  1. How can they go camping without a knife? I guess the use of hatchets then would be a felony. Geeze... how they gonna' cut firewood? Cut rope? I guess they'll use dinner knives? Oh, they're probably banned too. I'm sure somebody will think its the right thing to do. sudo
  2. Along the lines of what Waysider was saying, none of my friends' fathers ever came home from work in a suit and tie. Nor did any of us live in such a large house. I liked the show OK and I sensed it was about folks who were better off materially than those in my neighborhood. That didn't bother me though. It was like it would be great if my dad could just get a good job and we could move to a fancy place. sudo

    Sad Letters

Dear Mom & Dad, Our Scoutmaster told us to write to our parents in case you saw the flood on TV and are worried. We are okay. Only one of our tents and 2 sleeping bags got washed away. Luckily, none of us got drowned because we were all up on the mountain looking for Adam when it happened. Oh yes, please call Adam's mother and tell her he is okay. He can't write because of the cast. I got to ride in one of the search and rescue jeeps. It was neat. We never would have found Adam in the dark if it hadn't been for the lightning. Scoutmaster Ted got mad at Adam for going on a hike alone without telling anyone. Adam said he did tell him, but it was during the fire so he probably didn't hear him. Did you know that if you put gas on a fire, the gas will blow up? The wet wood didn't burn, but one of the tents did and also some of our clothes. Matthew is going to look weird until his hair grows back. We will be home on Saturday if Scoutmaster Ted gets the bus fixed. It wasn't his fault about the wreck. The brakes worked okay when we left. Scoutmaster Ted said that with a bus that old, you have to expect something to break down; that's probably why he can't get insurance. We think it's a neat bus. He doesn't care if we get it dirty, and if it's hot, sometimes he lets us ride on the fenders. It gets pretty hot with 45 people in a bus made for 24. He let us take turns riding in the trailer until the highway patrol man stopped and talked to us. Scoutmaster Ted is a neat guy. Don't worry, he is a good driver. In fact, he is teaching Jessie how to drive on the mountain roads where there aren't any cops. All we ever see up there are logging trucks. This morning all of the guys were diving off the rocks and swimming out to the rapids. Scoutmaster Ted wouldn't let me because I can't swim, and Adam was afraid he would sink because of his cast (it's concrete because we didn't have any plaster), so he let us take the canoe out. It was great. You can still see some of the trees under the water from the flood. Scoutmaster Ted isn't crabby like some scoutmasters. He didn't even get mad about the life jackets. He has to spend a lot of time working on the bus so we are trying not to cause him any trouble. Guess what? We have all passed our first aid merit badges. When Andrew dove into the lake and cut his arm, we got to see how a tourniquet works. Steven and I threw up, but Scoutmaster Ted said it probably was just food poisoning from the left-over chicken. He said they got sick that way with food they ate in prison. I'm so glad he got out and became our scoutmaster. He said he sure figured out how to get things done better while he was doing his time. By the way, what is a pedal-file? I have to go now. We are going to town to mail our letters & buy some more beer and ammo. Don't worry about anything. We are fine and tonight it's my turn to sleep in the Scoutmaster's tent. Love, Jimmie

    "Security"

Ham, So Linder is still the head of security? Heck, its so quiet about ANYTHING at all going on at "headquarters" now-a-days. This is the middle of August, too. I would've been burning up at the ROA right about now in another time and place. Seems so strange. Like it was all a dream. sudo
  5. If it'll make you feel any better... I know only about half of them. I must be a young whipper snapper . Happy birthday!! sudo

    A Mathematics problem

I guess George and Simon must first be properly introduced?? And that takes time? sudo
  7. Geo, Why do so many folks have such a hard time thinking rationally? This could have been Richard Dawkins or the Amazing Randi as well. The thinking process is the same. Logical. Concise. It upsets lots of people. sudo
  8. Wait a minute.. I don't remember the landing but... we're talking also about the first steps on the moon, right? Here's what I remember... it was a Sunday and I had gone to church that evening. When I got home, Neil Armstrong had already walked on the moon and I remember being miffed that I had missed it. Am I remembering it correctly I wonder? sudo
  9. S.O.W.E.R.S Grad 09, Howdy! You sound young, enthusiastic.... and a lot like I was 35 years ago. Good to see you. People here are all over the map on their beliefs now you'll see. The only thing we have in common is TWI and that at one time we all thought pretty much alike theologically. My how time changes things. So... there's no Way Corps any longer? sudo

