  1. Sunday Will Never Be The Same
  2. I always thought it was quite clever that Pee Wee Herman named his dog Speck. (He was just a tiny little thing, much too small to be thought of as a Spot.)
  3. Ethical debauchery!!!
  4. Lots of fond memories of clam bakes in my younger days Never was a big fan of clams and chowder but the bon-fires and chill in the evening air always seemed to set the mood for good times.
  5. Hap I remember that being in my notes (same year) also but can't locate them at the moment. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Re: suicide AC syllabus B. DISCERNING OF SPIRITS . . . page 21 Spirits affecting the mind . . . (17) Suicidal spirit--Romans 1:16ff (18) Spirit of death---persons death is imminent. (this one is hand written, not part of the printed text.)
  6. Hiya, Chas I get what you are saying. To someone who was not around during VPW's tenure, the importance is probably not so obvious. Those of us who were around during the VP days held the man in very high regard. To me, at least, it's really more about credibility and integrity than it is about how he lost his eye. I never had the slightest idea he died of cancer until I read it here. I remember inquiring at the time only to be given a cold shoulder. The cause of death was very obviously obscured and hidden. That's a real, real big deal (and dilemma) for those of us who sat through his teachings ramblings on devil spirits and cancer in the Advanced Class. He taught that cancer is a devil spirit in the 1973 AC. In that same class he also taught that devil spirits were responsible for certain behavioral traits, such as addiction, alcoholism, sexual predation, delusions of grandieur and other traits that he himself possessed. Then, hearing him portray himself as some sort of martyr by saying " I gave my eye for The Word! What have you given?" induces a whole new level of disgust for the deceptions and betrayals. That's probably not a very good explanation but at least it explains why, for me, it's a big deal.
  7. Some "musical" humor.
  8. Is there anybody going to listen to my story? All about the girl who came to stay. She's the kind of girl you want so much It makes you sorry Still you don't regret a single day.
  9. Arsenic poisoning is, indeed, an interesting parallel. If I remember correctly, the currently acceptable level for arsenic content in drinking water is 10 parts per BILLION. ( I think that figure may have been revised recently to an even lower level.) The important thing to remember regarding arsenic is that it has a residual effect. Once you ingest it, it stays in your body and accumulates unless specific medical measures are taken to remove it. That's the concept the two little old ladies used to poison their victims in Arsenic And Old Lace. On an interesting side note, prior to the introduction of penicillin after WWII, arsenic was thought to be a viable treatment for syphilis, a sexually transmitted disease which, if left unchecked, can express itself in latter stages as dementia, delusions of grandieur, irrational behavior and tumors throughout the body.

    Happy Birthday

    Happy Birthday, dande, railroader, etc.
  11. For what it's worth, Mr. P., I dig where you're comin' from on this. Sometimes saying nothing at all seems better than saying it to the wrong person. Hey! Wanna run down to the truck stop with me? I hear they're having a big sale on Moon Pies!
  12. No one said this is a "closed thread". I simply stated that, as I see it, the purpose of this thread is to allow people to express how they feel about having been exploited. There is nothing in what I said that implies you can't voice an opposing opinion. What I object to is the derailment of the topic at hand. It's simply inappropriate to "discuss the discussion" or "promote an agenda" that conflicts with the purpose of this thread. You are perfectly welcome (IMO) to state an opposing view as long as you don't do so in a manner that is disruptive of the stated intent of the thread. So, on that note, I suggest you start a thread that presents an opposing view and moderate it yourself. Or, like the old saying goes: "Poop or get off the potty chair."
  13. It's my impression that this thread was started as an opportunity for people to discuss how it feels to realize they were exploited. If you don't feel you were exploited, then so be it. Go ahead and say so. It's not my intention to change your perception. Then----- politely step aside and let others have a voice without having to be challenged and doubted at every turn.
  14. I'll be sure to remind my buddy the next time I visit his grave.
  15. http://www.danoday.com/audio/costume.mp3 NEXT!!!!
  16. The cancer had already "metastasized". Simply stated, that means it had spread from the initial site(the eye) and invaded other organs (the liver). Perhaps you have seen some of the youtube posts here of Eva Cassidy. She too fell victim to metastasized melanoma that may have been a result of the extensive time she spent working outdoors. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eUwTdqPkluY
  17. WOW burgers! Yikes. Just makes me stop and think about how everything we did and said and thought was centered around selling that stupid class. Sigh
  18. He's everywhere! He's everywhere! ( not a song but radio related)
