  1. Have you ever wondered how deaf people speak in tongues? No, I'm not trying to be funny. But, stop and think about key #3 to walking in the spirit. How does that one work for deaf people?
  2. Hey there, Gen-2 Someplace on GSC there is a line by line comparison of the definitions. I think it was BG Leonard who authored these definitions. Not sure on that. Anyhow----Keys To Walking In The Spirit That's a whole subject of controversy all by its lonesome. For example: 3. Speaking in tongues daily is prerequisite to revelation. II Corinthians 4:16. It's my opinion that what we called "speaking in tongues" in The Way was really what is commonly referred to as "glossolalia". I don't know how much you know about glossolalia. There have been scientific studies that show that when a person is engaging in "speaking in tongues", there are actual changes that take place in the brain. The person's capacity to use critical thinking skills and reasoning becomes compromised. This was demonstrated with physical imaging of brain waves. In and of itself, this is not necessarily a bad thing. (Think in terms of meditation and relaxation techniques.) But, in the hands of someone like a controlling cult leader, the dangers are very real. So, here is this cult guru, VPW, insisting that, in order to reach a point of personal, spiritual connection with God, we would have to suspend our ability to question what was going on in The Way and lull ourselves into a state of submissive compliance. 11. Do not be deceived by the five senses. (string of scripture references) Here again, you are being told to NOT trust common sense and intuition. If you put this together with Wierwille's so-called "law of believing" (magical thinking) and the idea of never acknowledging a "negative", etc, you could be setting yourself up for outside control and potentially tragic results. 12. Do not argue with God (another string of scripture references) There was always an underlying understanding in The Way that when the "leader" in charge spoke, it was quite possible they were speaking by revelation, which is the same thing as having God speak to you. Here is an actual phrase that was often repeated in The Way, so much so that it became a virtual tenet. "A suggestion from a leader is tantamount to a commandment." Therefore, blind obedience to the leadership is an absolute requirement for anyone desiring to "walk in the spirit". 13. Revelation once given may change. (God changes the revelation after the circunstances change.)----more scripture references. So, not only do you need to practice self delusion, you have to blindly do as you are told and they can change the rules whenever it pleases them. Dangerous stuff!
  3. Sweet! I just picked up another horn on ebay. (Bb Buescher cornet) The ad said it was a mid 1950's model, which was plenty cool with me. When I got it and checked out the serial number, it turned out it's really a 1919! It has beautiful tone.

    Red

You know how you hear a song and can't get it out of your head? I'm posting THIS in hopes that it will have that effect---- And consequently get people to think about wearing red.
  5. The definitions for "the other six manifestations", as Wierwille presented them in his Advanced Class, were plagiarized almost word for word from someone he never bothered to credit.
  6. I heard it, too, Bolski. I'm just not sure exactly where and when. It was definitely in TWI, though. Is it on one of those albums like All Aboard or something? I may have heard Howie Y. tell it, as well, at a FLO night. Howie Y. was quite good at presenting that sort of thing.
  7. Yes, that pretty much sums up the essence of the quote,
  8. Remember how Wierwille got up in arms about people wanting to run bake sales, car washes, etc., to fund local activities? "Wouldn't reflect well on God's ability to supply abundance." (cough) I suppose he's rolling over in his grave with this new trend of moonlighters.
  9. Very cool. Alto, Tenor, Baritone----???
  10. Dearest Gen-2 You must never, ever allow yourself to believe you are "damaged from the factory",. We are what we are. Some of us have more fingers and toes than others. Some of us have less. Some can charm a nightingale with their song while others can peel paint. Some have one eye that just sits there taking up space, while others pop on the 3-d glasses and take great delight in movies like Avatar. But, spiritually? Nope. I don't buy it. If you are a God believing type of person, it might interest you to know that "God is no respecter of persons."