    Another groaner

It was a hot summer's day, and Luke was in the marina, having a few beers aboard his boat, patriotically named the "Fourth of July." He was waiting for his friend, Opie, to arrive so they could go for a cruise. Opie was late, unfortunately, because he had to pick up his wife from her appointment with the obstetrician. Her examinations were cheap because the doctor, a fellow named Juan, was Opie's cousin. Anyway, the appointment went over time, and Opie was late getting to the marina. Luke had been drinking all this time, and was feeling no pain. When he saw Opie finally walking down the pier, he jumped up, staggered to the side of the boat to wave to his friend, and nearly fell in! Opie got there just in time to grab Luke. . . . Thus, it was that O. B. Juan's kin, Opie, saved Luke from falling to the dock side of the Fourth. sudo
  11. George, And sometimes, folks just get tired of playing. Need a break. That kind of thing. :) sudo
  12. After careful meta analysis of some very prestigious studies it is now very apparent that..... Everyone goes to the nether regions for varying amounts of time. There's really no disputing this as its top drawer research and analysis by independent scholarly sources. The best that can be hoped for is to become a trustee so that there's no problem with getting close enough to Beelzebub to actually get to know the guy.. I can do it for you guys, though because the Prince of darkness and myself are like.. tight. Just send me $2000 wire transfer and I'll have you stay in the afterlife all smoothed out. Give me a call.. BR-549. sudo

    A Strange thread

A happy birthday to yet another old coot around here.... Happy Birthday Tom Strange!! sudo
  14. Geeze QTBA, Just look around this forum. The Way International is a cult fer Heaven's sake. If this girl you are dating is at all into TWI (The Way International) she will have nothing to do with you if you resist efforts to join up. sudo
  15. My memory seems to tell me that it was officially happy household holiday but wasn't enforced. I don't remember anyone getting "reproved" over saying Christmas. I know for sure that I never said household holiday. I don't recall any wayfers having Christmas trees specifically but don't remember it being a big deal one way or the other. Attitudes could have varied a little by region, I guess. sudo
  16. I'll probably be watching "Its a Wonderful Life" as well. sudo
  17. Mark, You have a real flair with wordsmithing as everyone here has noted. I thought it was just great as well so now you're challenged to do another one! sudo
  18. George, You remember it well. They don't make 'em like that any longer. I wonder what Hiway 29 would think about the state of the art at the time. It seemed to have made quite an impression on those old enough to remember it. There again... didn't CBS run this for several years as well? sudo
  19. Who's old enough to remember this? I just happened to be thinking about it today when I say a another electric shaver commercial on TV. I wonder if its on YouTube I mused. Sure enough there it was after a simple search. The internet is great, huh? I know they ran this commercial (sometimes with modification) every Christmas time for YEARS!! sudo
  20. Socks, I know that line and why you posted it. But then.. I'm a movie buff. :) sudo

    Happy Birthday ex10

Happy Birthday Ex10! I see your name is listed at the bottom of the front page here as having a birthday today.... and that you are turning 4 years old. All I can say is that you are very mature for your age! sudo
  22. Happy birthday Matilda! You need to spend some more time with us like you did years ago. A lot of folks here don't even know you're one of the old timers! sudo
  23. Happy Birthday Rocky! It's a great time of year to have birthday celebrations! sudo
  24. I doubt any of the tramplers thought they were actually killing anyone. These were Walmart shoppers so I also doubt that they were the type to say, put a gun to a clerk's head to get what they wanted. It was an ugly scene all the same which resulted in an unintended death. Mobs do things as a group that individually would not happen. I hope this will help change the way some stores do the black Friday thing. Its almost asking for a trampling when you have super low prices for a limited time for come first served.... and then open the flood gates. sudo
  25. I'm sure we'll get some other opinions here but so far I have to agree with what's been said here. Consumer Reports regularly ranks American made vehicles below Toyota and Honda. I've driven a Toyota for the last 30 years. A lot of the problem is that the "Big 3" have to pay way more out to their employees than the non-union foreign automobile manufacturers. That makes their vehicles more expensive on the front end and they have to take make up for it somehow. Since they have to have their vehicles priced competitively with the foreign guys it stands to reason that quality is going to suffer. If they reorganized under bankruptcy protection, it is my understanding that they could nullify some of the more onerous parts of the union contracts. sudo
