  1. It obviously has a bearing on opinions about abortion law, given that so many on both sides are wrapped up in whether the unborn/fetus is a living person or not. And, as such, I'm sure that the question isn't even going to come close to going away.
  2. I remember very well VPW talking about how Jesus Christ was not born at the time of the year we celebrate Christmas, and I remember him say that he wouldn't advocate changing because "the Word says we are not supposed to be observers of days". I remember well how at the end of my corps acceptance letter was "if we do not hear from you by Christmas, we will drop you." For that matter, we even had a halloween partly at HQ in the fall of 1979. hard to forget that since I was "encouraged" by some corps buddies to dress up as the Pope.

    8th Corps

See above but change to third place.
  4. I was a "volunteer" target once (my son volunteered me because he couldnt go on stage in his wheelchair) for an Ed Alonzo knife throwing act at Valley Fair in MN. I survived. But then I didn't (and still don't) look anything like this target.
  5. No, of course you weren't the only one. He was of course referring to I Corinthians 12 and "no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost." His emphasis of "really"was a reference to his comment about how anyone can say. "Jesus is Lord" with his/her mouth. I agree that he taught that SIT is the only way you know that "You're heaven bound, and all hell can't stop you." , but to me it was rather clear that his emphasis on the knowing part made it clear that the event (being saved) had already happened (dechomai & lambano, etc). The same idea was used earlier in reference to Romans 10:9,10, where the emphasis was on "believe in thine heart that God has raised Him from the dead".
  6. I remember the posters announcing the tour at Indy that year took the opportunity to promote John Lynn and Good Seed as "presenting" the America Awakes tour by Joyful Noise.
  7. It's just that I can't help thinking about how long I've been around when I see some of thhose and remember that I used to watch them when they were new or nearly so. Such as Quickdraw, Woody, Heckle & Jekyll, etc. This doesn't apply to characters like those from Looney Tunes & Disney since they are ageless. Anyway, I'm not surprised at your young age you didn't use some others like Popeye, Little Lulu, and Tom Terrific. And yes, Epsilon is still a hurricane.
  8. I don't remember if it was late 1976 or early 1977, but we had a class at the Indy Way home run by Good Seed....I thinkit was dealing with the Adversary. I know it was that "way year" and I know it was in the winter because I remember driving to it in the snow.
  9. Epsilon was downgraded to a tropcial storm early this morning...but then late this morning it is back to a hurricane. In his discussion the forecaster admits they canmt figure out why it keeps its strength in the face of supposed cool sea surface temperatures and wind shear.
  10. I didnt realize that she coordinated the whole thing. Maybe it was helping TWI present a good image that helped her. During the later stages of my deprogramming I was looking over their book of anti TWI stuff. One was a letter from someone complaining about Ohio U's decision to allow TWI to use their campus for AC79. I dont think they meant to include the reply to that letter from the OU people that they had received rave reviews from Ball State about TWI's care of that campus during PFAL77. So, maybe there was an image factor involved in her rise. Just a thought.
  11. If some cells out of the trillions we have die when we are sick, I guess that is part death.
  12. Okay so we have admitted speculation. I am actually a little interested myself even though this was way beyond my TWI time. Does anyone have any halfways inside knowledge?
  13. God knowing whether we are going to succeed or fail doesn't mean we don't still have the opportunity to try. That's why I think Oldies' and Raf's remarks are on target.
  14. The thread is a categorization that is convenient for reference....just like the hurricane scale. But even though there were some significant events at the interface times chosen, there were also events at other times, and the overall change was much more steady. For example, I think there was much more change from, say, 1976 to 1985 (all "TWI2") than there was from 1973 to 1975 (2 different categories.) In any event, there of course were big changes in daily life over the years.
  15. Oh, yea, and I guess that Indy home was pretty nice.
  16. That plus most of us, with some exceptions, don't really know each other; just as internet handles.
  17. Just ascribe it to people with real hearts and faith in God who happened to be in TWI. Anyway, no matter how big or little or spotty or widespread any early wrongs of TWI were, there is no doubt there were big changes in daily life from this time to later years.
  18. As I posted above, it all depends on the curcial question of life...are we dealing with the unborn as a life or not? And that is the question posed on the original post of this thread. To describe the guy's actions as terrible and inhumane is, well, an understatement, a no-brainer, or both. The described pleas by his wife and mother for leniency are something I don't understand and will not get into here, especially since simply anger management and not mental illness is mentioned as the reason. But who will argue that his actions were in any way excusable? The problem is, for murder or attempted mrder, we mst be dealing with a living person. If we are, then it is inhumane to end that life only because of how it was started...if we are [/i]not dealing with a life, then the situation is obviously different. One more thing...I don't believe that the beginning of life changes over the years just because of the scientific advances of our doctors and scientists..that is, the beginning of life changes with the the increasing ability of coctors to enable a premature infant to survive after a decreasing amount of time after conception. Conceptin and birth are two unchangeable points. But I guess it is human nature to have to find middle ground when two sides are so opposed.
  19. Any other oldie remember the Indy Way home I knew back in the mid to late 70s? Or know how long it kept its stauus? After JAL went to NY, I spent plenty of time there udring my corps apprentice year.
  20. I was at the 1977 AC with my branch leader. He had had the class before, so he was sitting downstairs watchint it on the tube. I was sitting at the front, and during one break the camera operator asked me to sit in VPW's seat so he could get a fix, for focus I guess. My BC came running up the stairs, wondering why I seemed to be teaching the class.
  21. When I was a young kid, I spent quite a number of days and nights with my uncle and aunt where they lived on the second floor of a funeral home...he was the funeral director.
  22. He always has been hasn't he...even to me that one time years ago when I woke him up as he was watching out for you. Hope your weekend is as wonderful as your birthday. my firend.
  23. I remember when that meeting was...in March...because I picked that time to make a solo spur of the moment visit to HQ...my first visit there...from Indy. HQ of course was pretty quiet...I remember sitting at a one table lunch along with Uncle Harry and the others who were there. I also remember being very well welcomed and not suspected of anything...despite being completely unknown to everyone there. Of course, I wasn't at the meeting...but we had one like it at HQ in the fall of 1979.
  24. Raf, did you get that somewhere or cook it up yourself? If you did it yourself, then you must be at least as old as I am, judging from some of those. And...Epsilon is still a hurricane!!!!!
