  1. You should read the wonderful imagery in Song of Solomon...."my sister, my wife..." This was allowed physically because they had different mothers etc.
  2. The Holy Spirit is The Lord Jesus' spirit...so Amen and Amen.
  3. I think (not 100% sure) that this idea of "covering" came from the need to have a denominational support when you became ordained, i.e. "I am ordained through the United Methodists, etc." I'm not...just using it for an example. Then people should almost be able to tell where you stand theologically. However, it began to be spread abroad and it came to be equal to the non-ordained in the churches and that the church where you attended was your "covering." As far a marriage....this idea of "covering" comes from the Jewish wedding feast where they stand under a canopy and since so many believe that the husband is the head of the home....etc.....then poof! The husband becomes the covering of the wife.
  4. I was going to post immediately the first thought, that covering was your spiritual authority in the church over you. Then I clicked on your article. He makes good sense, because indeed that is exactly what does happen. Not that before I was ever into this covering thing. I have always felt that the Lord Yeshua is my covering and no one else.
  5. Seeking God's face connotes an intimacy because you want to be with the Father. As apposed to seeking His Hand, which is what a lot of Christians do when they put their prayer lists in front of Him. There is nothing wrong in praying your needs and wants, for we are told to do just that with supplication and thanksgiving. But just praising the Lord God and Father just for who He is and who He is alone, therefore seeking HIS FACE.
  6. I would think that the Lord Jesus Christ would the best MAN'S MAN to imitate. <_<
  7. I buy Stonyfield or Brown Cow plain yogurt with cream on top. Absolutely yummy. Down with Dannon. Absolutely no comparisons.
  8. TWI was into CHEAP GRACE, which allowed rampant sin indeed. I personally do not believe that one can lose the salvation of the spirit. I say this because I am a trichotomist. I do believe that one can lose ONE'S SOUL. The Lord Jesus definitely stated that this was a possibility. He didn't use the word SPIRIT. I think that sometimes when people wonder if they can lose their salvation, they confuse spirit and soul and think that the two are the one and the same. I do not personally believe this to be true. There are three different Greek words for spirit, soul and body. If the Lord had wanted to mean the same meaning for all three, He would have to use only one word and not three. I think perhaps the loss of rewards not salvation is what people are thinking about, but they list is as salvation. We will stand and be judged before the Lord Jesus Christ for all the works that were done in our bodies and the words that we spoke.
  9. The various schools that the prominent Rabbi's held, it was common and for the most part expected that the students called their Rabbi's "Father", which is what Jesus was referring to, and for that matter it was almost a form of idolatry. The students followed their Rabbi reverently and imitated him precisely. It probably looked rather comical at times, like children who deliberately imitate everything that you do and mime a person. The Lord Jesus was always warning to not do what the Pharisees, Saduccees and Scribes were doing, because it would act as leaven and eventually you would also do the same thing. This is why we are exhorted to imitate God and no one else. Whether the Lord Jesus was commanding on a wholesale basis that no one was to use the term of Father, Master or Teacher, or perhaps because of the sickening way that the Rabbinical schools doted on their Rabbi's, sometimes only context can tell. I like what Word Wolf had to say on the matter, of a long term Master/Apprentice relationship where indeed you would learn from the Master just as a son/daughter learns from their parents. Indeed, we only have one Father, Master and Teacher. Amen.
  10. Fried Okra could scare the hell right out of someone!
  11. The fact remains that the use of the term Christian was first used in Antioch to denote those that were following the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ. The essence of the NAME is that they are FOLLOWING THE TEACHINGS of the LORD JEUS CHRIST. It is not JUST A NAME to denote that perhaps you actually go to some type of church and function as a PEW POTATO. The Lord Jesus said quite clearly and concisely that you would know HIS followers by their fruit that they produced in their lives. Not that anyone is perfect, but there should be a consistent pattern of growth, even as a tree continues to grow.
  12. Soul is formed or comes into being when the spirit being takes its first breath. Soul is the byproduct of the intermeshing of spirit and body. IMO, this teaching enabled him to avoid dealing with the Lord Jesus Christ, because he knew that CONVICTION from the HOLY SPIRIT awaited him.
  13. The Lord Jesus was the "the innocent blood that was slain."
  14. HOW DROLL! I think this thread is dead! Oh Vey!
  15. Hey Oakspear: Hope these help! Spectacles.bmp
  16. Let's see, CMan....that would kinda make you god, wouldn't it? And you said you were moving up in "church world" in some other thread... what kind of church do you go to that believes and holds that doctrine?
  17. That is exactly what the Scriptures do state, Oakspear. It is certainly everyone's choice on where they will spend eternity. TWI used to teach that you were only spiritual after you were born again. I do not believe so, everyone has a spirit, but if you are not born again, it is a dead spirit and thus cannot "hear" from the One True God. When the new birth occurs, the Holy Spirit enlivens your dead spirit and you become hence, "born again." But everyone has a choice. Why exactly wouldn't you wish to spend all eternity with such a gracious God? Because some people have not been able to express it correctly? Read the Scriptures for yourself. That's kind of like saying, "I don't like the color of the seats in that car, so I will just walk! Okay.
  18. It's not whether a particular church condemns, it is the Scriptures that set the standard, at least IMO. Oft times, churches wield their own church doctrines that have developed over time and in some cases are not even close to the Scriptures. Some times when God brings some correction to "people's doctrines", sometimes the pendulum then swings the other way too far. But one day, the pendulum will swing correctly when the Lord Jesus Christ comes back to the earth and reigns. Will you be there? I hope you are. Sometimes, when irritation is present it is the Holy Spirit convicting and trying to move you in the correct direction. But be blessed indeed, if there is irritation/conviction, then this means that your conscience has not been seared.
  19. The Lord Jesus was very clear on the subject and HE narrowed it down to divorce being allowed only in the cases of adultery because some of the more liberal teachers of the law, such as R. Shammai, were teaching that if your wife burned your toast, it was ok to divorce her. What was also going on according to the literature of the day, was that men were simply tiring of their wives and kicking their wives out of HIS house, minus HER children that she had borne him. With out a bill of divorce according to the law, she could never remarry until her husband died. He went on to live with concubines (a sort of secondary wife) which was perfectly legal according to the law. However, since women had no standing in that type of society, she ended up either begging on the streets for her food or becoming a harlot in order to stay alive. This is why Moses began to allow divorce, because of the hardness of the men's hearts against their wives, but as the Lord Jesus stated, this was not so in the beginning with God.
  20. I'm sure there were some loving members who ACTUALLY WERE standing in the gap through prayer for those around them and situations abounding, but I think unfortunately, to most it was a catch phrase that sounded good.
  21. I was watching a cooking show on PBS last night and the chef had a really nifty side dish of peas that I'm going to try soon. 1 Bag of frozen or fresh peas Fresh Ginger Fresh Mint Olive Oil She put the olive oil in the frying pan and then grated some fresh Ginger root and let that cook for about 3-4 minutes to soften. She then poured in the peas and mixed that into the oil and ginger, cooking for about another 5 minutes. Then she added the fresh Mint and VOILA! Sounds delicious!
  22. I think that about sums it up pretty nicely. Death everywhere.....yup!
  23. Happy Belated Birthday! Hope you had a great day. Blessings.
  24. I think some did, not becaue of a death wish but wishing to receive the rewards in heaven of a martyr. To have the honor of having died for your faith even as the Lord Jesus laid down HIS life for those who believe on HIS name.
