  1. I know of too many examples of where this has not been true. Too many people have been told to ask their "earthly non-ministry" family members for help when they've really needed someone to depend on. The "household" doctrine of TWI was pounded into our brains. Not only in classes, but in every teaching and every magazine article. No wonder so many people are afraid of leaving. These teachings have not stopped and as a last resort they tell people they should stand with the ministry that taught them the Word. Like we owe them something.
  2. There are a few in TWI who were ordained, but now are dropped from WC and considered "non-functioning" ministers.
  3. I remember getting my face melted during fellowship one time for praying "if it's Your will" during prayer. I was told that saying that wasn't believing God for the outcome I had prayed for. But, doesn't the Lord's Prayer, the one where Jesus teaches us HOW TO PRAY, talk about "Thy will be done". I hate saying all those "thank you"s in fellowship prayers.
  4. The angels booklet they put out doesn't have much information at all. The majority of the book is talking about Stephen having the "face of an angel" and what that means. Maybe TWI II taught about angels differently but what they taught us was the guardian angel line. Of course they talked about the spiritual battle going on, but that was in the context of angels and devil spirits fighting , not necessarily because they were protecting us on an individual level. Just good battling evil in general. The verse about "voluntary worshipping of angels" was used quite a bit. We could not wear angel pins, have angels on our Christmas trees or have anything to do with angels - period. Angels don't have wings and God-forbid we should not confront that among our family, friends and co-workers. LCM went on for a long time about people worshipping angels and how Nicole Brown-Simpson's family started wearing angel pins because Nicole was wearing one when she was killed. He screamed at the top of his lungs about that and how the angel wasn't protecting her when it was needed and that the "angel" was really a devil spirit. It's a dog whistle for devil spirits, he said. He taught how we are superior to the angels and will be judging them at the return. We learned to despise angels almost as much as Jesus from LCM's teachings. What brought this up was the verse Hebrews 13:2 - Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares. We were reading around this verse in fellowship and I thought about how that ties into doing good unto ALL MEN. It seems as though we may have interaction with angels and we may be protected, cared for and treated as particular individuals to them. That maybe it isn't some ethereal spiritual battle that doesn't concern us because it's going on in the firmament. The angels are on their own and we're on our own just doesn't seem to fit for me.
  5. That's the TWI way. JT, you mentioned it in your observations, but left it out of your list: 6. Give us your money. God only honors proper giving and that would be to "give back to the ministry that taught you the Word." Even the STS is always about these same topics. Nothing new under the sun. They must subscribe to the philosphy that if you say it enough times ("Stay in the household or bad things will happen. TWI is the greatest ministry.") and people will eventually believe it. There is no substance to their teachings. I wonder if there ever were or if I was so desperate for answers when I got involved that it just seemed like they had substance to their teachings.
  6. What do you believe about angels? We were taught that they were only around long enough for a person to get saved and then we were on our own. I found this verse: Psa 91:11 It seems to contradict that teaching.
  7. My kids use Cetaphil (sp?). The dermotologist recommended it for dry skin we were having to deal with.
  8. Oak, I believe I have used quite a bit of your research and observations on here in my rebuttals at home. If I save or print something to work on from home I take any references to the site and posters off the document. That's why I don't know who poasted what, but thank you very much for posting the things you do! The problem with Joe Believer sharing things they find that contradict what TWI teaches is that we don't have any credibility and they think we're stupid. My own family doesn't believe me when I show them contradictions, but when someone from HQ shares the exact same thing they ooh and aaahh over it like they've never heard it before. I think they have forgotten the verse about the foolish things confounding the wise. HQ and the WC love it because they know they can continue lying and deceiving to get our money and manipulate us because the people left must be stupid to have stuck with them for so long. It's like those tobacco executives. They don't smoke because they KNOW it's deadly, but they aren't going to admit to US and lose the money they get from us. Besides that, to change something means they have to admit that they never worked it and just took his word for what he taught. I doubt half of them even know how to really research the scriptures.
  9. The number of in-residence WC and staff is really low. I think there are only about 20 people in WC training now. They must have to work constantly to keep that place up and running. They won't allow us to go visit or vacation there anymore. It's really sad.
  10. That's really odd, danteh1. Please let us know what you find out. BRC is not the only TWI-speak in that group. Their guest book has things like "WOW - Word over the World - COOOOLLL!!!!" and "The Word of God is the Will of God." Those are red flag things to me and when I get out anything remotely resembling TWI-speak will cause me to run fast in the other direction.
