or less. I logged on this evening and found a new series, Inside the Mind of a Con Artist. Some of you might be interested in checking it out.

I've tried to tell him.

A wonderful human and righteous expression about cults. Thanks both to Twinky and Bolshevik for posting this excellent, though provoking video.

The link works for me. I'll watch the video later because I'm listening to a live stream WaPo presentation on pandemic preparation.

I went to see Sharky's Machine a few times in a theater when I was serving a wow year in OH. Loved that movie.

No doubt I have been. I blame Wierwille and TWI. But I have worked on overcoming said deficit. Might 42 be included in this publication?
-
thanks... I remember something from my childhood about drilling all the way to China.
-
Btw, I don't get the reference to "42." To me, 42 represents Jackie Robinson.

That, my good friend, IMNSHO, is exquisitely profound. Thank you very much. Perhaps you hit on the core (fundamental) reality of life that TWI misses by miles. We have observed, in much detail over the last two decades, that Wierwille built a subculture that was ALL about (narcissism?) ALWAYS being right. Yet, in all of his "scientific precision and mathematical exactness" we (GSC has) have volumes of first hand accounts of his meanness (which is NOT a fruit of the spirit), his licentiousness, etc.

It's likely both. Talking past each other is the opposite of active listening. People don't listen to what they don't want to hear.
-
That's similar to how most writers do it.

I figure the process is cathartic for you (more power to you for that), but the bottom line is that to get people to actually read your posts, you may have to decide which words, sentences and paragraphs are necessary and and which can be deleted to still get your main points across.

They did marry. They have since divorced. They had two daughters. Sandy was 6th corps. She's on FB. Sorry, I only first saw your post now.

With study (and I believe you study stuff that will eventually lead you to some understanding), I believe it's available in a more literal sense to understand... but it's NOT reasoning that's behind it at all. It's other, very human, tendencies. Like tribalism and deep emotionalism. But very much is not any kind of logic or reasoning. I read people saying on social media that they can't understand the logic/reasoning behind certain political beliefs that are causing polarization and division all over the world these days. That's what spurred me to ask myself and in some of the experts' books that I've read similar questions. As a figure of speech however, I believe your question/statement is very TRUE and rational.
