Dear Wafer not....I am timidly raising my hand as one of those whom have inadvertantly dented someones car....
it is not always a case of inconsideration however....sometimes it is (as in my case) a situation where an exhuberant overexcited child oppened their door from the inside and it got away from them...smacking the car next to us to my horror.
Fortunatly the driver was still there while I berated my children and impressed upon them the damage that they had caused, and what the probable consequences of their actions were (ie a BIG bill for their father for the cost of repainting the car) ...my children in tears apologising profusely to the owner of the car........as annoyed as the other driver was...she forgave them...i asked how to make restitution.....this sweet heart of a woman at first dismissed it (though I could tell that it really had bothered her)....but in a stroke of genius...offered to let the children pay for her pizza (we were both waiting for our orders)
The kids had to pool all of their cash and even borrow some from mom....(to be later worked off at home).
I was so thankfull that as annoyed as this woman was...(and rightly so), that she handled it just right....allowing my kids to learn a very valuable lesson on accountability and restitution, and though it didn`t pay for the damage to her car....the money that the children had to give was a large amount for them....they felt much better as well.
I am so very sorry that your nice car has been damaged..... it is a shame that folks are so careless.... and not honest enough to leave a note and number,
Part of the problem is the paper-thin sheetmetal that the carmakers use. It's not like the old days where there was a little bit of forgiveness built in. Caulk it up to saving weight for fuel economy.
I know it wizzes you off when someone abuses your baby. It does me too. Maybe you could fix it on the cheap by getting one of those suction thingies and pull the dent out and use the matching touch up paint.
I had bought a brand-new 2005 Toyota Corolla in July. I was real careful about where I parked it (parked way out in a store's parking lot, tried to park with one side next to an inanimate object, etc.), washed and polished it every second day - you know the drill. I so dreaded getting the first scratch on it, 'cause that's always the one that hurts the most.
A month after I got it, someone slams into the back of my car while I'm at a stop light. Did $3500 worth of damage.
The day I got it back from the body shop, somebody in a mass-transit parking lot ('cause I'm trying to save on gas) puts a nice scrape on the front bumper.
I'm not happy when that happens either. It distresses me too. I've seen a few dings from doors, but I think most of them are from the wagons that people just leave where ever until the wind picks them up and they charge off headed for my car.

ya just gotta except that cars dent and live with it . i think it is more economical to trade or sell the car with the dents rather than go io your insurer

Yes, I expect some day that my car won't be totally perfect, and it will have some dents in it. However, I didn't expect that it would happen before I even made my first car payment. That first dent I'm almost sure is from someone bumping in to me. It's not a dent which can be pulled out because it is a crease. Same for the rear wheel area.
Rascal, I only wished there were more honest people like you. You are doing well by teaching your children respect for others' property.
Kevlar, I'm so sorry that all of that happened to a brand new car. That is a darn shame, but I guess it is the world and life in which we live right now. There are disappointments, and I guess things could be a lot worse in my life. But I've had a crappy car for years trying to stay out of debt while in twi, and now this happens. I'm sure innies would laugh saying I was stupid for going in to debt. I just couldn't stand driving a 1995 Ford Escort anymore. I wanted something better, and I could afford the car payment. I've been dreaming of having a 4 door Honda Accord for years. I wasn't hasty about buying either. I waiting until I found one I really liked. God forbid if I ever get something expensive....like a Porshe or Jaguar.
It sucks. I just wish there were better ways to take care of it without emptying your pocketbook or having your insurance increase......sigh.
I had an ugly dent in my baby (94 mercury cougar, teal) put there by a big dog chasing a cat. The cat jumped on top of the car. The stupid dog ran headlong into the fender. The car was parked next to the curb of a residential neighborhood. Yes I was extremely pi**ed. Later, I talked to my inlaws (who have lots of money) about fixing it. Their answer was this, "if it doesn't drive funny or get worse fuel economy, don't bother fixing it. If I fixed every little ding, dent, or crack as they happened, well guess what, I would'nt have lots of money. Save your money for something really important." So I spent $1.49 at a local auto parts store and purchased a sticker. It was in the shape of a large bandaid with the word "Ouch!" on it. Put the sticker on the dent. It didn't fix the dent, but the laughs I got for it helped me feel a little better. I traded that car off for a convertible a few years later.
I paid cash for a beautiful, bright, white 2002 Mazda Protege. Only 26K miles and power everything (my first car with power ANYTHING!), remote entry, etc. Not six months after I got it some dude t-boned me at an intersection and did extreme damage to my nearly-new car. I was so ....ed.
I don't care that it was his fault. I don't care that his insurance paid for every penny and every day of my rental car. My car is now damaged goods. If I sell it I have to tell them it was in a crash and 1/2 the car was rebuilt. The frame was bent and had to be straightened out....all kinds of stuff..... THAT ....es me off more than anything else.
My ex is a police officer so between that and another incident that happened recently, he's probably laughing all the way to fellowship and telling them how horrible my life is now that I "turned my back on God" :blink: I can just hear them quoting that scripture about the devil spirit that leaves and then comes back with seven more friends.I HATE giving them fuel for their manipulative - don't leave the household fear-based teachings.
Belle, how many people in a twi fellowship have the prosperity in their lives to BUY a car such as your own to wreck in the first place?
I`d say that you having survived the accident was plenty of proof that God IS still protecting you :-)
THAT is how I would relate things to ex....*Whew honey......it`s a good thing that twi was WRONG about the adversary being able to take me out ...or I`d a been a goner* :lol:
I sure wish I could think that way, but I can't right now. I wanted to enjoy my nice car for awhile before someone else messed it up.
I guess if they were honest about it and left me a note, I wouldn't feel so bad about it. I sure wouldn't dent someone's car and not leave them a note.

I have a2003 s-10 red,when the first dent I saw was in the winter,I was washing the salt off(here inthe north
your car will literaly turn white due to the salt they put on the roads) my car when I saw it ,the first dent,I
wnt ballastic.Oh well i got it fixed.It too pesses me off that people are not honest.

Use it. Abuse it.
Ride it hard and put it away wet.
So far on my 2003 pickup.
Deer in windshield. Insurance fixed
2001 Chevy cavaler. Her insuranced fixed.
Telephone pole. I fixed.
Little dents and scraps don't count
