but I worked at the church in the song a few days ago so I had to give it a listen....
In a musty old hall in Detroit they prayed,
in the Maritime Sailors' Cathedral
The church bell chimed 'til it rang twenty-nine times
for each man on the Edmund Fitzgerald
The Maritime Sailors Cathedral is actually Mariners Church. Its quite a place, If you are ever in Detroit its worth a visit (plus you'll get to see my window ).
The bell in the song has a very long and storied history of several hundred years and was consecrated to only ring on the death of a mariner. Thankfully it did not ring while I was there.
TRUE STORY--my parents have always claimed that my very first words were "putty-putty" from some song called Cement Mixer...Thats all I ever knew -I never explored it or knew anything of it until just now --which is agreat way to start my day- :)
They probably would have preferred I say "mama"- but its good to know that I came in singin with Slim

Too funny! The Cement Mixer and Yip Roc were as close as he ever came to "Pop 40" kinda hits, but he sure seemed to enjoy his work.
Roger Waters said he would never do "The Wall " in Concert again till the Berlin Wall came down . The year after he gave this concert which was one he|| of a concert. This is the ending song.

The tune is SALLY GOODIN. Had the privilege of sitting under banjo picker Alan Munde's tutelage once many years ago.
Here he is, fooling around with a "pick-up band" at some place in Texas.
