  1. Sushi, that interview segment is funny. Thank you for the tips! Now, I know what I've been doing wrong!!!! Actually, I'd be happy to GET an interview in my field. Zspot thanks for the tips, also--all good ones that I'll keep in mind.
  2. cheranne, sorry to hear that, but glad you found something you enjoy instead. Oakspear, thanks. So, networking, skills that transfer, and being at the right place at the right time played into your career move. Each component was imporant, I suppose.
  3. Thanks for the info, Oeno and WateredGarden. Oeno, as usual, your exceptional writing skills are perfect. I may just print out your post and send to him. Watered Garden, yes, but he would never report a friend. Very loyal.
  4. Yes, waysider. I thought that was strange, too. Can't help but wonder what kind of "therapist" he is. Thanks for the link, also. I found a couple of good books on Amazon--Andrew Morton's looks good because he interviewed ex-Scientologists as part of the research for his book. There is another one with "Blue Sky" in the tile that looks good. One of the reviewers talks about how much real estate the S. own in Hollywood and said that Amazon had to pull this book for a long time due to their threats, so it looks promising.
  5. Hey everyone. We have a dear friend who has been divorced for over a year, is lonely, and looking for ways to make new friends. Enter dear friend's therapist, masquerading as "not just a therapist, but consider you a friend" wolf who has told him Scientology is not a cult, imagine that, and has invited him to meeting. Unethical, yes, to say the least. Good part, dear friend open to book suggestions from me about Scientology telling the other side from ex-Scientologists following telling him my story for the first time about my involvement with the way. I'm going to go to Amazon next to search for books. Just wondered if anyone has read a great book telling about their "religion" already and could recommend it. Yes, I know about the cult info/recovery books mentioned on this site and have read some of those. While they are all very informative, I'm looking more for information specifically about Scientology. Anyone have any resources you personally recommend? THANKS!
  6. omg! That was great! Does anyone have a video like that for Scientology? One of our dearest friends has been witnessed to by a Scientologist who has invited him to a meeting and given him a book. YEWWWWWWWWWWWWWW.

    A Poem

geisha, I LOVE your first verse. How profound. Keep writing, girl!
  8. Cool Chef and Oakspear, Thanks so much for the positive feedback. How did you get into those fields? I understand Cool Chef, you probably liked to cook and wanted to learn/do more in that field. But, Oakspear, what made you want to get into retail grocery management? Those are the kinds of things that could help me evaluate where I am and where I could go careerwise. Thanks in advance for your personal experience *ideas.* I think most people find it inspiring when someone else tells about good things that happened to them.

    A Poem

Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening by Robert Frost Whose woods these are I think I know. His house is in the village though; He will not see me stopping here To watch his woods fill up with snow. My little horse must think it queer To stop without a farmhouse near Between the woods and frozen lake The darkest evening of the year. He gives his harness bells a shake To ask if there is some mistake. The only other sound's the sweep Of easy wind and downy flake. The woods are lovely, dark and deep. But I have promises to keep, And miles to go before I sleep, And miles to go before I sleep.
  10. Actually, there was hierarchy in the first century church. Check out III John 9. 9I wrote to the church, but Diotrephes, who loves to be first, will have nothing to do with us. 10So if I come, I will call attention to what he is doing, gossiping maliciously about us. Not satisfied with that, he refuses to welcome the brothers. He also stops those who want to do so and puts them out of the church. It was all going on back then, too. I agree with you, Excathedra. I believe God speaks to us all. It's too bad that some will always consider that they are "over" others.
  11. Hello everybody. Anyone got advice for someone who wants to get back into their pre-twi field and has discovered how hard it is to even get an interview at 50 something? If you have had success in finding work outside of your field, I would love to hear from you. If you have found work in your field or any field that you like and feel it's a good fit for you, I congratulate you! Here's a teacher who writes what it's been like for her trying to get hired (and I'm sure she much younger than I am). This is a real person from a chatboard: It's not you...it's me! ________________________________________ "It's not you...it's me...no really..." Nothing you said or did You are perfectly qualified, in fact...uh..a little too overqualified I could really use somebody like you It's just that... I just don't think that we would be fair in keeping you from other opportunities. (What?) oh, you wouldn't understand...I'm sorry, have a nice day Really!? Let me try to guess..... You are hiring your friend, and this is just a waste of my time. You are hiring your cousin, and this is just a waste of my time. You are not hiring anyone, you know you will make one teacher take both classes and have a 2/3 split. You are secretly looking for new ideas and lesson plans. So you make everyone write one for the interview. You just want practice interviewing. You have to interview at least one _________ (insert your race/sex/age group here.) You are going to hire somebody you don't like, so you can pay them less. You'll probably realize you made a big mistake with the other person, and will call me you 3-6 months from now, so really hope I don't find anything. No, I do understand! Thank you, for reminding me I only need one yes, and I must get a lot of no's until the right opporutnity comes my way!
  12. ebn, hi. It's nice when someone says "thank you." Thank you for acknowledging those gifts from fellow posters (none were from moi--especially the Madeline L'Engle's books--could never understand what she was really getting at in A Wrinkle in Time :-)
  13. I would venture to guess some of them go to AA or the mtg for narcotics addictions and work the 12 Steps. For the others, they may get a lot out of Al ATeen--for teens who are bothered by someone else's drinking/using. Lesson plans? I have some things I'll send you in my files. Hope they help.
  14. I usually immediately think everyone who stepped on the person who died, should be proscecuted, but then realize, in a mob, you can't stop when they're pushing you forward because if you do you get the same fate. Mobs are the reason why the US government has so much power today, one of them. Before the war between the states, there were so many mob lynchings that it was necessary to have a standing army from somewhere to put them down. Still, I'm sure that doesn't make the young guy's family feel any better. I hope they all have enough funds and resources to go to counseling because his death, I'm sure, is going to be hard for them to take. Merry Christmas A *oles (to those in the mob who were doing the pushing).
  15. Happy BD, Rocky. ...and to many more!
  16. ..well, no, I think I bought it off of Amazon...but that was many moons ago--may not have sold the quantity they needed to continue to carry it.
  17. Oh, I don't know about that. Imo, they were stupid to run off all of us gullible, faithful followers who would have kept on giving money. That was always my opinion back then, too. You can't run any organization without money. Great post, as always, skyrider.
  18. ...well, I just hope someone teaches me how to read those stupid things before he comes back.... ...well, I just hope someone teaches me how to read those stupid things before he comes back....
  19. Thanks Kit and cheranne. Here's a not so usual prayer of thanksgiving that I like. I wanted to share it with all of you today. It goes like this: The Request and the Response (A Universal Prayer of Thanksgiving) I asked God for strength, that I might achieve. I was made weak, that I might learn humbly to obey. I asked for health, that I might do greater things. I was given infirmity, that I might do better things. I asked for riches, that I might be happy. I was given poverty, that I might be wise. I asked for power, that I might have the praise of men, I was given weakness, that I might feel the need of God. I asked for all things, that I might enjoy life. I was given life, that I might enjoy all things. I got nothing that I asked for, but everything I had hoped for, Almost despite myself, my unspoken prayers were answered. I am among all men (and women), most richly blessed. Happy Thanksgiving everyone :-)
