  1. I am taking over a PC that my son has abandoned in favor of a mac platform for his professional graphics work. I have decided to start over with a new harddrive and at the same time go from Win 98 to XP. (this will enable me to use the old harddrives from it for data storage and on another computer.) I prefer to do a clean install of XP, as we tried to upgrade to XP on it before and had some issues. This has brought several questions to mind, as it has been a few years since I have done major upgrades to any of our machines. Since I still have the (currently unused) XP upgrade CD and folder, I intend to use it, but it does not have the SP2 upgrades. I have read about a procedure called "slipstreaming" where one integrates a downloaded SP2 with the original XP install CD and burns a new install CD. anyone done this? is it particularly beneficial over just installing XP and then downloading SP2? The machine configuration is this: MB= Asus K7V (slotA) chipset VIA 82C691 rev 2 CPU AMD Athlon 750 mhz (max 800) RAM= 256 MB (PC133) Video= (onboard disabled) Current Video= ATI Rage Fury Maxx 64 New video= NVidia GeForce FX 5500 128MB (BFG Tech) New HD= Maxtor 120GB 7200 w/8MB cache Does anyone have a link to a good step by step guide for this upgrade? Will I need to reinstall the Via 4in1 drivers, and other motherboard drivers? Does the XP CD handle everything and tell me when to do what? After installing/ formatting/ partitioning the new harddrive, should I physically install the new video card before installing XP, or install XP first and then put in the video card.? How about the other peripherals? (Printer/scanner, Scuzzi Zip, CDRW) Thanks for inputs, I've done this type of thing before, and am somewhat familiar, but not with XP, and not in a few years. ~HAP

tonto- why yes she was! I have no idea of her whereabouts now however. Do you? ~HAP

    ILLINOIS

SorryBD, the name does not strike a bell with me. Are you sure she was from Peoria? I was there from 72-74, left to go WOW and returned briefly for the end of 75 before moving to Colorado. sorry ~HAP
  4. tonto- Sorry, I forgot to check back on my own thread! Um, you know who I am? I will have to check with my wife about that class, but it is possible. She got into TWI in Gunnison, and was in C-Springs until she went WOW in 74 where we met. Check your private topics 'K? ~HAP
  5. hmm, which are the gay people in the ad? Hard to tell! Is it the bouncer? , the elderly couple? Everyone? I dunno. I do not see anything controversial in the ad. There is no mention of Gay marriage. It looks to me that the ad is exactly what is described, a message of Jesus's acceptance of ALL people who seek to know God. I guess I would have to see CBS's version of the denial, but from this version, I would say the network needs to be boycotted. ~HAP
  6. I once had a business with Tom, here in Colorado. Anyone know what became of them? I think they were from Indiana, and I know they went into corps about 1980 or 81. ~HAP
  7. Thinking of you today, especially, Paw. Heart and Peace. ~HAP

    wassup??

Dove, I understood what you were sharing. thanks. I can't get to the Cafe Chat (the one thru the "Go" button.) The link says something called the "Chime applet" not found. I expect it has something to do with something on my computer, but does anyone know where one might find a chime applet? ~HAP

    wassup??

thanks Dove, I didn't know that link existed (since I was not interested in a shirt, I didn't read that thread.) As a frequenter of chat, I think it would be cool to help in some small way in its overhead, not that I think Paw expects or requests it of us. The fact that the room is down could be due to numerous possibilites, not the least unlikely of which is a glitch in the parachat system. It could also be that they misposted a bill. In any event, it CAN WAIT until such time as it can be dealt with. Shell, I don't think anyone thought that. I, was referring to the fact that in light of the situation posted in the Prayer Forum concerning his Dad, our need for access to the chat could easily wait. Sorry if it sounded otherwise, I am surprised if it was taken that way. apologies given. ~HAP

    wassup??

I would be willing to help, but from previous discussions on this topic, I have an idea that Paw does not seek financial help on these matters. If I am wrong, just say the word, and email us a snail mail address and a check is on the way. In the meanwhile, while we have a break from chat (however long extended) maybe jen will come play in Politaks. ~HAP

    wassup??

It now says that Paw's parachat room license has expired. Only he can get it fixed, and I think he has other far more important things to do right now. I may get a life afterall!
  12. Isn't there a whole forum (Every Picture Tells a Story) set up for pictures? Why do these get posted here? and music too???? aaargh
  13. umm, I love my trackball with 4 buttons and scroll wheel/5th button. I never heard it click , but I guess it makes some sound, not near as much as keyboard. Warning, people who are not used to a trackball have trouble figuring out how to move the cursor, but that is my own computer security system! LOL I do a lot of cad drawing, and it serves me well.

    Wrong Target

they were trying to rid NJ of some of those ungodly, clueless, meaningless, immoral twi-like dumbnuts that voted for Kerry. Gotta turn the state red somehow. ~HAP

    Early Voting?