  11. An excellent point by point look at the lesbian teaching from the WAP class. Again, I don't know who put all this together, but if you were the ones who contributed to this - it's excellent and really helped me. Posted for the other innie who has contacted me. ;)--> Segment #11 Here is what I was able to come up with in my research, granted, I am no Hebrew or Greek scholar, but I can read. In Segment #5 the class proceeds to cover "Keys to the Word's Interpretation" In the verse, context, used before ("The Word of God defines its own terms"). It also states "Words must be in harmony with the verse", (great so far?) "Difficult verse must be understood in light of the clear verses. The key is, always double- and triple-check, and remind yourself of the clear verses on the subject" By the time it gets to Segment #11, though, it throws out all sound interpretation principles and gets on this Eve kick. I studied the teaching about Eve and the lesbian encounter: Craig taught: "saw"= to feel and enjoy; to look with pleasure. This Hebrew word is NEVER used of touching physically (feel and enjoy), it refers to the sight only. It does refer to looking with pleasure. Craig taught: "tree"- used of idols; objects of worship; groves. The word used here always refers to trees, wood, timber, firewood, etc. It NEVER refers to an idol or a grove. The word he is talking about according to his definition is asherah. EVERY occurrence of this word (asherah) refers to an object of worship. Craig’s usage violates the "used before" and "The Word of God defines its own terms" principles of research) Craig taught: "food" = dainty foods; delicacies; meat of desire, He refers us to Job 33:20, but that’s talking about literal food. This word by itself never means "dainty". The next word he covers (pleasant) is where the "dainty" part comes from. This word only means food (Job 33:20 refers to choice food or a delicacy) Craig taught: "pleasant"= lustful, covetous; desirous, passionate--illicit passion; unbridled lust; passions of infamy He refers to Romans 1:26, it helps HIS point, but doesn't work with the Word's context. This word "pleasant" is NEVER used concerning sex (check the context) it is an extreme desire and sometimes is not bad ( Prov 10:24 and 11:23) in the Gen 3:6 context , it obviously is not good. I still could not see the "sexual terminology". The way Craig presented it twisted the scriptures to fit what he wanted to teach. Craig taught: "eyes"= ayin (Hebrew)---- a homonym for fountain, referring to sexual climax. A homonym is a term that can have two or more meanings Bullinger states, in Figures of Speech, that the term is given to words which are spelled exactly alike, but have different meanings, (the key is different meanings). When Bullinger gives his example he never talks about a single word used in its context as having different meanings (plural) it only has ONE meaning in the context it is used. The key is it must fit the context, the clear context, not the Craig Martindale twisted context. It appears as though Craig was trying to lead us to believe that the "deeper, hidden meaning" of eyes is not the physical eyes, but some double meaning, the climax thing doesn't even fit the context no matter how hard you squeeze it. Looking further into this I found in Solomon where the "fountain" was a woman’s orgasm closed up or something to that tune. The references are in Song of Solomon 4:12 and 15. Guess what, they use a totally different word for "fountain". "wise"= sakal (Hebrew) to act wisely; to understand. (Hey he got one right!) Oh no!!! Not the Homonym again!!! he states " to lay crosswise or cross over (Gen 48:14); to cross over God's boundary. Trying to be double tongued in the same verse again! Gen 48:14 is referring to Israel switching (crossing) his hands in order to place his blessing (right hand) on Ephraim even though he was younger. to he (Israel) "cross over" God's boundary? Bullinger gives a good explanation "as Jacob (Isreal) was asked to bless Ephraim and Manasseh according to "the will of man" (Joseph) (Gen 48:14) Both cases are instanced in Heb 11:20,21 as acts of "Faith," ie., faith's exercise of gifts contrary to "the will of the flesh," as in the case of Isaac; and contrary to "the will of man" in the case of Jacob. Bullinger also renders this verse under the Figure "personification" as "He made his hands to understand". It was God's will for Israel to switch hands, he knew who to choose, if Joseph had not have positioned Israels hands for him (Israel), he (Israel) would not have had to switch them. I don't believe he crossed over God's boundary, he crossed over mans standard. This word (wise) means "to be prudent, circumspect, to wisely understand" it fits perfect with the context and dosn't