Later as he recalls the episodes , He would say '' who was I gonna tell?". So he didn't. That is what spiritual abuse does. Keeps you from standing up for what is right because the cost is high, usually by your own finger pointing.

Twinky- He WAS a very giving man in spite of it all. Just thought I'd share some past wacky experiences and disproved Way teaching doctrines.

"You can't outgive God" This was a phrase repeated in PFAL? and other teachings, mostly in refrence to tithing. But, it was also meant to say: "God's blessing will never run out when you just give...give to the ministry, give to the fellowship, give to the ministry.... Anyway, my family member who was in the earlier Corps days, decided to PROVE this statement IN REAL TANGIBLE WAYS. So, him and his buddy who fixed cars for HQ , decided that they were going to start GIVING FREE auto repair service to ''the Household" during a period of about 3 months. They gave their time, expertise and supplies (money) repeadedly to anyone who needed their car fixed. Needless to say, they couldn't pay their bills anymore, and not once did "God" bless them back with money falling out of the sky or free tools or food on the table. They were very disappointed. The confusion that set in only made them look inward as if something was wrong with their believing along with it. But, at least for my relative, he finally decided that the phrase was a bunch of hooey, because he knew that they were wholeheartidly sincere in their quest to 'outgive God'. He just couldn't figure out when it applies, since at the same time a ''Laborer is worthy of hire".

NERO! I feel your pain. My mum is still in TWI. The bottom line is your mom NEVER LEFT. She just didn't like the conditions before. In essense, she never took off the Way colored glasses. I am surprised she got through any other church service ( I guess it was more aligned with way beliefs other than mainstream religions). She is comfortable. She wants COMMUNITY. This is what she knows. Since she isn't an independant thinker, she doesn't question the doctrine much, because it probably worked for her. It's a very ego-centric doctrine. YOU are in control. In most religions, there is a certain 'uncertainty' there, that we ARE NOT in control. Many people don't like that feeling. She wants back the comfort of being with those who believe like her and and the control it gave her...and as long as there is no ''yelling/abuse/lawsuit/" going on, then, she'll be there. Take heart. Just love her as your mother, and be clear that you don't believe the doctrine because it's full of holes. Every time you bring up a ''people'' issue it can be used against you. We are all sinners. Every religion has crazy's. Every religion has problems. Every religion has doctrinal issues. You can't change her mind, but you can change you and your reaction to her choices. Peace, bliss

If it wasn't for the ''regulars'' posting here at GSC, oh about 9 years ago now.. (holy crap!!!!!) Um, I might still be a slave to the bondage of TWI abusive system of religion. They helped me take off my ''green colored glasses''. Case in point: I STILL have relatives in TWI. In which one told me recently of past ATROCITY that happened to her....and her only response was to ignore it and move on. It doesn't matter how much I say about the abuses and how wrong it is, she is under dilusion. Comfortable. Not ready to leave the confines of her religion. Not wanting to upset the apple cart. BUT, if and when she is ready, I hope she can come here to find answers. She also said "Rosalie is an old lady, what harm can she do?" oh my. Go to the doctrinal section if you want to 'research' the Trinity respectfully on here Zbrick, otherwise, let those who are here, help those searching for a WAY out. Peace

I follow a blog that recently received a letter from a Mars Hill church member and the abuse he's receiving. Very similar to the control and abuse of power that leadership had over it's Way followers. This poor guy came to THEM with his sin, seeking restoration and forgiveness. Really it's just training grounds for him to do this. See, they have had NO FIELD TRAINING in the real world! None. Always on staff at a location. Never ran a fellowship in the devilish, evil world, or held a REAL worldly job.......So, being that he plans on taking over the Way at some point, it would make sense that he get some life training. As far as how good that life training is going, I have no idea.
