  1. Chas, I have 5 direct ancestors that all fought for the South. My dad and brother are both members of Sons Of Confederate Veterans but I never joined. I have been to a few camp meetings and its interesting. I just don't get too bent out of shape about the taking down of the Confederate flag from public places and other "causes" that are near and dear to them. I used to listen to my grandmother talk about having listened to her grandfather who fought at Shiloh. He was shot in the neck and had to walk to the hospital tent bleeding so badly the blood was sloshing in his boots. My mom was the one who researched all my ancestors. I was a little disappointed to find out that there wasn't a Confederate general among them. Not even a lieutenant. Nope.... they were ALL lowly buck privates. :( sudo
  2. Ham, Like I was saying earlier.. I never saw or even HEARD about anyone having guns in TWI. But I left around 1987.... before all the paranoia as I understand it happened. sudo
  3. Ham, There's a big problem with your poll... there's no box to check on question #2 if someone was unaware of any gun toting. However, if you leave that blank... none of the other questions count. I'd suggest modifying it so that folks (like me) who saw no guns have an option to click. sudo
  4. "Have a great time to all the Texas BBQers!!!!! " But.... post here during the event. post pictures. Let us know how delicious the food and companionship are.... We're all there, really you know.... vicariously. :) sudo

    Happy Birthday Ham

Ham, You caught me red handed man. BPKS? I ain't got a clue. And I was lying about my fist. Heck I could hardly send ... --- ... if my life depended on it. But years ago... ah yes.. back in high school I helped one of my buddies build his first radio. He learned Morse code and got his novice license. I'd hang out with him for hours as we'd dot and dash people all around the world. He had post cards from folks as far away as India after "talking" with them. All in Morse code. It was a lot of fun but I never got good enough in Morse code to take the test. And it seems to me we did this on only 100 watts. After he upgraded and got voice I know he increased his wattage but that was after we graduated high school and I had taken off for Ole Miss. I still see him every now and then. Seems you don't have to even learn code to get a license any longer. You don't even have to know the electronics like you used to. But I digress.. Happy Birthday sudo (caught lying )

    What if...

Dooj, People do things in certain circumstances they would never do otherwise. I've been reading and posting here since the beginning and before that on WayDale. I've read posts from little peons (just twig coordinators and such) who were truly sorry for actions they had taken because they were Way Brained at the time. I had a bad experience in Philadelphia with a paid on-staff corps leader. He died not that long ago but before doing so he wrote me a long e-mail explaining his position and why he did as he did. I accepted it without question because I knew he was basically a good man. I think most of us did whatever we could to get people to "take the class". sudo

    Happy Birthday Ham

Calling all Greasespotters: -.-. --.- Happy Birthday Ham! You 'da man today! sudo(who has an excellent fist)
  15. Waysider, Thanks for the info but I still don't recall it. Could be... that it doesn't really make sense to me so it probably didn't back in my TWI days either. I never really bought all the TWI stuff hook line and sinker anyways and Bishop Pillai's book seemed like he was making a lot of it up to me. I was probably not a good little twigie. sudo
  16. Pardon me if I appear dense but that phrase: "If you don't control your thoughts the adversary will..." Was that something TWI taught? I've been out 20 years but I don't remember ever hearing it. Was it an LCM era thingee? sudo
  17. The motor coach came through Memphis back in about 1983 bringing Vic who held a branch wide twig meeting. I was able to talk my dad into coming so he could hear him teach. I was dumbfounded that my dad wasn't impressed. I didn't know the driver... it could have been Chris Geer for all I know but I DO remember this about him.... he was dressed just like a Greyhound bus driver. I thought that was a bit odd. sudo

Great Music Waysider! I remember listening to the 45 in 1963. Thanks for the nostalgia. sudo
  19. Mark, Re:"A lot of people lump the Old Testament in with things like the Flat Earth Society or Scientology's beliefs about space aliens. But there is actually quite a bit of scientific validation for the Old Testament that many people don't even realize" I suppose you are talking about the Creationist scientists maybe? Check out the Creationist museum I saw a poll that said that 60% of Americans believed that God created the world in six 24 hour days. sudo
  20. George, Funny how the principles are the same. Here's another snippet from the article: "Prosperity theology adds a distinctive layer of supernatural positive thinking. Adherents will reap rewards if they prove their faith to God by contributing heavily to their churches" Now where have we heard THAT before? sudo
  21. Waysider, Re:"(The tempo is just a smidge quicker than any Cab version I have heard thus far.)" Funny.. it sounds a lot slower to my ears. I'll see if I can't find another version to compare. sudo
  22. Rick, A little something for you... is it the original? Or an impersonator? Click HERE FOR MINNIE sudo
  23. Thehighway, At least in the picture they are all sitting in chairs. One even has a rocking chair. A lot of us would have to sit on the floor back in the 70's and 80's. I guess they figured we were young and wouldn't mind. Well, I minded. Nothing to lean against.. rear end starting to hurt. Sheesh! sudo
  24. Do you guys remember hearing in TWI that you couldn't out give God? The more money you gave to TWI then the more money God would give to you? It didn't make sense to me then... especially for those on a fixed income but it was widely taught. TWI isn't the only religion to teach this so-called prosperity Christianity. Here's what Time magazine has to say: Has the so-called Prosperity gospel turned its followers into some of the most willing participants — and hence, victims — of the current financial crisis? That's what a scholar of the fast-growing brand of Pentecostal Christianity believes. While researching a book on black televangelism, says Jonathan Walton, a religion professor at the University of California at Riverside, he realized that Prosperity's central promise — that God will "make a way" for poor people to enjoy the better things in life — had developed an additional, dangerous expression during the subprime-lending boom. Walton says that this encouraged congregants who got dicey mortgages to believe "God caused the bank to ignore my credit score and blessed me with my first house." The results, he says, "were disastrous, because they pretty much turned parishioners into prey for greedy brokers." Here's the link: God provides sudo
  25. Happy Birthday Old dude!!! I hope this is a good one for you. sudo
