Nothing in any internet forum discussion suggests the reader is responsible for looking up anything to support the writer's claim(s). You only saved yourself the time associated with making an actual argument worth any one's consideration. Let's not "confine the discussion to what the word [not capitalized] says." You haven't established that The Word (if that is, indeed, what you are referring to) is the authority for what the Creator of Heaven and Earth actually means.

The only reason you're not engaged in "any kind of meaningful discussion" is because you seem averse to having your claims challenged and my asking you to at least give YOUR explanation rather than defaulting to someone else's words.

Again, that's not a statement of how you arrived at your conclusion. In fact it's not a statement of anything that YOU arrived at. At least explain YOUR reasoning for taking that particular verse and defaulting to it. All you did was state a default position written by someone else. You gave no explanation.

That's a completely backward understanding of the process of communication. It is the listener/reader who determines whether or not to ask for clarification, not the speaker/writer. Your statement is also fairly characterized as a cop out... and another bogus claim made with ZERO support.

Please explain why you believe "The Bible" and academia are most definitely at odds and how you arrived at said conclusion. Then explain why you so easily dismissed that point as insignificant... unless you suggest it is not insignificant. In which case, please explain the significance you believe it holds.

wah wah wah... the difference is that I didn't make a claim and then proceed to argue that claim to be true. Here's what I said, "I suspect that your thread title is misleading, suggesting the topic would be political." IOW, you again made a dubious claim. That's an "I statement." Such statements indicate that I am setting forth my perception as opposed to making any claim about you or your words.

There is SO much in your post that you claim without either proving or even supporting logically. I agree that this is a discussion fitting for the doctrinal forum, but this IS the Open Forum where anything (except for politics) is allowable. I also suspect that your thread title is misleading, suggesting the topic would be political. To reiterate, my biggest concern (not a matter of whether or not this discussion should be allowed) is that you state several things that you expect the reader to accept at face value just because you say so. That makes your arguments weak and ultimately unsound and invalid. I don't buy them.

The author of that article could have benefited greatly from consultation with a copy editor. There are several typographical errors. Also, though there are several links to allegedly supporting material, the one I looked at (related to music) wasn't necessarily authoritative. Further, with popular music involving sometimes significant sums of money, litigation can be involved and whether or not the litigation was successful would color claims of plagiarism one way or another. Thanks, Bolshevik, for the food for thought but I'm skeptical.
