Movie Mash-Up

Recommended Posts

This 2014 remake of a 2000 movie was almost universally panned. Only one reviewer liked it (according to Rotten Tomatoes).

The remake had a bigger budget and a bigger leading actor (an Oscar winner, no less). But it was missing crucial elements of the first film, a result of cutting its source material in half. As such, the villain, played by a relative unknown in the original, isn't even introduced as a character in the remake!

The original was not terribly popular as movies go. The remake was extremely unpopular, though it did not win any Golden Raspberries.

The lead actor in the remake did not play the same character as the lead actor in the original. However, both characters were featured in both movies.

This remaking of movies into bigger budget turkeys is not narrowing

the answer down a lot. I thought of a few movies, but the latest

one that was an "original" came out in 1990, not 2000.

A different trend, that of revisiting public domain subjects,

that makes a lot of similar movies look like remakes of previous

movies when they're just similar concepts.

Trust me, I have the dates right.

The star of the first movie was a TV star who played a reporter.

The star of the remake was an Oscar winner who played a pilot.

The villain in the original was played by, pretty much, a nobody.

The villain in the remake was played by nobody.

The mouse died at the end of Green Mile. And all the people during Tom Hanks characters life. That's not it huh?

Not it. And although I read the body count as including a MOUSE,

it was probably a RAT IIRC. Not that the difference affected the

movie in any way (except for the extremely specific, I imagine).

This movie was not a war-flick. However, it still ended up with a body count of 77 people (plus 1 rodent

and one "robot"/A.I.)

This movie-and its remake- were given the same name in English. The Spanish version of both

was called "The Avenger of the Future."

or, possibly, there were zero casualties, including no rodents and no "robot"/A.I.

depending on what the movie really was about-there were 2 possibilities.

There was 1 remake but zero sequels.

This movie was inspired by Philip K Dick's short story,

"We Can Remember In For You Wholesale."

Does Trejo play a "religious" man and some zombie/vampire types are included?

Not sure about the rules if it's O.K. to ask for clues.

Even if that would give it away: there are no winners or losers.

You can always ask for clues. Doesn't mean you'll get them. :)

Unlike "Name that Flick," where you try to guess a movie from quotes from it, this thread is more "wide open," in that pretty much any kind of clues can be given (including quotes).

Trejo's character is not religious, and no undead creatures are in this flick.

Sho. You're lishting everyone but the shtars of thish film?

I have not yet listed the two main stars.

If you're giving a (very subtle) clue, I like it!

George
