  1. I have long thought that Jesus was my best friend. Max Lucado, here, puts a taste of that into words. What a guy is this Jesus, my best friend :) :

  3. I had personal experiences of this kind kind of hospitality and mom and dad would help out others giving thema place to stay, etc. When I got into twi I figured that that's what twi was all about. I thought it was a dream come true; however, unfortunately, it turned out to be more of a nightmare.
  4. If anyone wants to put some "feet" to their prayers for Biker Babe, she has instant message. She said she "doesn't get on internet" so much anymore, so you could also email me and I'll send you her address (she said it would be ok). Her situation is even more dire than she lets on, above. Again, Biker Babe is one of the mistreated precious ones I believe vp and his gang of thieves and robbers will be accountabie for when they meet/met the Lord. As noted other places on this thread and elsewhere, God's set up is the family atmosphere of the home fellowship, where people take care of one another and when vp distorted that godly concept for his own gain he caused far reaching effects of "shutting up bowels of compassion" and the loss of dignity that goes along with that selfishness. When people help their friends they receive an accompanying dignity and grace because their heart beats through the other as well. God made us to give and we understand His concepts when we do as He prefers. (Sorry. I don't mean to tirade, but there are so many "ex-twiers" who suffer because of the curses we had laid upon us in that place.) And, again, Thanks Pawtucket et al, for making this place available so we could know about and be able to help people such as Biker Babe know they are truly no alone, that others do love and pray for them. God have mercy.
  5. One of the major determining factors in my becoming a Catholic is that their work and labor of love is directed to the poor of the earth in all categories. Mother Teresa made headlines (and won a nobel peace prize) for her devotion to the poor. It's always a good bet to give to Catholic charities that build wells, orphanages, schools, hospitals, give goats and sewing machines and live with these people, and showing them, in my opinion, the face of Jesus.
  6. After almost 17 years out of twi and in other Christian groups (I have been Catholic for the last 15 years) I am coming to accept that God is great in His wisdom and power, glory and righteousness. He has my good at heart and also the good of others. I can see looking back at troubles and torments, grief and suffering I've endured that God is over all and His hand is over me always. He is there and He is a kind and loving God. Period. The martydom of the 6 million Jews (and Christians) who died at the order of Hitler et al ensured the creation of the nation of Israel as part of the agreements after WWII. Also the subsequent laws of Germany made it the only nation to have Naziism and hatred of Jews illegal. The stories from CoriTen Boom and so many others who lived through and died (such as Anne Frank and Cori Ten-Boom's sister and dad) in WWII have left a legacy of faith and confidence in God's goodness and grace which should not be forgotten or ignored. Joni Erickson-Tada, as a young Christian, broke her neck swimming. As a paraplegic who learned to paint with her teeth she has championed the disabled and given many who would be without hope in the world for the 40+ years since her accident. God has all these things in His hand and truly His ways are unsearchable and certainly even more intricate and love-ly than the lowly peanut which the Lord told George Washington Carver was small enough for Him to be able to teach George about. Fanny Crosby, blind from six weeks old, wrote hymns which are precious to many. Her hymns are characterized by simplicity, directness and intense earnestness. Among the most popular are "Safe in the Arms of Jesus," "Pass Me Not, O Gentle Saviour," "Rescue the Perishing," "Jesus Keep Me Near the Cross," "The Bright Forever," "Close to Thee," "Saviour, More Than Life to Me," and "I Am Thine, O Lord." Before she died in 1915 she was counted to say, "The first thing I shall ever see is my Lord," Certainly there are no blind, deaf, or crippled people in heaven. It is most precious to me that God's ways are unsearchable to us, but the Bible promises and experience proves that when we come to him by faith is when He can show and tell us the things we need to see and hear.

