I see Twinky beat me to it....The Lord Jesus Christ bought me "lock, stock and barrel" so I guess HE is the owner of said property and therefore it is not an inaccurate definition to say that I AM POSSESSED! PRAISE GOD, HALLELULAH! Now, however, no one in TWI ever said it to my face....but they might have behind my back in all of those closed door meetings where only the upper echelon on the local level could attend. Hardee-har-har! Thank God, I was never invited to attend any of these.

Hi BOWTWI: They CHOSE to MISS IT....it's called CONVICTION! Whenever someone is sinnin in a particular area, that will be the area that they will definitey try to AVOID. How I remember when I once questioned what I was being taught by TWI and I was striving to look at Colossians to SEE what they were TELLING me that they thought it SAID. The HOLY SPIRIT kept pointing at and bringing me back to a whole bunch of little words.....IF, IF, IF, IF, IF...... However, I was so blinded by what they were teaching that I couldn't make it sink in at that time. Later when I got out and some of the SMOG cleared of their false teachings, I was finally able to SEE all of those little words. WOW!

I think that the LORD GOD ALMIGHTY is capable of many life-forms. Maybe they function on higher planes, i.e. angels. If there are, it wouldn't offend me for I still believe the Bible when it says that we are the apple of HIS eye. Hallelujah!

Yes, it is called bibliolatry. I prefer to use not only the English KJV bible, but the Greek translation as well. Sometimes translations can be faulty.

I have a smattering and sometimes its just too darn funny. You can almost tell they were complete rivals and sometimes I think they deliberately took the opposing side just because they could. When I read the small amount that I have, really just snippets probably from the fuller debates such as (from memory) "R. Shammai say: Sweep the floor and then wash your hands. R. Hillel say: Wash your hands and then sweep the floor."

Interesting topic! Especially about the other leaders of the Sanhedrin quitting. Yes, the Lord Jesus would have been familiar with some of Hillel's teachings because he was an extreme conservative. It was R. Shammai that was the extreme liberal.

It may be a knee-jerk reaction, Abigail, but being polarized upon a particular subject sometimes helps stabilize the boat, so to speak. Behold the wonderful legacy of TWI dogma and mentality.

Hi Geisha, I didn't get a chance to read each and every word of your posts, but thanks for taking the time to outline some of the history of the church, it was refreshing. But it sounds like you need carpal tunnel surgery, what with all of the remarks of numb fingers, etc. But keep on posting and don't let other posters scare you away, even if they are offended. You'll find a lot (not all) of the posters here so wounded from TWI that they won't give the True Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ a chance. But if they did, they would find HE is completely different from anything every learned in TWI. He also knows how to keep both sheep folds, the Jewish one and the Christian one, for HE is the Savior of both. Hallelujah! Are you an ordained minister?

There wasn't any book that I ever read about the "how-to's" of critical thinking, it was just "do-or-die" in Bible college and Seminary. I guess the basics were taught without the students really knowing that we were being taught these things. But when you get your first paper back with so many red marks and questions by the professor, so that it looks like he committed hari-kari over your paper, you tend to read those comments and learn from them for the future. Probably, the best way is to read many books on the same topic if you can, ask and write down your questions and compare, compare and do more comparisons. That's about it in a nutshell.