take any grammatical gymnastics to do it! "she took" = to be carried away by passion; enticed away (Where did passion come from? Another word to suck us in. Of course the verse is loaded with sexual terminology, he's making up the definitions as he goes!) On pg. 54 and 55 of the syllabus Craig makes statements about "The Fall", "He (the Adversary) will lie as big as he can, as quickly as he can. The bigger the lie, the more quickly people buy it and accept it" and on page 55 "The lies stack up so quick, Eve can't control it." That is how I feel about what he taught concerning this verse, Craig and the following Way Corps teachers went through this in a blaze, I didn't even know what hit me and I sat through it several times. I never questioned it. Another statement Craig made was on pg. 9 he states; "The key to understanding this Scripture is learning to read it clearly, not to read into it, but let it speak to you" (speaking out of both sides of his mouth?) I remember after he was done with his presentation, he said something to the affect of "do you see it? Well too bad, I do!" I think he could see that people might be confused. Here is some more information on the word for "wise" (sakal) it is from the Theological Word book of the Old Testament (TWOT). 05895 lk;f' found in TWOT #2263 2263.0 lk;f' (´sakal) I, wise(ly), understand, prosper. Nine other English words translate the verb: instruct, prudent, et al. (ASV same in most instances; RSV stresses the success, prosper concept for ´sakal). Of the seventy-four times the verb from is used, all but two appear in the Hiphil stem. In many instances ´sakal is synonymous with b?(see µokm?or discussion of synonyms), but there is a fine distinction. While b?indicates "distinguishing between, " ´sakal relates to an intelligent knowledge of the reason. There is the process of thinking through a complex arrangement of thoughts resulting in a wise dealing and use of good practical common sense. Another end result is the emphasis upon being successful. (fits to me) ´sakal also involves one in what he considers, or pays attention to. God provides for the afflicted and needy that they ponder who is their benefactor (Isa 41:20). The righteous one is said to take note of the house of the wicked; this acting wisely is directed toward a thing, the evil abode (Prov 21:12, a difficult passage, taken as "the righteous one"). The leaders of Israel's household gathered together before Ezra in order to give attention to the words of the Law (Neh 8:13). Still another usage of the verb is to have insight or comprehension. The man who would boast of anything should boast that he has insight into, and knows the Lord (Jer 9:23). The Hiphil infinitive ha´k¢l is a substantive meaning "insight, " seen as God's gift to Israel through his rulers and teachers (Jer 3:15). This word also occurs in Prov 1:3 where it is stated that the book was written to give the young man "insight" into wise behavior. As in Jeremiah, wise behavior means conforming one's life to the character of God. Another usage stresses the idea of causing to consider, giving insight, and teaching. David indicates that the Lord made him understand the details of the pattern of temple furniture (used as the direct object relating to a thing, 1Chr 28:19). Gabriel gave Daniel insight or skill (Dan 9:22). There is also the meaning of acting circumspectly or prudently. In a time of evil the prudent know to keep silent (Amos 5:13). God has his way of determining whether a general population is acting wisely so as to seek him (Psa 14:2). A wife who acts prudently is described as from the Lord (Prov 19:14). Likewise, the suffering Servant acted prudently in fulfilling the work assigned to him (Isa 52:13). The verb also may mean to prosper or have success. Saul feared David because the latter was prospering greatly as a result of the Spirit's presence in his life to guide. Indeed, by this successful behavior David in effect ousted Saul from his position of leadership (1Sam 18:14, 15). Jeremiah emphasizes that judgment was pronounced on the shepherd leaders of a favored nation. The leaders were regarded as stupid because they did not seek the Lord. As a result, they would not prosper and their flocks would be scattered (Jer 10:21). The word (sakal) used in Gen 48:14 is in a different form than all the other occurrences, it has the "Peil" stem, Gen 48:14 is the ONLY place this word is used (in that form). The Peil stem usually expresses an intensive or intentional action. What Isreal did was intentional.
  12. Refiner on his initial observations while reading PFAL for the first time:
  13. This belongs on the Gems thread! Very insightful observations, Refiner. I only wish I had noticed those same things when I first took the class.