A LICK AND A PROMISE 'I'll just give this a lick and a promise,' my mother said as she quickly mopped up a spill on the floor without moving any of the furniture. 'What is that supposed to mean?' I asked as in my young mind I envisioned someone licking the floor with his or her tongue. 'It means that I'm in a hurry and I'm busy canning tomatoes so I am going to just give it a lick with the mop and promise to come back and do the job right later. 'A lick and a promise' was just one of the many old phrases that our mothers, grandmothers, and others used that they probably heard from the generations before them to add color and emphasis without being mean or nasty. With the passing of time, many of these figures of speech become obsolete or even disappear. This is unfortunate because some of them are very appropriate and humorous, and because they aren't mean spirited, the truth they address can slide down easier. Here is a list of some of those memorable old phrases: 1. A Bone to Pick (someone who wants to discuss a disagreement) 2. An Axe to Grind (Someone who has a hidden motive. This phrase is said to have originated from Benjamin Franklin who told a story about a devious man who asked how a grinding wheel worked. He ended up walking away with his axe sharpened free of charge) 3. One bad apple spoils the whole barrel (one corrupt person can cause all the others to go bad if you don't remove the bad one) 4. At sea (lost or not understanding something) 5. Bad Egg (Someone who was not a good person) 6. Barking at a knot (meaning that your efforts were as useless as a dog barking at a knot.) 7. Barking up the wrong tree (talking about something that was completely the wrong issue with the wrong person) 8. Bee in your bonnet (To have an idea that won't let loose ) 9. Been through the mill (had a rough time of it) 10. Between hay and grass (Not a child or an adult) 11. Blinky (Between sweet and sour as in milk) 12. Calaboose (a jail) 13. Catawampus (Something that sits crooked such as a piece of furniture sitting at an angle) 14. Dicker (To barter or trade) 15. Feather in Your Cap (to accomplish a goal. This came from years ago in wartime when warriors might receive a feather they would put in their cap for defeating an enemy) 16. Hold your horses (Be patient!) 17. Hoosegow ( a jail) 18. I reckon (I suppose. Informal tally up) 19. Jawing/Jawboning (Talking or arguing) 20. Kit and caboodle (The whole thing. This has been used on me.) 21. Madder than an wet hen (really angry) 22.Needs taken down a notch or two (like notches in a belt usually a young person who thinks too highly of himself and needs a lesson or two) 23.No Spring Chicken (Not young anymore) 24.Persnickety (overly particular or snobbish) 25.Pert-near (short for pretty near, which is close by) 26.Pretty is as pretty does (your actions are more important than your looks. Tom Hanks made "Stupid is as stupid does" famous.) 27.Red up (clean the house) 28.Scalawag (a rascal or unprincipled person) 29.Scarce as hen's teeth (something difficult to obtain) 30.Skedaddle (Get out of here quickly) 31. Sparking (courting) 32.Straight From the Horse's Mouth (privileged information from the one concerned) 33.Stringing around, gallivanting around, or piddling (Not doing anything of value) 34.Sunday go to meetin' dress (The best dress you had) 35.We wash up real fine (is another goodie) 36.Tie the Knot (to get married) 37.Too many irons in the fire (to be involved in too many things) 38.Tuckered out (tired and all worn out) 39.Under the weather (not feeling well this term came from going below deck on ships due to sea sickness thus you go below or under the weather) 40.Wearing your 'best bib and tucker' (Being all dressed up) 41. You ain't the only duck in the pond (It's not all about you) Well, if you hold your horses, I reckon I'll get this whole kit and caboodle done and sent off to you. Please don't be too persnickety and get a bee in your bonnet because I've been pretty tuckered out and at sea lately because I'm no spring chicken. I haven't been just stringin' around and I know I'm not the only duck in the pond, but I do have too many irons in the fire. I might just be barking at a knot, but I have tried to give this article more than just A lick and a promise.

    Kids Are Quick

THE POTTY A LITTLE THREE YEAR OLD BOY IS SITTING ON THE TOILET. HIS MOTHER THINKS HE HAS BEEN IN THERE TOO LONG, SO SHE GOES IN TO SEE WHAT'S UP. THE LITTLE BOY IS SITTING ON THE TOILET READING A BOOK. BUT ABOUT EVERY 15 SECONDS OR SO, HE PUTS THE BOOK DOWN, GRIPS ONTO THE TOILET SEAT WITH HIS LEFT HAND AND HITS HIMSELF ON TOP OF HIS HEAD WITH HIS RIGHT HAND. HIS MOTHER SAYS: "BILLY, ARE YOU ALL RIGHT? YOU'VE BEEN IN HERE FOR A WHILE." BILLY SAYS: "I'M FINE, MOMMY. I JUST HAVEN'T GONE POTTY' YET." MOTHER SAYS: "OK, YOU CAN STAY HERE A FEW MORE MINUTES, BUT, BILLY, WHY ARE YOU HITTING YOURSELF ON THE HEAD?" Billy says, "It works for ketchup."
  11. I found out that I was still "me" and that those who were real friends still were and that Jesus was the Best Friend of all; that prayer still worked; that God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit were alive and well and still longing for a relationship with me even more than I longed for a relationship with them. Life has been tough for me. Some people have wounds that are easily seen (like people with damaged or missing arms and legs and nerve connections) and others are not so easily seen (broken hearts and shattered dreams), but God is still the healer, even if we must wait until heaven for the mending of some of our broken and missing parts.
  12. I read about this place in "Heaven is for real" but I never went there. Seems like a great place though, the "crawl a see um" in Denver. http://www.butterflies.org/animals-plants/exhibits/crawl-a-see-em.php
  13. "Heaven is for real" for me filled in so many of the gaps to a true relationship with the Lord. I recommend it to anyone who is still on the quest to live closer to the heart of the Lord and to end up in heaven where no one wears glasses and no one is old, and where the only things that are the same as it is in earth are the marks of the nails in Jesus' hands and feet.