    Hi

I forgot to say that I'm very sorry to hear you lost both your parents so early in your life. First cup of coffee is on me. (not literally :P )
  12. Oh, I did that very early in my involvement. It got me into plenty of hot water. Before I "got in the word", my basic train of thought was that God talks to you in a non-verbal fashion. Talks to you in ways that are tailored to your personal makeup. (ie: being present at the birth of a baby, witnessing the vast beauty of nature, etc. Like when you lock eyes with someone very close to you and no words are needed to understand each other) Hey! Didn't somebody write a song like that? I think it was called or somethin'. Anyhow, fast forward to my first twig, circa 1972. "WHAT!!!! Oh no, that simply can't be! Ya see, ya gotta put God in a little box where you can look at Him real up-close like with a spurchal magnifying glass. Gotta learn whole bunches of Greek and Aramaic and all kinds of other languages and speak in tongues of angels (or men from fur away places) 'til the cows all come home to roost if you ever want to have any hope at all that God will 'speak' to you". Uhmmmmmmm.....OK.Then, about 1979 or so, when the "paid according to needs" stuff started to surface at the local level, my first wife and I had a major knock-down, drag out confrontation with each other about the "accuracy" of this crap. (If I recall correctly, my position was that it was a wagon load of soil enrichment material.) Did I mention we got divorced not too awful long after that?
  13. You're kiddin', right? "All prophesy of the scripture is God breathed" How do we know that's true? Well, it says so in the scriptures and because "All prophesy of the scripture is God breathed", it must be true. Kinda reminds me of that song by Nick Lowe (a man)-----
  14. A thousand years from now----- "He sacrificed his very own eye for his keeeds. And, when that wasn't enough, he turned his face to the wall and, with a broken heart and shattered liver, was heard to say, 'I wish I was a man. I know I could have been.'"
  15. Well, it's one thing to say you accept something "on faith". I'm down with that. We all do that with one thing or another in our lives. But, using circular logic to "explain away" something that has been taken "on faith" is a horse of a completely different color.
  16. I think it was on closing night of Rock of Ages. 1973. Wierwille announced during the main teaching there would be a healing service for all who needed healing in front of the main stage. He instructed all who sought healing to come forth. Hundreds came up to the stage. He told all Advanced Class grads in the audience to come forth and pick out a healing partner so they could "minister" to them. Then, since the AC grads were outnumbered, he told them to keep finding healing partners until everyone was ministered to. I did not go down to the stage. It didn't seem right. If God wanted me to minister healing, why didn't He tell me Himself? Later, I started to question my decision. Do you have any idea what it's like to carry the guilt of thinking you denied someone healing? Were there any genuine miracles or healing? Not that I saw. And I was an observer, on the outside looking in.
  17. "All scripture is God breathed and----- holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Ghost." How do you know? It says so in "The Word". Who made the statement? Paul. How do you know he was right? It says so in "The Word"
  18. soul searcher Have you ever read Receiving the Holy Spirit Today? There is quite a lot in there that will explain what the average "Way Believer" regards to be accurate on this matter. I'm not saying I agree with it. What I'm saying is that it gives you some sort of starting point in trying to discuss this with Wayfers.
  19. I heard Wierwille teach on this subject. I have always thought that this particular version I'm about to share was in CF&S, but no one seems to remember it being there. So, I'm at a loss as to where and when he taught it. Anyway, I think his explanation was all a bunch of *%*&$#@*, so, I am simply repeating this for informational purposes. Wierwille taught that Eve either masturbated Adam or performed oral sex on him. (I don't recall which.) Then, claimed Wierwille, Eve consumed the "byproduct" (and the following was supposed to be the "sin" part.) and convinced Adam to do the same. (Consume it, that is) Yeah, I know. That's some really bizarre stuff to be coming from a guy who was supposed to be a minister. Like I said, I think it's a bunch of nonsense "and then some", but, I wanted to put it out there as a matter of reference so people could see what kind of twisted mind drove someone we all thought was some kind of great Man of God.
  20. It was 51 years ago today.
  21. I don't miss the guilt I used to have for "tripping out" on the "one true household". That-----and wheat berries!
