  1. There is the crux of the matter and not only from TWI but other churches also. The logic goes ---if you are really hungry for the truth you will find--in this case TWI-- If you push the question such as "But if they have never heard of Jesus Christ in the wilds of Borneo (an example ) how can they go looking for him" The response is "God would show them about Christ if they really wanted to know the truth" The illogic of this staggers the mind All it is intended to do, for any denomination of religion of this mindset, is to absolve the members and leadership for being responsible to preach the gospel and good news of Jesus Christ to their friends, neighbors, and communities Rather like saying a person got salmonella because he bought food at store A, instead of placing the blame on the persons who incorrectly processed the food. It shifts blame from the responsible to the innocent This methodology soothes the conscience of every one who is doing less than they could in spreading the good news of Jesus Christ irrespective of denomination
  2. It has been wonderful... I don't get here as often as I would like but know that each one of you is in my thoughts may you enjoy the rest of the winter and I can hardly wait for spring And thank you for the birthday wishes
  3. Reality is that TWI made us all "hurters" even the lowliest leaflet in the twig hurt someone else. Think of those that were shunned for not ABSing enough, not believing enough, not being meek enough. How many times did we not do a kindness to someone else because leadership told you that they "needed to rely on their own believing"? ? I long ago stopped looking for apologies from others no matter how deep the wrong-- Those who know my story know the "Cost of TWI" in my life. I can ultimately do 2 things I can apologize to those I've wronged and become a better person I can ask God not to hold the wrongs done me against the responsible persons at the judgement. When Jesus Christ was dying on the cross he never said "I forgive" he said "Father forgive". Ultimately it is the judgement of God that matters. To spare those who have wronged you that judgement heals your soul-- the healing of their soul is up to them. We as humans have no way of knowing what goes through others hearts in the dark of night. Is it wrong to feel hurt and pain? -- absolutely not-- the lost years and fallout in my life-- are a constant ache-- but life goes on-- expecting an apology from someone is a useless endeavor- leave them to their own thoughts-- far more painful than anything you can do to them. And step forward in your life

    easy gift

I'm making a throw for my daughter in law for Christmas -- And I got to thinking what a ridiculously easy pattern this is so I thought I'd share. By picking four different weights and textures of yarn it makes the throw look very high end You'll need one circular size 11 knitting needle 470 yds color A a standard 4 ply or light weight home spun 470 yds color B a bulky yarn 240 yds color C a thin yarn, or ribbon, or cord 240 yds color D mohair , fake mohair or fun fur Cast on four stitches- knit each row as follows ( no purl) At the beginning of each of the following rows increase one stitch breaking off and attaching new color as indicated 12 rows color A 16 stitches 12 rows color B 28 stitches 12 rows color C 40 stitches 12 rows color A 52 stitches 12 rows color B 64 stitches 12 rows color D 76 stitches 9 rows color A 85 stitches 9 rows color B 94 stitches 9 rows color C 103 stitches 9 rows color A 112 stitches 9 rows color B 121 stitches 9 rows color D 130 stitches 6 rows color A 136 stitches 6 rows color B 142 stitches 6 rows color C 148 stitches 6 rows color A 154 stitches 6 rows color B 160 stitches 6 rows color D 166 stitches Now knit 4 rows color A with no increases then decrease one stitch each row in reverse order and number ( D,B,A, C, B, A) and (6,9,12) cast off on the last four stitches With remaning yarn make four tassels and attach one to each end and at the edge of the 4 rows of color A in the middle. Weave in loose ends at the end of each color change.
  7. Was definite a few weeks back --but now I am waiting on the rest of my siblings to decide if we are all getting together for Christmas-- something that we weren't going to do but now looks like we might I simply don't have the money to fly outside twice in two months So It's still a maybe, However-- If you send me the correct address I will see that there is some Alaska Reindeer sausage there for all to enjoy.
  8. I shall miss my buddy from Juneau-- Godspeed my friend
  9. Dove, Can I have your permission to copy the body of your post and send it out to some friends and family? Please
  10. The housework/yardwork thing seems to be kind of universal. Beautiful lakeside home every convenience you could think of and us leafy little twiglets were expected to "bless" leadership by cleaning their home while they were gone. It was apparent that other than vacuuming and dusting the public areas ie. the guest bath and meeting areas, these people did next to nothing for themselves.

