Those would be examples of what I define as "identities". An example of what I would call a "genuine self" would be a person who is a musician at their very core. That person may behave differently in various situations, work at a non-music related job and even abstain from musical expression if their cult so dictates. But, deep inside, they never lose that "genuine self" which is, in the rawest form, a musician. Or, as John Lee Hooker said, "It's in him and it's gotta come out".

I guess that depends on what you're looking for. I've always been a bit partial to the Put-In-Bay area. http://www.putinbay.com/

Good topic. Interesting discussion.

I had lots of good times WHILE I was in The Way. I mean, in 18 years, there has to be at least SOME good times. I have to say, though, that I feel this was IN SPITE OF The Way, not because of it.

Literal translation according to current usage: "I hope you don't find out I'm not the man I pretended to be."

Thanks for your kind words, Krys, but I'm no saint by a long stretch.

Good point, brainfixed. "Wish" was on the unwritten taboo word list for TWI believers and yet, there it is, etched in stone.

Do we really know if these are even his words? Chances are, based on his history, he paraphrased something that he heard and thought was clever. I don't believe he was ever any kind of spiritually enlightened guru. He was a common conman who used God as his bait.

live music???? You'd be hard pressed to find one of those these days. Mostly you'll find a place with a dozen different sporting events on T.V. or a DJ "mixin' it up".

First, let me say that Fellow Laborers were bound to these same five principles. With that said, why is it that, during the entire duration of FLO4 (2 years in rez.), VPW never so much as set foot on Limb HQ grounds, much less did he present any sort of formal teaching to us. (ie: instruction in "The Whole Word") Our entire academic curriculum consisted of a Wednesday night, formal butt chewing session, where, frequently, the only "Word" that was ever taught was whatever it took to demonstrate how inferior we all were and remind us of how we were dragging down the whole "ministry".. Other than that, it was re-hashing the collaterals over and over and over again at night twig. "International" was only 2 hours away by car. And, there was an airstrip about 15 minutes away from Limb HQ that could have accommodated Ambassador One, making it a very simple trip in and out. But no VPW. Nope. Never once. And don't even think about suggesting that we could have formed study groups or studied independently. We were usually lucky to even find a couple free hours on Sunday afternoon to catch up on laundry. There was almost no time to even sit and read the Bible for a few minutes, for pleasure, in the typical day. Up at 5am----back in bed, with lights out, at midnight curfew. In between that was work, work, work. 2. Receive training in the whole Word so as to be able to teach others????? I think not.

Ditto on ACTS, which was supposed to be the main thrust of study in Fellow Laborers.

Still Thanks. That's Paul DeLay, one of the greatest harmonica player, singer/songwriter, all around good guys to ever walk the planet Earth. :)

If he was alive, he would want you to THINK it was your fault. That's part of the deception he mastered.

3. Physical training making your physical body, the vehicle of communication of the Word, as vital as possible. Yep. I can sure see where chain smoking Kool "shorties" and maintaining a constant state of drunkenness with an endless flow of Drambuie would exemplify this one. <_<

Ok, this one has gone "cold". I'll just post and someone can have a free turn. Here is Norah Jones with her interpretation of .

This is a good example. You and I both sat cross legged, half asleep on that cold concrete basement floor nearly every morning for two years. We "ran with the cows" and plucked thistles from the chard patch. You understand the "wayside" reference and I understand the "Watered Garden" reference. It would be hard for me to outright fabricate something about FLO that would get past your radar. There are lots of similar examples here.

1. Acquire an in-depth spiritual perception and awareness. What the hell does that even mean? I mean, really. Does it mean trying to live according to the load of garbage that was passed off in the Advanced Class about revelation and devil spirits as if it was really true? 2. Receive training in the whole Word so as to be able to teach others. The Way was never interested in "The Whole Word". The focal point was always locked on emphasizing those areas that agreed with VPW's twisted private interpretation. It's right there in PLAF (The Wonder Class). Wierwille makes his pitch for dispensationalism. That's what gave him the loophole he needed to live the perverted lifestyle he enjoyed and claimed it (the administration delineation) was proof of his high level of spiritual understanding. It was nothing but plain, old fashioned rationalization. 3. Physical training making your physical body, the vehicle of communication of the Word, as vital as possible. Nothing wrong with pursuing physical fitness---unless, of course, the purpose of doing such is to "make yourself a vehicle" to hawk PFAL. (ie: VPW's idea of "The Word".) 4. Practice believing to bring material abundance to you and the Ministry. Practice "believing"????? Is it just me or does anyone else see a problem with trying to practice something (the law of believing) that is neither Godly nor Biblical? There is no shortage of discussion on GSC regarding the pop psycho babble that Wierwille declared to be the fulcrum upon which the existence of Man teeters. And why should we do it? Why, to bring "abundance" (a misguided, misinterpretation of John 10:10) to yourself and "The Ministry", of course. 5. Go forth as leaders and workers in areas of concern, interest and need. But before you do that, make damned sure those "areas of concern, interest and need" agree with Way doctrine and ultimately serve to generate a steady flow of income through the promotion of classes, programs, books, ABS, etc. If they don't, (fit that criteria) be ready to "shake the dust off your feet".

Exactly! This isn't like some other cyber hangouts where nobody actually knows anyone. If I say "such and such" happened in Cleveland in 1974, there are plenty of people who were there in 1974 and would most likely know if my statement is incorrect. When I was a kid, all the guys had nicknames. (Froggie, Skeeter, Buzzy, Punkin Head and so on) but amongst our group, we knew who was whom, so those names didn't really represent anonymity so much as an extension of our identities.

Jeff I just "googled" your name. It brought me straight to your profile on GSC. I just thought you would like to know.

Elderberries----yum! I still remember how, as kids, we would go out and pick wild elderberries so my Grandmother could make elderberry preserves and elderberry pie. --- Ok, they weren't really "wild", they were planted and forgotten on a piece of land that was owned by a cemetery.

The sum and substance of the principles was that one was to pledge their allegiance and loyalty to a stinking cult. Why would anyone want to do that?
