  1. Dear Ham I have gone 3-6 months without speaking in tongues. It came about as a result of a rather freakish traffic mishap. I was pedaling my banana bike on the local outerbelt, doing approximately 75MPH. Ordinarily, I rarely exceed 70MPH but I was running quite late for a presentation I was due to give for a group of local neuro-physicists. As a rule, I ordinarily wear my tight fitting helmet with re-enforced lucite face shield. Unfortunately, I had neglected to retrieve it from the dry cleaning store in a timely fashion and they sold it to some pimply faced kid with an English Racer bike. So, I wore the next best thing, my old Harvard crewing cap. These, of course, lack the aforementioned face shield. As luck would have it, some guy in an old Duesenberg with a bad paint job flew past me at excessive speed, causing gravel to fly toward my face, just as I was opening my mouth to sip a power drink. A very sharp piece of gravel nicked my tongue and caused it to swell extensively. As we all know, when you speak in tongues, there is an ever so slight accompanying movement of the actual, physical tongue. I had to quit speaking in tongues until the swelling subsided. Do you suppose Dr. Wierwille may have owned a banana bike?
  2. Between the iron gates of fate, The seeds of time were sown, And watered by the deeds of those Who know and who are known; Knowledge is a deadly friend When no one sets the rules. The fate of all mankind I see Is in the hands of fools.

"Has anyone seen my brother Edgar?"
  4. I think God might actually be a motorcycle. Ya know? 'Cause Wierwille got a motorcycle as a gift and the giver has to be made of the same stuff that comprises the gift, right? Then, it came into manifestation as VP tooled up and down the roads of Cornfield, Ohio. Now, how much greater could a principle really get?
  5. When I was but a lad, the shadow of the Lord fell upon my countenance and a mighty wind engulfed my presence. From the darkness, a mighty, booming voice was heard to declare, "I, the Lord, wilt teach thou to play piano like it has never before been played if thou wilt teach thy kid brother to play Chopsticks." Well, as my years are beginning to advance, my piano prowess has diminished greatly But, boy oh boy, can that kid brother of mine play the living daylights out of Chopsticks! is proof of my Divine encounter.
  6. Wierwille said that people in the O.T. were only able to communicate with God when God placed spirit ON them. He further stated that this placement was conditional. If they violated the conditions, God would remove the spirit and render them incommunicado. When Adam and Eve sinned, they lost the spirit that was placed on them conditionally, thus, losing their connection with God. (according to Wierwille). As WordWolf has shown in his latest post, this is contradicted by verses 7 and 8 of Genesis. 7.And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons. 8. And they heard the voice of the Lord God .... So----They violated the conditions, leaving them spiritless yet were still able to hear the voice of God? How, within the constructs of "The Great Principle" is that possible?
  7. For as many times as the "Great Principle" has been bantered around throughout the years, you would think some one might have at least demonstrated some scriptural basis for it. I'm just sayin'
  8. I don't know, John. According to the chart illustrating The Great Principle, the originating source is outside one's self.
  9. Definitely a classic. I wonder why, though, Paul is not sporting his trademark Hofner.
  10. It affects neurological activity in the the areas of the brain that are associated with processing of language, emotion and self image. ---------------------------------------------------- During an interview on 2006-SEP-20 by Steve Paulson, Andrew Newberg -- Associate Professor of Radiology, Psychiatry, and Religious Studies and Director for the Center for Spirituality and the Mind, at the University of Pennsylvania -- said that the region of the brain involved in language is not activated when a person speaks in tongues. He said: "Speaking in tongues is a very unusual kind of vocalization. It sounds like the person is speaking a language, but it’s not comprehensible. And when people have done linguistic analyses of speaking in tongues, it does not correspond to any clear linguistic structure. So it seems to be distinct from language itself. That’s interesting because we did not see activity in the language areas of the brain. Of course, if somebody is a deep believer in speaking in tongues, the source of the vocalizations is very clear. It’s coming from outside the person. It’s coming through the spirit of God. 11 They found decreased activity in the brain's frontal lobes, an area associated with self-control. One of the researchers, Andrew Newberg, said: "It’s fascinating because these subjects truly believe that the spirit of God is moving through them and controlling them to speak." The data partly confirms the subjects' beliefs. In fact, the subjects are not in control of their usual language centers as they spoke in tongues. edit: Please note that it doesn't say the subjects themselves are out of control. It says they are not in control of those portions of the frontal lobes that are associated with language. In other words, as has been noted, it is quite possible to dribble a basket ball and speak in tongues at the same time.
  11. He had hobbies??? Geeze, we were chastised for even suggesting we would like to have hobbies. Wasting all that time and money that we could be giving to the "ministry", dontcha know?.
  12. Yes. is an interesting cover. It's your turn
  13. Perhaps one of those unspoken messages holds the answer to your question.
  14. Now, here is something that crossed my mind. If speaking in tongues causes your inner spirit to grow stronger, does abstaining from speaking in tongues cause your inner spirit to atrophy?
  15. Ahhh, but it does, my friend. It just doesn't always answer in a language that's constrained by words. Sometimes it answers with a sweet, fragrant smell or a breath-taking view or a sound that's like nothing words can describe.
  16. It seems one is a lonely number, believe me, being one is no fun. It ain't no picnic either.
  17. "Better than the Beatles"-----Frank Zappa
  18. This is where you and I might disagree. Many religions have embraced the concept of knowing God through His handiwork. When you see some wonder of nature, such as the birth of a child, don't you sometimes feel like there might be some kind of "message" in what you are seeing that transcends mere words?
  19. Interesting concept, Ham. And, if I understand what you are saying, you're not telling anyone NOT to pray, simply suggesting they use some method other than SIT. You know, like your primary language, whatever that may be. Isn't there something in the Bible about God knowing your heart, knowing every single hair on your head and all that stuff? So if you used the wrong word or phrased something poorly, would that have any adverse effect? I'm just sayin'
  20. So----Either we were following a man who, by his own definition, was possessed by devil spirits. Or---His credibility is in the "terlet" and everything he ever taught is subject to close scrutiny.