    disaster plan

All across the web and at LDS.org you can find disaster plans To my way of thinking these are the rock bottom essentials WATER WATER WATER Wal-mart sells these 14 liter plastic jugs figure one per family member refresh every six months also a smaller container and water purification tablets in case you have to use the local water Two changes clothes per family member ( including socks and shoes ) don't forget jackets etc. heavy duty Sleeping bags-- if you are too warm you can unzip or throw back parts-- better warm than cold. Waterproof tarps-- the blue auto tarps are great Wet wipes-- cuts down on water use since they can be used for hand faces and various parts of the anatomy we won't discuss here A saw-- me I prefer a Meat Saw thick tough and will rip through what needs to be ripped through-- and a good sharp hunting knife --whetstone A metal cup, plate and utensils one set per family member A good set of cast iron cookware-- at the least a dutch oven with cover and a large frying pan. They can be set in or on an open fire for cooking, also ladle, tongs and spatula, barbeque utensils work well Duct Tape (lots), medium weight cord, --for making shelter with tarps or other things Hand cranked am/fm radio Candles or led lanterns, flashlights that don't require batteries you shake them to make them work they run $20-30 apiece Matches (lots)-I like the wooden ones, also a flint and steel with magnesium block. magnesium shavings start even sopping wet wood If you live in an area that doesn't have Lots of trees a stock of firewood and kindling figure you may need fires for 2 weeks at least until power is restored or you can be rescued Food Beans and rice -- put with some purified water in your dutch oven on the fire --and a good nutritious meal MREs or freeze dried foods add water Canned goods with several can openers energy bars salt pepper garlic power other seasonings remember if you loose power anything that needs to be refrigerated or frozen will have to be eaten within the first 24 hours. In high heat you have even less time Store all this stuff in plastic bags in plastic totes or if you have a vau-seal system do that-- it is key that this stuff be accessable. Storing in the back corner of the basement will not help if the basement and first floor are full of water. In tornado or hurricane season put it with you wherever you are going to hunker down
  12. I have quoted Rascal here That is a wonderful example-- of course VPW left the key point out--(I am so surprised!!!!) What VPW failed to mention was the fact that these men followed Christ and Continued to follow Christ because DAILY they saw how Christ lived his life, how he treated his fellow man, how his actions were in line with scripture, And the miracles he performed. So when Christ called to Peter--Peter listened because he knew from his OWN FIVE SENSES observations the Christ was the real deal. Compare that with VPW-- anyone ever see VPW perform a miracle? He talked about the miracles in his life-- but where are the witnesses. Most of us saw or heard reliable testimony of how he treated his fellow man And "Rewriting" scripture IS NOT The same as following scripture And to add icing on the cake we were told to ignore our Five senses-- Gee I think think something might have been amiss here And Jeff, A huge Love Hugs and thank you for your service to mine and our country

    ex10

Called ex this am (she lives in The Woodlands just north of Houston) The storm has really wrecked havoc They are all alive and well But they have no power and have been told it will be at east two weeks and maybe even a month before they will have power All the food in the freezer and refrigerator has spoiled There is no gas because the stations can't pump without power Any fuel brought in from outside the storm area is for emergency vehicles only. The large oak by the hottub in the back yard fell on the house but from what they can see the roof is undamaged. the other large tree is listing at a 45 degree angle Even if you have fuel most of the roads are impassable and several of the freeways are flooded. There is really no place to go since stores etc are closed because of the lack of power and damages Keep them in your prayers
  15. In the case of a minor (under 18) who ran away from home.{ For the sake of this point I am assumng that the child was not fleeing a truly abusive family life. Just the normal "I don't like the rules I'm splitting" "no one loves me" of the teenage angst.} That child needs to returned by law enforceement to their parents IF the member of any group is married the spouse has every right to pursue legal means to prevent assents etc being given away to said group in order to insure their, and any children's, financial stability etc. But the individual, if an adult of sound mental abilities, has the right to believe in purple cabbage gods, eat nothing but strained rutabagas, and hand out glossy leaflets while dressed in a pink tutu with orange spangles without interference. That is why this country is this country It goes with out saying that if the individual poses serious physical danger to themselves or others law enforcement needs to be involved. BUt, even in the case of the minor, the right to believe as we choose is fundamental. The fact is that for almost all of us the truth is that we live work, and are surrounded by others whose belief systems we disagree with. As long as those beliefs are maintained at personal level and do not affect others around them those beliefs are sacrosanct
  16. I think that the big question is did they leave because 1) they believed what was taught -- but didn't like the way that the Way was being run in the sense of personalities and leadership behaviors or 2) they left because their brains could no longer ignore the contradiction between what they saw and heard and what they read in scripture with what he Way told them they saw heard and read. If it's 1 they haven't shed Way brain at all just looking for an improved version If 2 then the likelyhood is that they will be more open to serious change in thoughts, actions, and social groups. just my thoughts
  17. THe strangest experience I ever had was right after a CFS class and the limb leaders wife began expounding to us ladies--with the men still in the room --- how her husband excelled in the bedroom-- I slipped away-- I'm not a prude by a long shot-- but that was just too much for me-- I felt like dropping through the floor in embarassment-- Too bad she didn't feel the same

    hi

Permit Clerk 25, I am told, is busy trying to account for the increase in polar bear numbers in heaven and trying to find places where they aren't able to get to the resident seal population And you mean to say you have SUMMER in Juneau???!?!?!?!?!?!? We haven't officially broken 70 here in Anchorage. The Iris didn't bloom until the last week in June and as for fireweed-- I haven't seen any yet---rain and highs (if we are lucky) in the mid sixties. I guess it's all that hot air in the legislature that has created warming in your section of the woods Johny

