  1. Actually, the site is not new, it has been up for almost a year. Looking at the times that various people registered. In all that time there are what 65 registered users and 160 posts? am I reading that right? I found the site Thursday myself, didn't know anyone else had seen it yet. ~HAP
  2. Is there anyone in Colorado, outside of Gunnison? I haven't heard tell of a TWI group thingywhatchamacallit out here in years, but I suppose there might be a few stragglers. It seems that in my occasional meeting of exTWI folks , SOMEONE would mention it. ~HAP
  3. Now then, back to MStar's post- thanks for the story , it was moving. ~HAP
  4. Sorry Cindy! (perhaps you could delete this pic?) edited - Thank you Cindy! ~HAP
  5. If you do get a Mac I recommend getting the AppleCare extended warranty. I am impressed with the quick turnaround my son has gotten when he had a mainboard problem and again when he had dead pixels on his laptop. both were about a week round trip. Umm can't Ipods be used on a PC also? the stiching programs you speak of? are they supplied by your sewing machine manufacturer? That may answer your question right there. To qouote a haggered phrase...: What's available? Even Apple's student discount program (a pretty good discount at that) keeps a mac at a high price relative to similiar PCs in my experience. Better get a quote from your friend, it seems Apple keeps their prices pretty locked, like Maytag appliances. grrr. I enjoy haggeling, and find that impossible to do with Apple or with Maytag for that matter. ~HAP
  6. um Jonny, no thank you, (edited to delete unnecessary info) ~HAP

