  5. We were spending over 400 a month on gas - now we are spending 150? ish http://www.hybridcars.com/calculator/ this will give you some $$ amounts regarding gas (not insurance however)
  6. Actually - Dooj it is the other way around...hybrids are best at 45- mph -- fast urban driving I guess you could say there are several hybrid sites, and teh major independent automotive sites explain it as well. In my experience, I drive 18 miles 1 way to work -- 9 down hill (35-45mph) through lights etc...7 on the highway at about 70 mph (rush hour) and another 3 or so on a flat road with lights Hybrids along with a lot of the newer better cars telling you your mPG as you drive. my best MPG is down that 9 miles because there are more opportunity for the battery to work and the gas not to be used. Hybrids loose mpg on acceleration because they require the gasoline to accelerate while the battery can maintain better. check this site: http://www.hybridcars.com/ many cars here in New Mexico are trucks and SUVs as were ours. But more and more your are seeing a shift.
  7. Just traded in my 99 yukon and hubby's 01 Siverado chevy pickyup truck last month. Got 'n 03 Honda Hybrid - getting 43-45 mpg so far got n 05 Scion (Xa) - son is driving this...getting 30-32. mpg also cot a used 03 Cadillac CTS - getting 20 -22 mpg on that one! with all the changes the gas changes and insurance, payments etc. I am only spending 800 a month on cars now (for 3) and was spending 940 before. We got 14000 for our trade ins. I will say this, if you trade in gas hogs do it sooner than later and do it under 100,000 miles. We have a number of friends in the "biz" and they tell us this..I do not buy from them because I don't mix friends and money. the yukon had 94000 - a mommymobile --- any how hope that helps The smart car has not got the best crash test ratings. Use fueleconomy.gov for real MPG comparisons on models and makes. Also the Prius was goin to be 2x the insurance that the Honda or 1.5 times of the Scion...check all your numbers
  8. it is a WW2 recipe becaue the other "good" stuff went to overseas or something.
  9. I think father-son clashes are not unusual...we have them here in our house. I have to coach son on how to deal with dad sometimes. But I think He was intended to be his father as much as you his mother. I think it sounds like Mom and Dad may need to figure things out, but if you figure all this out and then just announce to dad--where does that put you in regards to dad... Money shmuny---that stuff should not be an influence. Deferred gratification is one of the great strengtheners...read "Emotional Intelligence" by whatshisname. talk soon
  10. Yes , Yes and yea all 3 of mine do this. The one that past away in Decmber also LOVEDDD PIZZA - would stand and stare at the box on the counter and whine. My one that is a husky chow retriever mix --also has a bad habit of eating socks...we have closed hampers nows and it has cut down considerably-- ohh i WOULD WORRY -- he would stop eating for a couple days and then sure enuf' a sock would poop out in the back yard!
  11. I was not equating Tolle and his book as a guru following things. It was a side comment regarding Oprah in general. (2 separate issues to my way of thinking) I do think this kind of self exploration is indulgent and it may be practiced in other cultures I would argue they are more affluent than less and the third world populations are busy trying to survive, not explore the seperation of their egos. I have "tuned in to all the teachings"
  12. Okay salmie - you may not like my gut response. _ No - Hell no. I have an LD daughter - dyslexia etc....and while you may see a lot positives - I can tell you as a teacher and parent...no one watches out for their kid better than a loving parent!!!!!!!! My daughter has awesome friends--awesome parents with whom I am very close--but there is no way I am walking away from it. If you would like my phone number I can tell you some bonafide clinical reasons why it is not a good idea psychologically. I can tell you this. It will make a certain kind of memory in his brain you will not anticipate. Ten years - 20 years from now it will rip you both up that you were seperated...and it was optional---not life or death.
  13. Living our lives her way is what I have issues with. The author of the book is very interesting and has given extensive thought to things most of us havent given the same amount of energy too. I do think this kind of thought thinking is a luxury. One not nfound in many other poorer countries and in that way it can be overtly self indulgent to me.
  14. Well, I like the audio files I have listened too. I am not reading the book. I read Tolles other book - I need a month at Cabo San Lucas to sit around and read this stuff. That said I think what is termed spiritual is merely serious metathinking. In the Language pathology world we call this this theory of mind at its most fundamental. Much lacking in certain dx. It is also lacking in many of societies robots that follower the TV - Magazine neighbor --keep up witht he Jones population - they gave up thinking for themselves...consequently they gave up thinking about what they think about. This book addresses that - at least the author does this ont he audio files I have listened to. I do think like anything there will be extremists...but overall it seems to be only helping people become better aware of themselves with anything plugged into their brains as to the awareness - that I think is always a good thing. Something that we all needed earlier on in the way --something that mingt have helped up use our gut instinct much sooner than we did. I think anything that helps people get better at being themselves is a good thing. On a seperate not -- not particulary related to the book in question, I do think Oprah has become an "ology" Her new tv ":teaching" channel and HER best life -- not mine -- one size does not fit all -- consequently I think she has gotten very "big" and there will always be followers and worshipers of anything or anyone that big. but I prefer the verse idea that we can prove all things, and hold fast to the good.
  15. we have one of each...well 2 PC laptops..1 Mac -g-5 anf gonna get a mac laptop soon.
  16. There are worse things than being lonely. Also kinda of like leaving the way --but on different terms, I would need to regroup...get to know myself gain, maybe even bring alive parts I buried while dealing with other things - not that there is any judjement - just an awareness of new needs.

    Osteoarthritis

due to the loss of cartilage and the oste.. my mom's one leg is off by 10 whole degrees below the knee...she has told me she should have had beterr "sports therapy" when she was younger for her knees. She was a risk management quality assurance administrator for 3 teAching hospitals (at one time)

    Osteoarthritis

Here is what I know. My Mom has it....dx'ed about 20 years ago.... She thanks God for Celebrex..other drugs on't work for her or have too many side effects. She has is worst in her knees. She has had arthroscopic surgury - I even saw the video woo woo. She has had synvisc injections---they lasted about 4 months for her and one knee worked better than the other. she swims 3 times a week usually about a mile a time (50-60 laps or something) her arteries and veins are good..just not her joints. She is 70 -- ummm still smokes, was heavy like a size 20 as a working adult. (I think that cant help and probably aggravated it a little) I want her to get knee replacements - my aunt did and several others I know and swear by them. But Mom is not one to tell something to. (barely suggest even) thats what I know.
  20. yeah-- we still trust in god---Yahoo....(said with tongue planted in cheek)
  21. yes I know what you mean -- and no I ain't joining that kids group either.....maybe its the idea that human nature is too turn it into a "new thing" -- call it what they will....it becomes less meta and more followa... I am enjoying what I had so far...confirms somethings I already thought...don't completely agree with seperating from the voice all the time --- we do have fight and flight for a reason...but then voice can get in the way of fight or flight becasue we listen to voice when we should be in tune to fight or flight.
  22. I am not sure I am ready to call God all consciousness...or maybe I am missing his point.
