Everyone knows it's WINDY.....of course. I just closed my eyes again. -
It's not so much an argument as it is a distraction. Don't like someone questioning Wierwille's credentials? No problem. Just pretend the conversation is somehow related to Jesus. Better yet, draw some kind of parallel between Wierwille and Jesus. I want to know how Wierwille was able to represent himself as the team captain, when, in reality, he wasn't qualified to be anything more than the team go-fer. Oh, please, someone draw an analogy to Jesus or Buddha or Krishna or Mohamed. .... or, P.T. Barnum.(that one I can buy.)

I stopped at one of the popular "gas stations" that boasts of fresh coffee. As I approached the register, I took a sip. The coffee was stale and putrid. I called it to the attention of the cashier. He said, "OK, it's no charge.".....Huh?... Was that supposed to make it taste any better? Sooooo... Wierwile plagiarized the work of others (stale coffee) and passed it off as his own. But, because everyone called him "Doctor" (The coffee was free.) he is somehow excused?

Zero Corps: a group of nine members, originally called the First Corps, who joined the first Way Corps program and all quit or were dismissed SOURCE

This one was probably too obscure to be easily recognized. It's Better Man Than I by The Yardbirds. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U7Qr2hlsknI FREE POST! -
The "Zero Corps" was Wierwille's first attempt at developing a Way Corps program. The time-frame would have been about 1969 or 1970. The Way Corps, as you may or may not know, was/is an in-residence "training program" designed to indoctrinate particular Way followers to accept a life-long commitment of servitude to the organization. It is communal style living. (Think Jonestown, minus the horrific ending.) To Wierwille's dismay, he was not able to exercise complete control over this particular group so he disbanded it and sent them all "packing". To escape unwanted scrutiny, Wierwille swept the effort under the carpet and blamed its failure on the participants. The following year, he started afresh and the new group was eventually dubbed Way Corp #1, or the 1st Corps. Subsequent groups are referred to in like manner. (WC#6, WC#17, etc.) There is a lot more here on GSC regarding this matter.

Can you judge a man, By the way he wears his hair? Can you read his mind, By the clothes that he wears? Can you see a bad man, By the pattern on his tie? -

At least you're in a position of being able to determine the statistical probabilities.

Tom Petty played this one on his Buried Treasure show yesterday. I thought some of you might enjoy hearing the original.

The first one I went to was in 1972. I didn't have a tent. I ended up just putting my sleeping bag on the ground and crawling in. I guess when you're 21, it doesn't seem so bad. I can't imagine doing that now.

Yes, why they continue to hold him in high esteem is really a whole 'nother ball of ear wax. Sorta, kinda reminds me of a woman who is subjected to extreme physical abuse by her husband but still, not only stays with him, but defends him. "Sure, he beat the livin' daylights out of me for the umteenth time again, but he's really a gentle soul, deep down inside."....Huh???
-
Thanks, Steve. I think that cuts to the heart of it. This brings up another point. If a person knows Wierwille (I still capitalize due to the rules of the language.) was a fraud, but still refers to him as Doctor to add a perceived element of credibility to what they are saying, what does that make them? Or, to put it a bit more kindly, what does that make of whatever they are saying?

------------------------------------------- "You know Jesus wasn't really a defenceman for the Pittsburgh Penguins, don't you?" So what? -------------------------------------------- Do you considerate it disrespectful to point out that Wierwille's degree was fraudulent? And, no, it wasn't an "honorary" doctorate. What I think is disrespectful is the blatant deception he foisted on trusting souls, such as you and I. He disrespected our trust. This brings me to implied point #2.... What is it that compels you to compare him to Jesus, or any other Biblical figure, for that matter? This thread isn't about Jesus, the Bible, God or any other spiritually related subject. It's about the reluctance of some folks to acknowledge that Wierwille's credentials were fraudulent. I admit I tend to get a bit silly with it at times. The fact remains, though, that credentials, whether earned or bestowed "honorarily", ARE a big deal. Just ask our resident squirrel friend (or any of the many other posters with legitimate credentials) what is entailed in acquiring genuine credentials. You ask, "So what?", but I don't think you really want to know, do you?

Well, it's about danged time, you wacky rodent! Congratulations!

Most excellent and groovy responses. I do get the part about how it became like a part of his name, like "Sister Margaret". But, suppose you find out that Sister Margaret has been impersonating a Nun, all this time. Do you still call her SISTER Margaret? (I still think "Crown Prince Waysider" has a positive vibe about it.)
-
From now on, I think I'd like to be referred to as "The Crown Prince". Well, I did manage to consume the better part of a fifth of Crown Royal, in one setting, many years ago. (Mamma Mia!)
-
Why do people continue to call him Doctor, even though they know his doctorate was as phony as a three dollar bill? What motivates them to do that? It's puzzling. I mean, I can understand if someone isn't aware the guy was a fraud, but once you know, what's the point?