    Gays and religion

Interesting stuff Vickles, and i dsid not get through it all yet. HOWEVER.... I did read some of the "reviews of biblical passages", and they raise some of the same questions I asked in the other thread concerning the Romans Ch. 1 verses. I have always questioned whether those verses are meant as condemnation of homosexuality per se, but rather a sin of burning in lust, (verse 25 speaks of worshipping the creature (creation? maybe) do all the following verses (28-32) refer specifically to homosexuality or to anyone who commits these affronts to God's will? Backbiters? proud? boasters? are these traits peculiar to homosexuals? I don't believe so. I see them amongst ewven the straightest of christians. Whatcha think? ~HAP
  8. bitches? you called them bitches but it is now gone? Geesh JL you need the hot water up there in the cold state? Hairy- the issue arose when JL "suggested" in his most former TWI revbrrrand tone that perhaps Excat should not come to GS. Do you also agree with THAT? ~HAP
  9. yeah, I hear it anytime there is a war or an earthquake. major wars seem to be every 20 years, and recently more often. Earthquakes a little more frequently. People hoped for the end times after the 1964 Alaska quake. and the Rat's island one in 65. Doesn't mean a thing until you hear the shouts in the air. Meanwhile, may as well try to be kind and live peace.. ~HAP
  10. I certainly felt Lingo's and Eagle's love for "twisted" Daryl. fine demonstration of love. give me a damn break. Yes Lingo you can voice your opinion here, (like I have anything to say about it) but to call another GSr twisted is over the line. Whether you meant it that way or not, (and based on other posts from both of you over the last year, I suspect you meant it all) that is what I heard you to say. I would sooner go to dinner with Daryl than either Lingo or Eagle. He is an honorable man, and worthy of far more compassion than you have given him. Perhaps your god will condemn me for being considerate of the issues others face, fine, but considerate I will be. The God I believe in will honor my love, and I will honor myself also. Put me in the PC group ifn you want, I couldn't give a flying fluck. I am so fed up with the 'tudes of the self righteous arrogant and mean people who profess to have the one truth. There must be a better way then their hateful god. fine witnesses he has. Does your little god condemn a person for that which he has no control? crap- how could you love that god? Maybe some who practice sex with same-sex partners, choose to do so of their own will. I am rather sure others have no such control over their preferences. The human brain, hormones and electrical impulses are very intricate. Why would one choose this? We do not yet begin to understand the powers that work within us. Is it possible that the verses that have been quoted speak to those who "gave themselves over" to this behavior? Is it possible that others like Daryl did nothing of the kind, but were born with these powerful forces within? Those verses then would not be referencing Daryl's lifestyle at all. So much for your "one truth". It is subject to interpretation. Always will be. The one thing that is clear is to love. so why don't ya do it? We Americans are so adept at lumping all who are different into one nice little condemned mold. ~HAP
  11. The Tremeloes had several top 10 records, some on both sides of the Atlantic. In 1966 Brian Poole left the group to try a solo career. this career was shortlived and he joined his family's business as a butcher. The Tremeloes group behind him continued without Poole, and were successful artists through 1971. They tried to show they were becoming more progressive and heavy, and renounced their earlier work. This was their demise, as it alienated their previous fans. ~HAP
  12. that may be, but we are talking 1962. 3 days after the Decca audition, and before the turn down, The Beatles were named #1 in a poll by Mersey Beat. See: http://www.rarebeatles.com/photopg2/mersey.htm The original historic Mersey Beat newspaper, issued on January 4th, 1962. This issue announced the results of its popularity poll in bold headlines on the front page: Beatles Top Poll! Just three days earlier the Beatles had auditioned for Decca Records, and after hearing news of the poll John, Paul, George, and Pete were elated. They knew that this public endorsement could not be ignored by co-producer Mike Smith at Decca and they would soon sign their names to a contract. The next day, on January 5thm, Polydor Records released the UK recording of My Bonnie / The Saints by Tony Sheridan and the Beatles (Polydor NH 66833). This was the FIRST record with the name of the Beatles on the label. Also the same month, on January 13 they were mentioned in print for the first time in America by Cashbox magazine, who announced the release of their UK My Bonnie single in their International section. On January 22, a six-week contract was signed by Brian Epstein and Manfred Weissleder, owner of the Star-Club in Hamburg. Dick Rowe at Decca eventually called Brian Epstein and informed him that Decca would not be offering a contract. Mr Rowe stated that "...groups with guitars are on their way out." There are three known copies of this Mersey Beat newspaper. A copy recently sold for $2,500.00.
  13. supposedly, Dick Rowe called Brian Epstein (Beatle's manager to be) and told him that groups with guitars were "on the way out".
  14. On New Year's Day 1962, the group(Beatles) was granted an audition with Decca's A&R department, headed by Dick Rowe with his assistant Mike Smith. Mike liked them, as well as The Tremeloes who were also auditioning that day, but was forced to select only one by Dick. Brian Poole And The Tremeloes were selected because of their superior performance (The Beatles has partied until 4:30 am that morning-and were tired), and because The Tremoloes lived just a mile away and would cost the company less in travel expenses.
  15. speaking of clarity! heehee I thought DADDYhoundog WAS a hubby. LOL ~HAP
  16. oen- On the thread below this one is posted a note that there is a free online virus check at: http://www.trendmicro.com I ran it on mine, didn't find anything, but it is there. Takes awhile, but might be worth trying. Also, you might clean out your internet Temp files, and perhaps get adaware's latest version and run it (its free) to check for spyware. ~HAP

    Merry Happieness

ok, I give up, there are more versions of words to this beautiful melody than I knew could exist. the melody itself was originally Austrian (1819?) ANYWAY,- Merry Christmas to All and peace be upon you and your families. ~HAP ps: Dmiller, you especially, my friend.

