  2. In short, despite what was thrown at me later by the deprogrammers, I am quite sure that the Trinity issue was the reason my deprogramming got started.
  3. The independent "anti=cult" groups, including the deprogrammers in my experience, would always insist that a group was a cult not because of its beliefs, but because of its practices (i.e. the Lifton "bible" of mind control). However, in practice, churches and church groups were, and I guess still are, big in the Trinity issue.
  4. I knew it was the day...happy birthday! I posted on that other list first, then came here. Have a good one!.
  5. I have seen some of those "streling character" people picked apart too. Sometimes it seems amazing what you can find with some simple web searches...not to mention some indirect personal experience. The point is, as for example I was trying to say on the Billy Graham thread, they (BG in this case), gain respect for what they speak and preach and teach about God, even if I do not agree with everything they do or understand.

    11th Corps

Dunno whether this forum or friend tracker is better. I vaguely remember someone telling me a former WOW roomie of mine...John White...going into the corps and I think it was the 11th...but my memory is uncertain on this. Anyone here know that name?
  7. Rafael wrote... "It didn't snow. The weather reports from that day in that region prove it did not snow that day." What weather reports? I have been staying out of this for some reasons, but I can't help being curious about that statement. Just from a weather reporting point of view, a snow shower such as that in question would be unlikely to show up (or proof that it didn't happen) in any old weather reports, unless the point in question is precisely at an observing and reporting point for weather data. General conditions...the high and low temperature for that given day and whether or not there was precipitation...at even a very a nearby point...just will not tell you either way. I experienced a very brief and local but intense snow shower one day back in 1979 when I was running near HQ. One minute it was not snowing, the next minute the snow was almost blinding, and fell hard enough to whiten the ground; five minutes later it was gone. Just a couple miles away, it evidently did not snow at all. I have actually seen that kind of thing a number of times; most noteably in the mountains of central PA, but here it was happening in fairly flat country. The same idea of extreme local weather variations happens in warm weather. I sometimes have a fun time explaining to insurance people, or their clients, that I cannot tell them for sure that there was or was not a storm causing damaging winds at their precise location, because we had no reports either way at the particular time and date they are interested in. (It is easy to be out in the boonies around where I live and work). Sometimes of course I can tell them for sure there was nothing around...of course these calls are not for weather from sixty years ago, either. Of course, if there were evidence that the temperature was close to, say eighty degrees at the time in question, then the occurrence of a snow shower at that time might be deemed implausible...just like the creation of a dry area across the red Sea by a strong east wind.
  8. Anyway, that proves you could actually LAUGH while in the corps...at least in the "70s.
  9. THE cannot be translated into Russian, I believe. The closest I know of is "THIS" or "THAT".
  10. I also know nnootthhhiiinnngggg.... But I follow this with some interest, because not only did I know them well while i was in, but Brad was one of the couple innies I have run into personally since I was yanked out.

    8th Corps

OK, are we just floating nowhere again? Hawk, maybe I should give up...where are the others? OC????
  12. I think this thread started with an honest question, as opposed to many questions in which the questioner is really seeking to supply his or her own answer. I think Cortright is a good site, but I think Chatty Kathy said it best. With any ex-Way site, or any kind of site which makes available e-contact with others, there is so much that the administrator can do, as in most cases you will probably not really know very well the people with whom you come in contact. What Cathy said... "In fact they are careful and ask you to be the same as far as using info acquired there." is the best they can do. Now, if a site administrator knows that someone has been deceitful and hurting, and does nothing about it, then is the time to use even more than the usual caution...or stay away. I think Cortright, as far as I also know, is as trustworthy as it can be made.
  13. That was up to then, of course when he told you that.
  14. So that's why my PFAL class stood out.
  15. maybe because the 7th was big...or maybe it refers to the current girth of the 7th corps...
  16. That name tag really sticks out, doesn't it? I guess you can't bear to part with your relic, John. They kept them that way through the 8th corps, then after that they reversed colors. Maybe they figured the ninth were opposites?

    10th Corps

Wasnt the tenth pretty big as far as thos in the first residence year? I remember the sixth was over 300, the 7th even bigger, then we were down at 250 or so I think, then the ninth and tenth were back up there again, I heard...from then on out I dont know. Of course it was all different from the cozy days before the 6th corps and Emporia.
  18. Just because I made it a day late, you get to have another birthday today. You may go backwards this time if you like.
  19. No, I don't, but I remember Brian. Trouble is, my memory must be suffering from night blues. Was it the corps or WOW I remember him from...I think it was the corps (8th) instead of my Philly WOW year, both also many moons ago. Will my memory wake up? Brian and Mary Beth I think.

    10th Corps

Okay, so I wasn't one of them that had the privilege. I never made it to Emporia in my last residence year before my exit. Did I miss anything by not knowing the 10th???
  21. I remember Gary and Anne...though I think Anne's stint at Emporia was early in the year. I didnt even realize they "got together".
  22. I was amply restrained by implication, as it were...enough guards with obvious physical capability in a confined area to make it plain that an escape attempt would be futile. Things with family were actually going well until the "mind control" people reached them, during my time in the corps when we had limited contact. Frankly, it was not the Way that destroyed the family connections. For those of you who believe that admit that mind control was used in TWI but admit that it was not absolute; that mind control comes in "degrees", well, it was (and still is to some extent in general) presented to them as an absolute thing...Lifton's Korean War POW study applied almost literally...in my case. They became convinced by others that, basically, I was not really me as long as I was in the Way. I was presented with the choice of leaving the Way and swallowing what was being done to me in that deprogramming...or staying in and basically losing my family, since they were taught that they could not believe that I was really me while I was in.