    8 Years

For what this site has meant to me, for the joy it has brought to my life, for the friends I have found, for the prayers and support that I have received I thank you Paw. And I thank you for shouldering this burden for another year. It is time for all for us to look in our own hearts and start figuring out haw to help Paw with this burden so that if the day comes that he ever has to decide he can't keep on at the current pace, there will be a plan to make things work out for the best for all off us. As for calling me by my screen name....... My guess is that most of us chose names that reflect our innermost heart and that being called by that name brings feelings of happiness to us So don't sweat it and finally For he's a jolly good fellow, for he's a jolly good fellow, for he's a jolly good fellow which nobody can deny. nobody can deny. nobody can deny. FOr he's a jolly good fellow, which nobody can deny.. HEP HEP HOORAY HEP HEP HOORAY HEP HEP HOORAY PAW!!!!!!!!!!!
  22. Psalmie How can sending your child to be schooled by a couple who will deny his special needs in the educational arena possible be good for him? As a person with a teaching degree, albeit an old one, I am appalled that these so-called educators are still living in the dark ages. As a person who has mild dyslexia I am aware of the challenges that particular brain function can cause. Dyslexia is not caused by moods, or anything else that the individual has control over. Isaac's bran simply sees and processes information differently than many other peoples. That is a problem in a society where so much of what we do is tied in some form or another to the written page. Secondly, your son himself doesn't want to be gone from you. While stress doesn't cause dyslexia it certainly acerbates the condition. Being unemployed and strapped financially doesn't mean that you are not qualified to meet your sons needs I strongly urge that you contact http://www.interdys.org/ this is the link to the Foundation dealing with dyslexia. They should be able to help in finding a testing service you can afford or that will be provided free of charge. In addition, while your your public school district may not be where you want your son , it may be worth sending him for a semester so that they can do an evaluation. Most districts provide this service at little or no cost to the parents or a reasonable payment schedule can be worked out. Finally never forget that the most important thing for a child is loving parents and siblings who let the child know that no matter what they are with him 100%. You and your husband and his brother are the only one who can provide this. Maybe down the road, say his junior or senior year sending him to your friends might be feasible. But IMO not now, not when a firm diagnosis hasn't been made ( there are at least six forms of dylexia each adffecting a different area of brain activity), a plan for dealing with whatever problems there are is not yet in place. and the stress of being in high school for the first time makes the familial love and support more critical than ever. What ever you do my thoughts and prayers are with you (((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((Psalmies family)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
  23. God thinks of this mess exactly what he thinks of every mess we as humans get ourselves into--"I gave the the commandments, I sent my son AND THEY STILL JUST DON"T LISTEN" Will the intervention find out there was abuse-- I am sure it will. However, It is a slippery slope when the government can commit perjury in order to obtain a warrant to invade citizen's privacy. If in fact this is what happened, that the "informant" was made out of "whole cloth" by the state of Texas, in order to circumvent the law so a warrant could be obtained: there is corruption from the top of the tree down. In my book, a corrupt law enforcement operation sanctioned by corrupt officials to weed out corruption has about as much chance of bearing good fruit as a chunk of granite has of bringing forth peaches. As too moving kids around--it may be, as you say to hide paternity, It may be that parents who were arrested had their children sent to live elsewhere to avoid them being seized by the state. Lastly in many cultures it is not uncommon for children to be dispersed through out the larger community. Parents who are poor, people who can''t have children etc. bebfit from the practice. While strange to us in this country, South Sea islanders, Indonesians and many other cultures practice this. In most cultures that do practice this, the child knows both the biological and rearing parents and basks in the love of both families. While it is probably more likely that the children at the compound were moved for legal avoidance reasons by leadership, I cannot rule out less sinister reasons
  24. I would say that the women in your area are freer to act than the women at the Texas compound. Just as different Twigs/HFCs in TWI were run differently the same is true of FLDS groups. If these women have outside jobs that means that at least 2-4- hours a week they are exposed to the "real world"-- SO the question is in my mind--after seeing how the other half lives-- what is so abhorrent that they would rather stay where they are. Clearly they have brains and know how to use them if they can hold jobs or run small businesses. Again it comes to freedom of choice. Adults should be allowed to stay FLDSS if they want it is only the children forced into sexual liaisons as children or otherwise abused who should be of concern to the government. Although I would like to see the rules on welfare tightened. But that is true across the board as far as I am concerned.
  25. How are these women supported-- by your and my welfare tax dollar. Yeah, these are "celestial marriages" FLDS perform them in their temple and while they are recognized by the FLDS as marriages they are not marriages in the eyes of the laws of this country. In effect, according to the law, each man involved in this bastardization of Joseph Smiths teachings has a wife and several girlfriends. Because of this, they cannot be charged with Bigamy since they aren't married in the legal sense. No different than the cheating spouse who has wife and kiddies and girlfriends on the side also with children. Thus the secondary wives are single mothers and eligible for welfare and many avail themselves of it around the country. How many of the women living in the Texas compound did so I don't know. It is possible that they grew enough food etc that they were pretty self sufficient--but I would be surprised if there were no "welfare dollars" coming in.