Krys- I apologize if I played a part in the sidebar. I also was a little peeved about the thread not staying on track. I think you did well to put it here, and I was not talking about Steve derailing it- I took his question as reasonable. It was the two off target jokes that ticked me off. ~HAP

    Early Voting?

I don't know how this thread got derailed so easy, but you gotta know I heard that "joke" 6 months ago with Bush as the punchline. I think it makes a better joke that way since it is more tied to reality with my version. ~HAP
  17. way to go Bosox- everyone party safe now ya hear? AWESOME! ~HAP

    Early Voting?

early and absentee voting are handled similiar here to Raf's expressions. I turned my absenteee ballot in at an early voting place, no lines, no postal delays. NOTE: Bear in mind folks, absentee ballots in my state, (and I expect in others) MUST BE DELIVERED TO THE COUNTY CLERK BY THE CLOSE OF THE POLLS. IF YOU HAVE NOT MAILED IT ALREADY, I RECOMMEND YOU DELIVER IT YOURSELF. POSTMARKS DO NOT COUNT! I think there may be some exceptions to that rule, like for military personelle, but in general, if you want it to count, you better get it there on time. Because of the checks to be sure people do not vote twice, the vote counts are not certified by the clerk until some weeks after the election. They will have a count, but it is not oofficial until certified. Also, here (CO), a list is given to the polling places of those in the precinct who have REQUESTED absentee ballots. If a voter claims to have lost or decided not to vote absentee, they will be allowed to cast a PROVISIONAL ballot. These are set aside, and only counted after the names are compared with the final list of those who did send absentee ballots. This allows people to vote even if they requested but did not complete an absentee ballot. Unless it, by some unexpected quirk, is a runaway election, I suspect the winner will be in doubt for several days, and maybe alot longer as the checks and balances that have been put in place to ensure accuracy have run their course. ~HAP
  19. looking for bumper stickers! THAT was fun I had forgotten about. thanks for the memory. I liked Sydney the best, especially 72, but that was my first rock, so likely that has bearing on being my favorite. Oops, guess I better correct that, 74 was when I met my wife of all these years. I spose I better make that Rock my favorite. was that Lima or HQ? ~HAP
  20. Excat- I will be happy to settle your confusion. Just vote for my guy and I will bequeath peace and joy on you for all the rest of your days. :D--> ~HAP
  21. drat, they left the tieing run on base
  22. those charges of Bush's treason, are just as valid as the ones you pose at John Kerry- that is neither is valid. CAN"T GET OUT OF THE 60s???? You are the one who is basing his vote, and admits that you will not serve or honor a duly elected president, based on your perception of 32 years ago. IMO it is sad that anyone would so dishonor the uniform we formerly wore based on false analysis of the effect of one person's actions so long ago. I proudly served, I proudly organized protests, and I did it all BECAUSE of the love for my country. It was not a game for us here anymore than for you who were over there. Some of us were even shot at on our own campuses. To allude it is un-American to vote for John Kerry is baffling to me, and casts aspersions even more on the motives of those who would further sell out our future by giving Bush 4 more years. This discussion should be on another thread and in another forum, so I will not reply again to this derail, on this thread. If'n you want, start another thread. I apologize to the OPEN forum for allowing myself to get drawn in to this side-bar. It raised my hackles. Frankly I was content to leave VietNam out of the quagmire of this election, but it raised its ugly head once again. Kinda like TWI huh? ~HAPe4me
  23. oh for pistol pete's sake! Eagle, I thank John Kerry for his testimony to congress. He spoke for me then on VietNam and he speaks for me now on Iraq. I will sort out the other issues after we are rid of the greatest divider of all, George W. Bush. oh hell, never mind. I am too ....ed off right now. I am American, I am patriotic, I have served my country, I AM VOTING FOR KERRY, so get over it. I don't think any TRUE American should vote for Bush, but I will fight to the death for your right to do it. I think that better honors the uniform I grew up with. ~HAPe4me I no more believe the propoganda about treason than I believe Bush's reasons (how many has he flip-flopped with now?) for the action in Iraq. The action in Vietnam was based on antiquated scenarios based in post World War II philosophy concerning Europe. I believe it was wrong. At the time, we were told it was because of the dominoe theory. If one country fell to communism, pretty soon it would be at our shores. I thank you for your service, I am sure you did so honorably. It was no game to you and i know that. What I think you do not know is that it was no game for us either. I am ....ed off that we lost over 45000 of our finest men in that war, and we had no business being there. We have no business being in Iraq either, but now that we are there...... ~HAPe4me
  24. I thought I had heard the same thing DM, (its not on snopes by the way, as of yet- but worth a try always- teehee you CAN learn!) I suspect the evil right wing media cooked that rumor up too. I doubt that Lehrer would "RATHER" it in the opening debate. ~HAP
