  1. That, and there were too many news people around after he moved to DC...so he moved to a secluded beach resort by AC.
  2. "If I were my father, I'd have you tortured" "No. If you were your father, I doubt very much if I would have kissed you". More to come today if no one gets it from this in the next few hours. ...SPECIAL FOR WORDWOLF... Speedy Oven Fudge INGREDIENTS 1/2 cup milk 1 cup butter (no substitutes) 2/3 cup baking cocoa 2 pounds confectioners' sugar 2 teaspoons vanilla extract 1 cup chopped nuts DIRECTIONS Place the first four ingredients in the order listed in a 3-qt. baking dish (do not stir). Place in a 350 degrees F oven for 15 minutes or until butter is melted. Carefully transfer to a mixing bowl. Add vanilla; beat on high for 2 minutes. Stir in nuts. Pour into a buttered 11-in. x 7-in. x 2-in. baking pan. Cool before cutting.
  3. I've been following this thread and have some opinions on some things that have been said, but have restrained myself on commenting because I didn't think it would do any good. Here is a post I can agree with, and that includes the "not the best communication going on" part. But IMO that can be fixed.
  4. Yea, but if the right person clings to him, he might be glad he had a chance to meter.
  5. I know that last remark was not addressed to me, but to the bunch, but does an alien to this thread get included? BTW I once had an uncle in Tucson whom I was close to in my Shelby, OH youth. (That's Shelby the town in Richland County). I have been out of touch for years and assume he is not around anymore (He was 80 and healthy in 1994).
  6. Did I con you into that one with my last post? Not that I know all the oldies; I am still swimming in shame at not getting "The Great Escape". gotta be "The Music Man". Never saw it on stage, but sure did on the screen as a kid.
  7. Oldie, please, another oldie for this oldie!
  8. Neither had I, as I think I explained earlier. Certainly there was no "formal" teaching. I think the teaching of a woman submitting to a man in a marriage was somehow, quietly and slowly, expanded (in the corps at least) to cover all women being required to submit to the man of God. Even then, to the naive (like me), this didn't directly imply sexual submission, thus those of us with "pure" motives being able to share a coed tent on a camping trip without thoughts of hanky panky. True, there was no formal teaching like that...except that one thing that was hammered to us in the corps was obediance and submission by everyone to our leaders. You know, "don't ask how far, just jump...". I think it is pretty easy for us to see how Kristen did not have the option to refuse without, in her mind, risking her life...her eternal life if not more...easy to see even for those like me who believe there were a lot of good things in TWI. It may not be so easy for those on the outside who know nothing about TWI, and if anyone who hears her account, be it honestly and unknowingly or not, hints that Kris might have consented...COULD have consented...to the abuse, those of us who might be in the right position can help out.
  9. I wonder if he knew that guy I was talking about that came up to Indy after ROA 1976, D*** Stin***? You're dang right it is a pretty fine line. I think that the little loosening up episode I went through that I have mentioned a couple times followed that teaching. Even with all the lockbox stuff we didn't know was going on, a lot of us had enough hints on how ripe conditions were for abuse like what Kristen (AND OTHERS) went through to take place, even if it took some of us quite a while to recognize those conditions as such.
  10. Gee, finally, 9th corps thread over a month without a post. That allowed the 8th corps thread to spend 3 weeks at the top! and it wasn't even the 9th corps thread that displaced us. Everyone here must have been on vacation.
  11. Dunno here; I am guessing that Kris and/or Paw would let us know. For one thing, I don't know if they have done the interview and haven't shown it, or if it is a live thing. If the former, I would think that they would at least let Kristen know ahead of time, but I've never run a news network. I think publicizing Kristen's account as much as possible is very important...as long as it is what she wants.
  12. He did get upset over one article, and called the reported to ask "wire you saying that about me?"
  13. OK, he didn't have his best game and didn't get it. At least he didn't lose either; in fact the Indians won the game.
  14. Tomorrow night (Wednesday night) will be number 23 for Cliff Lee. And how about Scott Lewis, whose ML career now consists of 14 innings, all scoreless.
  15. Actually he took time off from his job to run for mayor, because he knew he would get a lot of volts. and to Mark...thanks, that means it fits well in this thread...a real groaner.
  16. How about the electrician whose wife founf out about his affair? He met with a lot of resistance when he got ohm.
  17. Nato, could you help me? I can't find where Jeff did or said anything like that, so maybe you are replying to someone else's post? Or maybe I DID miss something Jeff said, in which case a quote from him would help. Seriously, at my age I am capable of missing something once in a while...or so my oldest son tells me!
  18. Obviously not. Too bad I wasn't around to make the first post on this thread after you, though...I could have come up with a real smart alecky reply to your question, but it won't work anymore! :)
  19. Happy Birthday! Have a great one! I always respect my elders.
  20. I can't either, having been through it. It was hell. Now, Kristen AND SOME OTHERS went through a different hell in TWI that I didn't, so I would not want to make that statement universal... But your statement sure works for me.
  21. Evidently it hasn't been on yet, because I assume she or Paw would let us know here or on a new thread. I have written to Fox & Friends again ( friends@foxnews.com ) expressing my desire to see the interview. Dunno if anyone reads those or not, let alone takes them seriously, but my Spock logic tells me it shouldn't hurt to try. Of course, if by chance anyone does read and/or consider these notes, a bunch of people writing would be better.
  22. Nope...I don't got it...again....but one of these days..... Not that you need to hear this, but I figure if I bring this back up, maybe someone else will get it and come up with one I can finally get...how long has it been????
  23. Seems like a lot of you has rubbed off on them. Normally I think the more sentimental people are the older ones like me because we remember a lot of the history of these monuments, even if like me in this case, we've never actually been there. When someone in their teens or 20s has a grip on the sentimentality of the history of something like this, it has to come from somewhere.