  14. Okay - This is in response to an e-mail I got. I hope it helps! BTW, they are STILL teaching this kind of crap. Sorry, but I did not save the authors of the individual posts or I would give credit where credit is due. ******************************* Way Rags from 1996 to 1999 (our last year in). I skimmed LCM's articles and the STS Highlights and here's what I've come up with: Jan/Feb 1999 "Walking in the Lord" - LCM (page 8 ) Quote: "Whether a minister of the Lord Jesus Christ, a disciple, or a new believer in the household, we all start out "in Christ," heeding the fundamental principles of the Grace Administration. Then as we mature as faithful disciples, fully instructied in the gift of holy spirit, functioning within the framework of the household of God, we begin enjoying God's abundance and power at the level of "in the Lord", where the Word takes on a greater hue and illumination." May/June 1999 "Making an Impact with the Quality of Life in the Household" - LCM (page 8, last paragraph) Quote: The strength of the household at Thessalonica impressed itself upon the hearts of all those who believed in Macedonia and Achaia. They became the prototype, the model, of a genuine, functioning household, sounding out with the Word of the Lord throughout all the known world (I Thess 1:8 ). In our household fellowships, we strive to build that strength and quality of life. We are a part of the functioning Body, with each individual member committed to move the Word and make a difference. The stronger the household is, the greater the impress, the blow, and together we are making an impact, sounding out with the Word of the Lord. May/June 1999 "Responding to the Word of the Lord" Dottie Moneyhands. Quote: As we respond to the Word of the Lord, our continued growth and maturity are vital for the household to be blessed and prevailing. The fundamental truths of a humble heart, a ready mind, and believing action provide the conditions for our continued growth into deeper levels of maturity required in the fully functioning household. Jan/Feb 1998 - Sunday Service Highlights (page 9) From an STS on 10/12/97 "The Fundamentals of Prevailing: Stand Together" taught by LCM Quote: "Prevailing power only functions in the context of the household standing together. It is not an individual entity or an individual phenomenon. It functions as we have the same mind toward another, as we are like-minded, like-souled, of one accord. That's the only prevailing power I know about." March/April 1996 "The Prevailing Word in the Household" - LCM (page 5) Quote: There are perhaps millions of born-again people in this world. They have spread out, following thousands of separate denominations and sects. Do they agree on truth? Instead of functioning together as a household, they go their separate ways. They belong to the more loosely related group called the "family" of God. On the other hand, the "household" of God are those of us who function together, work together, repair any rifts or friction, build each other up properly and remain." (same article - page 8 ) "We've seen the family and the household distinctions on several levels. Common sense demands it, and semantically the Scriptures clearly distinguish between the family of God and the household. In practical living there are sharp distinctions made between those who adhere to the standards of the word -- the only way God's household can function -- and those who choose other way. Those following other standards spread out; they do not remain in that fixed dwelling; they stop functioning in the healthy Body; they go outside. They remain "family" because they have God's seed in them, but not "household". That's enough to make anyone vomit... sorry kids.... ******************************* Poor LCM. He is now just in the family of God, not the household. He is now one of us. Without Gods protection, non-functioning. What a bunch of bull!! So many commas, so little to say. I feel so sorry for all the billions of people that ever lived that were not fortunate enough to be part of this great household. I don't know why they didn't rate in the history of the human race, but oh well, that's the breaks. ******************************* The Functioning Body = The Functioning Household From the Way of Abundance & Power Advanced Class, page 133, Segment 16: The Functioning Body: The Household of God "The implication of the allegory (of 1 Cor. 12:14) is the diversity of the human body. No wonder it's the perfect figure of speech in describing the functioning Body, the household of God, with each member in particular maturely deliberating and willing, choosing and determining, how he or she operates the gift believingly to produce tangible evidences of the gift of holy spirit." ______________________________________ From the Way of Abundance & Power Advanced Class, page 361, Segment 40: The Functioning Household of God "The adversary is the god of this world. There are things that do happen in life that are negative, that are catastrophic. The key thing is that God promises to protect His own, his believing people within the walls of Zion, the protected walls of the household. God loves all His children, but only His affectionate children are the ones He can protect. If I'm not within the walls of strength, protection, and beauty, then I can not be protected. " But within that, on a day-to-day basis of believeing, the day-by-day faithful walk of these energized ministers is so key. If they break down, then that sorely limits how God can protect His people. He can still do it if he had to, but the way to do it is to have leadership as the watchmen on the walls ready to blow the trumpet of warning to and to prepare people for what might be coming." _________________________________________ To me this sounds like christian cult talk at its finest. Notice the subtle way the phrases Functioning Body and Functioning Household are used in one breath. He obviously spoke of them as one and the same. It was almost as if he should have just come right out and said it.... If you are not in The Way Ministry then you can not be protected. All because of adding the word "functioning" where needed. It was sad to see something simple and easy to understand like the family of God or the Body of Christ slowly twisted into a sort of a spiritual Frankenstien. Twisted Scripture"..... a good name for a heavy metal band but not appropriate for