    LaborDay History

Thanks. Good info. I didn't know this. I've never been a union member and I've always labored on Labor day (including 2011). I tried to wear white. (I always spill and splotch on it and 9/5/11 was no exception.) But it was nice to know that I could still try to be a lady. Thanks, again. Hope you had a happy one!!!!
  17. thanks. So happy for your happiness. Thanks again.

    Weight Loss

Congratulations!!! So nice to hear success stories :) My big excuse for my over the top weight gain, in addition to creeping sloth and indolence of old age, was we had this baker where I work who loved what she did and put all her kindness into what she baked -- real goodies. Truly "like mom used to make." I enjoyed eating her stuff so much (and it was free in the employee dining room) I rolled out to 175 lbs. After that baker got a better job and left it was easy to come to my senses. I have lost 32 excess pounds and have 18 to go. I have pretty successfully quit candy and I put spinach and basil in my smoothies for added brain strengthening and overall I try to think before I eat, "Is this living to eat or eating to live?" Measurable goals are always helpful, and losing pounds are specific and give a sense of accomlishment.I hope to carry this over into more significant areas of my life, like losing bitterness and ugliness of spirit, and carry hope over into being a better person overall.
  19. Any additions you have seen and would like to add? This weekend I saw: God is like Clorox, He cleans, disinfects, protects. God is like Tide, with Him style is an option, clean is not. We had a lot of these in Children's fellowship 35 years ago. It was set up as a fill in the blanks activity sheet. With my alzheimers brain I could never remember these things, but I have my Children's fellowship binder. It's the only thing I've kept. God is like Ford - But the answer then that the kid answered in the copy I have "Number 1 in the West." God is like Coke, VO-5, and Hallmark cards (which I always loved) Hallmark cards, When you care enough to send the very best. God is like Sears, He has the answer God is like Cheerios, He gives you get up and go. God is like Ivory Soap, He cleanses you, and God is pure. (the ad used to say 99 44/100ths percent pure) God is like Pepsi, He's got a lot to give God is like Bayer Aspirin, He brings fastest relief. 21. This weekend, here in Nevada we have Burning Man. (Thing started in San Francisco circa 1986 and migrated to NV because it was too lawless for for California.) I'm too afraid to go but Reno where I live is on the highway to the place and it's fun to watch the people come and go. Here he is before he burned last year, 2010.

    God is like

I found my Children's fellowship binder (It's pretty much the only thing I've kept). Here are some of the ones on the fill in the blank activity sheet. The child was to fill in the blank. 23. The humility of seeking forgiveness when we don't know what the other person is holding against us I think is a mark of excellent spirit when the humility and lack of pride is real. I know that I have been humbled when a friend has come up to me "seeking forgiveness for something they didn't know what they did" and I felt that they cared more of our friendship than whatever was separating us. However, now I know now that so much of our twi life was judged not by the Holy Spirit but by the sham and show of things, and this could have been just a ruse to obtain my trust (which worked). Now I trust in the Lord more and I pray that those who walked with the Lord, He would show them what a blessing they really were and convict those who were using godly appearing methods to use and abuse others so they could find the true heart of kindness of the Lord. I received this from Francis Frangipane Ministry this week and it went to my heart because in the area of weeding my own garden I have always tried to be sure to keep bitterness from taking root. I thought someone else here would like it also perhaps:
  24. I had a friend in Sacramento CA in the 70's and 80's who had been in zero corps. I always felt she was out of my league. She was just an on-top-of-it individual. She was not impressed with phoniness, lies, or hypocricy. She didn't talk with me about her time there, but she had a good life last I knew of her, and she didn't miss a thing of the "commitment" and "benefits" of being "way corpse." I always admired her because she seemed to be confident of her relationship with the Lord and with her family and friends. She was friends with twi leadership but she wasn't fawning or groveling, just friends. She's one of the people I miss being friends with. Knowing what I know now about the way things really were at twi, I would not be surprised if she had an "excathedra" type moment with vpig and she kicked him in the b*11$.
