    Texas BBQ 2007

Ha, George, thanks for the tip! I'll save the dryer lint for the campfire at the BBQ. By way, how was your pig roast? We ended up spending yesterday at A&M painting daughter's bedroom maroon and purple. (I know, I know, she chose the paint colors.)
  2. Well, I just as my dearly beloved of 25 years this question, and his reply......"Of course." He says, "People are flawed, we all have issues to work through over the years, but the bottom line is, I would still rather be with you than anyone else on the planet." Guess that answers it for me.

    Texas BBQ 2007

Well, as BBQ time draws near, I feel the urge to put a disclaimer, warning all attendees: Please forgive me while I become totally self-indulgent here: I'm a busy Mom, with the obsessive/compulsive gene. As much as I wish I could be June Cleaver, that I ain't. I apologize right here, right now for that. When Ya'll come here, pleeze be aware that the top of my fridge hasn't been dusted since 2004, the year we had my oldest's graduation party. I think the last time I cleaned my windows, was um.....maybe like in 2005 when we had a family reunion? I have a large dog, who sheds and leaves tumbleweeds of dog hair everywhere, and our cat sheds as well. I can't seem to keep up with vacuuming his laying spots. I did clean out my fridge, I think it was maybe sometime during the summer, can't remember. The house cleaner cleans the bathrooms, no worries there. I can't remember the last time I dusted the living room, but nobody sits in there anyway. I guess my disclaimer is, pleeze don't come here expecting Way Perfection. It doesn't exist. But we will have lotza good food, good company, and fun times. Come one, come all, and bring your allergy meds if cat hair and dust are a problem. :B) Ah, I feel much more better now.

    Life at College

All ya'll are so sweet, and put my nervous Mom heart at ease!! Thanks for lettin me brag, be exited, be anxious, and encouraged by the kind words, all at the same time. What an awesome thing it is, to be young, (like my precious children) and have a lifetime ahead, of living a "life's dream." Thanks for sharing in my excitement. Life is so excellent.

    Life at College

My oldest daughter is a junior at TX A&M, and is majoring in Agricultural Leadership and Development with an emphasis in International Studies. Today was a very memorable one for her, probably one of the highlights of her 19 year old life. Dr. Norman Borlaug was at A&M for a conference, (the Norman Borlaug Institute for International Agriculture is at A&M) and she was chosen to accompany Dr. Borlaug, to his meetings and the press events for the day. She was posed with Dr. Borlaug for all the pictures, and actually got to help set up the display of all his medals, notably the Noble Peace Prize and his Congressional Gold Medal. She was thrilled and couldn't believe how spry he is for a man in his 90's. She also got the news that she has qualified for one of the internships offered by the Institute. She still has to apply and compete to get the internship. Of course, I'm thrilled! But I'm also a bit scared. If she does qualify for an intership, she will spend three months in either Rowanda or Uganda. As a mom, I can help but be a bit apprehensive about her traveling to the other side of creation by herself, and a third world country no less. We'll see what happens. I'm thrilled with her chosen profession and course of study, yet concerned at where it could take her. Wow, maybe I should go post in the prayer forum. Anyway, I just had to share the excitement at our house. :)
  10. Happiest of days to you Sudo! Surely dinner at the Rendezvous is in order.
  11. Hope it was a memorable one, Billy!

    Texas BBQ 2007

Oak, I would love to meet you and your beloved if you feel inspired to take a road trip! This year will be especially fun, as we will have so new faces, yet old friends here. Mr. and I are excited about having everyone, and hopefully the weather will cooperate, and all guests from the frozen northern regions can enjoy warmer temperatures. And of course, the BBQ will be delicious, as will the Shiner Bock. Tonto has been dubbed wine goddess, for those who prefer a more genteel beverage. And George, I need some new (blond) jokes. :B) Someone suggested we have a web cam, but that's probably Paw or Tom Strange's department, and frankly, that thought scares me. But at the very least, we can post pics. Volunteers? And Twinky, if you can come, you will get the prize for traveling the furthest to be here. :)
  13. Dove, my friend, I'm drinking a Coke in your honor today. :) Hope it's a fantastic birthday for you!

    Texas

Hey Tommy. It's almost BBQ time again. Hope it cools off by then.
  15. So many posts, so little time. :B) Being one who likes to cut to the chase.....please forgive me for my concision. Maybe just maybe, God knows how we are, and how we humans like to slice and dice and put conditions on things that God has made unconditional. Maybe that's why we need Jesus. I don't know for sure, just guessing here. <_< But it seems to me that Jesus has given us many examples, and words of wisdom, on the topic at hand. Maybe it's just up to us as individuals, who follow his lead, to work it out for our own selves? Maybe, he thinks that much of us. Discussion on the topic is very good. Maybe that's what was intended in the first place. Jesus gives us the general parameters, and we strive to be as forgiving as he was/is? And we just work it out our own way with him? and others who are striving for the same goal? being more like him?
  16. Thanks, Hope. I know a few 6th here in the Houston area. I'm definitely forwarding the news.
  17. Waysider, 4 years of Catholic high school Latin has got to be good for something. Bon devoirs. (I took French, too.)
  18. Ya know, consider me a cynic, but my assumption when posting here is, that we are all adults and can speak for our own selves. This analysis of what everybody is saying just makes me nuts. It ain't that hard for literate Americans, (the most well-educated populace in the world) to read and evaluate what someone says. As a literate American, I resent the continual "translations" that some feel compelled to explicate.
  19. Well, Don't Worry, my short answer to your questions is, a long answer. When I choose to forgive someone, I do it for my health and personal peace. It matters not to me, whether they choose to remain an ignorant numb butt. That's their personal choice. So be it. For my own sake, I purge my mind of the baggage that comes along with holding that grudge, when I by my own choice, recognize the evil perpetrated against moi, get real mad about it, grieve, cuss, throw things, whatever is needed for my release, and then let go of it. This technique works especially well, when I need to forgive someone who is deceased. Once I've sufficiently purged, with a little help from Mom, friends, relatives, wandering pedestrians, Jesus, Fellow Greasespotters, whoever..........then I can get on with the business of living my life, baggage free. My outlook is simplistic, I know. But I tend to be on the selfish side, and really hate prolonging the torment. ;) I have too much life ahead of me, to stay stuck in past crud. After all, I'm still trying to find my bliss. PS disclaimer: This is my own personal technique, perfected over the years. I would never presume to demand that anyone else adopt my strategy. As some as so prone to do here. I don't believe in black/white "principles" anymore. Just getting up in the morning being excited about my day in the life, is enuff for me.
  20. You won't get an argument from me, Lifted. I still think Balaam is the perfect bible character to compare VPW to. Over the centuries, people have debated whether or not Balaam was a "true prophet". Whether he was or wasn't, his SIN and greedy, lustful character, that craved all the things that come with money, are written for all time. Not too great a legacy. It's probably gonna stink to be him, at some point in the future.
  21. Exactly, Lifted. By the way, it's so nice to see you here again.
  22. Lifted, of course it's clear that God spoke to Balaam. And?
  23. Happiest of days to our resident who leaves fuzzies everywhere. Hope your celebration is full of warm fuzzies as well.
  24. Sorry for the de-rail, Cindy! Dot, just google his bio. I remembered reading an article about him once that said he was born in NY, and moved at the age of 12? or so.