an advanced bible study class. ******************************* I asked our bc point blank, ? Are you saying twi is the only household? I also put that question in a letter to the lc. Both were NEVER answered. They can`t because it isn`t in the Word. I did research on the word household which is only used 2x Eph. 2:19 and Gal.6:10. I don`t think you will find it in written form, twi is the only household. But it was strongly implied. After awhile your mind just made that connection. ******************************* You know, you really do have to admire twi for how good they are at what they do - pervert and twist the Word of God. I couldn't find anything either that is committed to writing stating in plain english that twi is the only functioning body. But then again, I threw all mags and tapes away. LCM spouted it to leadership who then spouted it on down the tree. The inferences were all there. It is pure spin just like any financial obligation being debt is pure spin and the "present truth" as the only true truth is spin. ONLY TWI is the functioning body. From there they infer that if an epistle is written to the faithful it must not be written to anyone outside of twi. That is why they feel they have the right to breakup a marriage etc. That is why they can convince people that anyone who left is possessed and is not to be talked to in any way shape or form. This household thing is a tough one to crack because it is just like the basic premise of "Thy Word is Truth". If you are working with someone who doesn't believe God's Word is the standard, then all the verses in the world won't convince them. If you believe that only people in twi are in God's household, then you are not believing the truth of God's great plan, and you can throw out any verse or person you want. By pure logic it falls apart, but they can't listen to you because you are no longer part of the functioning household. Let's look at how stupid twi's logic of a functioning body or household makes our God look. (after all the adversary loves to make the true God look stupid) "But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him." 1 co 12:18 "Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular. " 1 co 12:27 "And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church, Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all." Eph 1:22&23. OK, so if anyone born again is just family and not in the functioning body or household or what ever you want to call it, then is stands to reason that... Christ is not their head if they are not in the body. That this body that God put together as it pleased him has now been quite effectively destroyed. (If only about 4,000 members are left in it and thousands upon thousands have left it). It probably has no toes left, or maybe the kidneys are all gone. It is a predominantly dead body! So in essence, God lost and the adversary (that took us all out) has won. Surprisingly, if you think through most of twi2s practical application of the mishandling of the Word, this is what you get down to, that the adversary is stronger than God. If you hang around anyone that left, the adversary will take you out. So it must NOT be "greater is he that is in me than he that is in the world" 1 John 4:4. The adversary is bigger and stronger. (unless of course those who left are no longer born again with Christ in us. may be that is next) Weakness always brings down strength. The adversary is what makes people weak, therefore once again the adversary will bring down God's strong people. The info on the internet is from the adversary - if you look at it you will get taken out. Once again, who is stronger? If you leave the adversary will kill you. What? God can't still protect his kids? Once again, the adversary is stronger. If what twi teaches presently seems to contradict something in the Word, they expect people to adhere to the present truth now being taught at HQ. Once again, then God is not the same forever, he changes at the whim of twi. What a weak God! Come on TWI, ...People are not strong enough to destroy what God designed as the Body of Christ! But then again, what do I know ... I was filled in every cell of my body with the spirit from God which is light one day and then as soon as I left twi, it all changed. Light that once dispelled darkness and couldn't exist in the same place (according to twi) has been shoved aside by that strong adversary and I am now possessed. According to twi, darkness now can dispel light. Once again, what God is biggest according to twi?
  15. Another great UncleHairy quote:
  16. UH, that's too funny. :D--> They play those Leaders Meetings up as some great spiritual event and have all of us pray for them the whole time the meetings are going on. Vision and Direction decisions are just a crapshoot and chance for them to visit face to face to discuss how they are going to help TWI shrink even more and how they can live the more abundant life on our money. If half the peopl in TWI knew about what really goes on in these meetings.....well, they would probably just keep drinking the kool-aid anyway. -->
  17. Ted, It's WONDERFUL! I can't wait to learn the words so I can sing along with you. Thank you!
  18. Nonameplease, if you are considering selling those for non-Ebay prices, please Private Topic me.

  20. Sorry, I don't know the answers to your questions. We're just mushrooms kept in the dark out here. I'm not WC so I don't get the inside scoop and I get the feeling the WC don't even get it anymore unless it's necessary and the really secret stuff stays within the confines of the secret circle of those who have reached the pinnacle of spirituality in TWI. 23. Maybe I'm sick but I thought the comments were funny. I didn't see any of them as making fun of or trying to hurt anyone.
  24. I agree with reading "The Subtle Power of Spiritual Abuse" and Steve Hassan's "Releasing the Bonds". There are some other books out there about spiritual abuse and "Finding Your Religion". All aare helpful. It might be good to find someone to talk to, a professional therapist, depending on how much you're dealing with or how difficult it is for you. Despite what LCM taught about that being a "rent a buddy" system and "paying someone to listen to you" it's very helpful and it's not a bad thing to go to one. It's what keeps people on this side of sane many times. Of course, coming here is great therapy in and of itself. :D-->