    Merry Happieness

The english translation of the traditional Austrian Christmas lullaby: (3 VERSES) Still, still, still One can hear the falling snow. For all is hushed, The world is sleeping, Holy Star its vigil keeping. Still, still, still, One can hear the falling snow. Sleep, sleep, sleep, 'Tis the eve of our Saviour's birth. The night is peaceful all around you, Close your eyes, Let sleep surround you. Sleep, sleep, sleep 'Tis the eve of our Saviour's birth. Dream, dream, dream, Of the joyous day to come. While guardian angels without number Watch you as you sweetly slumber. Dream, dream, dream, Of the joyous day to come. The German version has 5 verses, and its translation is different. (I will be back when I find the translation from German- some of the words do not seem to mesh with my translation program, or my limited German either) Still, still, still, weil's Kindlein schlafen will! Maria tut es niedersingen, ihre ganze Lieb' darbringen. Still, still, still, weil's Kindlein schlafen will. Schlaf, schlaf, schlaf, mein liebes Kindlein, schlaf! ~HAP
  19. I get these mails every few weeks, from my "bank", "credit card" etc. sometimes they are from banks where I do not have an account even. Both my banks, and at least one of my cards have blurbs about this phishing tactic on their main page, and have an e-mail address to forward the mails to them. they do investigate, and have busted a few of the senders. ~HAP
  20. by the way, the first link in your post Houndog is an ad, and probably has spyware. could I ask you to remove it? The second is a valid link to Goaskalice, which is a respected information site.
  21. umm, according to: http://www.snopes.com/toxins/progest.htm there is no such drug named progesterex, but the story has been around since 1999. This is not to say folks who gather socially should not be careful, there are a bunch of evil folks out there, but this one is a hoax apparently. three other hoax sites I check also label this as false. ~HAP
  22. You are right paw, the video card is new, the XP is old. I suppose if I can't switch the onboard video on, I could leave the old Rage Fury maxx card in, but I am suspicious of that card being the source of some puter freezes. Igot- the memory has already been added, I forgot to mention it. I am running 512 now. The hard drive (120GB) is also new, and so yes it will be formatted for a clean install, and partitioned. The machine has a SB LIVE audio, and is quite adequate for my needs. I will leave it out until after I am up and running, as well as the printer and Zip. I have checked for a new bios, and I am running the latest for it. Thaks for the suggestion. We'll see if I can get it done this weekend. If all else fails, I always have this old reliable 333mhz, that is very stable, to come and whine. ~HAP
  23. I'll second G-St-G's comment about the later social aspects and especially sports. I do not know where your boys fit in terms of the average age for their class grade, but be aware, that if they are younger than most now, putting them a grade higher can be an issue come highschool age especially. (sports, dating, social activities) son whines, "But mom, all my classmates can stay out until 10pm." - "But you are only 14 and they are 16" mom says. .....20 minute argument about whether it is age, grade, maturity or what that should prevail, often ending with the doors of the mind slamming shut. It is hard to forecast your children's interests 10 years from now. Unfortunately, many coaches make decisions about their favorites for their future varsity teams when the kids are in 9th grade (or earlier). If a boy is small, they can be overlooked at that time, and if later adolescence kicks in, it may be too late to get into the coach's eye. Its not right, but we are not talking about the brightest of bulbs sometimes when we speak of highschool coaches. It can be a very autocratic system. I focused my attentions on the academic for my boys, since I figured that should take precedence. I am not saying I was wrong, but I think one of mine would have been happier to have been a year back in grade. He was a "late bloomer" (runs in the family- damn his dad). He did not have the size in early highschool to show well to the baseball coaches. By his junior and senior year of course he had caught up, but never had the opportunity to play for his school. He starred junior and senior year with a rec league team that took state, and they could easily beat any team that highschool coach fielded. But for a boy, there is something about playing for your school. By college, he could pitch for the traveling club sport team, (the school does not have NCAA baseball). Just something to think about, your interests are not always those of your children when they get to be teens. We suggest you augment his schoolwork with independant studies, either through your district, or (better yet) as a family event. You are right in not wanting him to founder, but this does not mean he has to be raised a grade or two at this age. You will never be able to take back the decision to move them ahead , and have them repeat a grade. There are numerous opportunities available, whether in math, science, art, stage, music. Be CREATIVE! In a year or two, look for things like Odyssey of the Mind. It is a great program, and is offered throughout the world, with competitions from elementary through highschool. There are many areas, from engineering to drama in it, and it centers on the student's creativity, not yours. If your district doesn't participate, start it yourself. You can do alot, without needing to kill yourself with time. Kids grow up and as they do, they develop interests of their own to keep themselves occupied and learning. Its just one parent's perspective, but something to consider. ~HAP
  24. ok, thanks, the "more work" aspect was kinda my impression. If there is not great improvement in the way it installs, I will probably bypass doing it. One site I read mentioned it avoids installing unnecessary files, but its not like HD space is an issue for me. Bob, I well understand the idea of doing it to see if it works, I'd do it myself for that reason, if I didn't have a billion other things to do. Maybe next time. ~HAP
  25. thanks paw, yes I knew to have the Win 98 disk ready. (And perhaps the Win 95 too since my 98 was also an upgrade.) thanks for the idea about the onboard video. I can switch it on. I've never used it, but it should work. any ideas on whether it is worth slipstreaming SP2 into the install?? ~HAP
