    Ok Tommy, you're on.
  4. And I should add, as soon as I got back to Emporia, I was sent LEAD immediately. I asked JAL, so ......am I punished for my leaving Emporia sins? that you have to send me Lead like the day I get back? His response: You better go now, cause I can't accomadate your social schedule. Snort.
  5. OK, I confess. A friend of mine ran the class for mainly my family members. This was like, let me think, early 80's? maybe? My 80 yr. old grandma, as well, as my aunt, uncle, cousins, neighbors, the family pets participated. Mom and my then littles brothers were there as well. (they were heavy revvy grads.) The class was run at my parent's house, and my dad sat in the back and smoked cigars through the whole thing. And when he got bored, he went in the kitchen and made himself a peanut butter and jelly sandwhich. And was not very quiet while he did it. Grandma got up and said she couldn't stay awake, can we please get on with it? The family dog chewed a huge hole in the family room carpet. Uncle Dick said he's been raised Baptist and knew all this stuff already. Somehow, by the grace of God, (they) managed to make it through the class. Lordy, it took like 2 months. At the end, when it was time for everyone to speak in tongues, Dad said that it was a personal thing, only to be shared with his wife, (my MOM) Grandma cried, said she had waited for this day her entire life, Aunt Vivi and Uncle Dick watched. And then did it later. VP gave me sanction from the Way Corps to be home for session 12. Lordy. Next door neighbor said she spoke other languages, and didn't think it was such a big deal. And she didn't want to join a cult that would take all her money. It was interesting to say the least. And then I had to give a report to VP when I got back to Emporia. Criminy. Gosh, well, here's how it went, says I. We laffed. It was cool, though. Oi vey.

Hi there, Greek. Could you check your private messages?
  7. Sky I wasn't comparing VP to the apostle Paul or anybody else. My point is/was that he didn't meet the basic qualifications for a "minister" that many Christian organizations herald, ie, I Tim. 3. He was touted as as not only a "minister," but "the man of God for our day and time." So of course he ran his "minstry" like a business. How could he do it any other way?
  8. Ok, I was told that it was in the paper, one of the local ones, and the invovled female became pregnant. Scandelous news in the 50's. Word definitely was out, and that's why the resignation ultimatum was given. Regretfully, it can't be proven or disproven by any of us here.
  9. Sky, it's so funny (coincidental, not funny, haha) that you bring this topic up now. I just had this coversation, several times over, recently. Long story, but I just spent some time in Europe, where I met up with some old (as in knew them in a former life, not neccessarily OLD, as in gray-haired and frail) friends. And the questions you ask here seemed to come up over and over again. I guess my short answer is: VP sinned. He allowed his own personal sin, to rule his life. I Timothy 3:2 ff????? "Now the overseer must be above reproach, the husband of but one wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, not given to drunkeness, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money." Honestly, how many of these qualities did VP exhibit? Perhaps he was a very gifted man, who squandered his gifts? Just some thoughts.......
  10. Groucho I have heard the same thing, from a legitimate source. To try to document the facts, is really hard, because many of the ones who knew about it, have passed away. I've actually tried to find out more details, and have met some people, of our corps generation, who say it's true and was documented actually in the files at the Sydney House, where the official "way historians" hung out. The unfortunate thing is, the sources I have remember seeing the newspapaer clippings, but can't remember the Paper, or the date. I personally don't have the time, interest, energy to pursue it. Wish I could help you more.
  11. I would like to find her too. When I was in Europe in May, some friends were asking about her. I will pm you polar bear.

Hey dooj! Yeah, I still want to get up to UNT with my daughter at some point this summer. That would be the perfect time for us to meet. When J went to Dallas, I was just back from Europe, so it didn't work out for me to come along. Three weeks is along time to be gone, and I had too much going on here. Catch up stuff. But we definitely need some girlfriend time. Jerry, I pmed you about the group I know about.

I was just wondering if any of our non-American corps brethern and sistern are out there? If you are, some of us Americans would love to reconnect.
  16. The funny thing about this whole nametag discussion to me is, that all in all, nametags are really not an evil idea. Was it the leadership of TWI who made the nametags indicators of one's status in TWI? I don't think so, at least not at first. Maybe it did morph into that. But my experience was that it was the followers who got into acquiring the nametags for status. That means us. Everybody wants to blame "TWI" for whatever was wrong or evil, or whatever, but come on. We were "TWI" to some degree. I'm not trying to defend the evil cult, either. Just want to go a little deeper. Why would it be so important for people involved to find their identity in a nametag? OK, I'm sure none of us here did that, oh no not moi, but somebody did because of the question asked in the title of this thread.
  17. I think it's pretty interesting there is absolutely no mention of The Way Orchestra.
  18. Ok, I confess. Crude, vulgar, nasty language bothers me. I'm not a prude, I just think its demeaning and derogatory. And deprecatory, too.
  19. Hope Welcome back! and so glad you had a good time. I get what you mean about the World Cup. Joelle and I were in Munich just a few days before it started. It was insane how worked up everyone was. And in England before that, ohmigosh. In fact, I came home with about 6 "England Forever" t-shirts for my kids given to me by various friends and pedestrians! Every Pub we went into was abuzz with football talk. And there were groups of people from different clubs all over Victoria Station when we arrived in London, cheering, yelling, and just generally being pretty obnoxious. I even heard the same comment from someone, about the arrogance of Americans to call the baseball playoffs the "World Series." England plays again on Saturday. I really hope they win. I'm surprised you found Brugges disappointing. But to each his own, I guess. My grandfather's family was from there, and I found it interesting to see where he and his family emigrated from. And also, I met some very dear friends there, who were from Brussels, so I had excellent company for seeing the sights. So I actually enjoyed the quieter atmosphere. We didn't really do anything too touristy there. I think it makes a big difference traveling to Europe to visit friends who live there, rather than going strictly as a tourist. When I go and stay with friends, I really get a taste of what it's like to live there. That's why I took my daughter, who is 18 and just finished her first year at Texas A&M, along with me this time. She had never been out of the country before, and I wanted her to have a taste of the different cultures there. It was an eye opening trip for her in many ways. Especially in Munich, where she hung out with a bunch of kids her age that had already finished their schooling and were out working in the "real world." She also is interested in the study abroad program at A&M, so I wanted her to get a glimpse of what it would be like. The only problem is now, next summer I have to take my next daughter who wasn't able to join us this year. And then the next child will have a turn....... :B) I'm glad you had a good trip, Hope. :D
  20. Sprawled out Sorry, but I don't know the answer to those questions. But you could probably contact them and ask? Doesn't hurt to ask.
  21. Sprawledout Anthony Gilmore, who was 8th corps is behind the Belizean BRC. He and Patrice live in Nashville.
  22. Hope your day is as wonderful as you deserve, my cyber friend!
