I guess it's all over now--- sigh :(.

Really, I think Christmas eve night is the very special time for us. So.. what filthy lucre did I get?? :D Mostly clothes. Shirts, ties, even a pair of Bill's khakis. Let's see.. what else... some Ole Miss ornaments for the Christmas tree. But I'm hard to buy for.

i got a lamp just like the one in a christmas story!! really!!!
Somebody in your life has a good sense of humor...and knows that you have one! :jump:

My wife and stepdaughter got me the 5-CD box set of Martin Scorsese's The Blues and my stepson got me all three DVD's of The Lord of the Rings.

Somebody at work got me a wonderfully tacky light-up Spider-Man head.

I got a ton of Dog Kisses from Lucca for his chew bone and new ball. He is a rescue dog from a puppy farm and spent his first 3 years living in a breeder cage. He is so happy for anything that he gets. What a lesson in being thankful he re-teaches me everyday. He has nothing else to give but his love which he freely gives..... another lesson! Those were my gifts this year and no I won't trade you! Priceless...for everything else there is MasterCard

Fillet Mignon (grilled to order)! My son and his wife invited us for dinner. They supplied much of it but everyone brought something special to contribute. After dinner, beautiful music brought me down the hall and one of the cousins was playing her violin (she's a freshman in hs and only started last July, but this is her 4th instrument to master) while her mother chimed in with her flute. The other aunt strummed her guitar and I was in heaven.

We listened some, sang bunches of Carols and a few other songs. This was a class act - impromptu as it was. Sinfully elegant chocolate cake, specially coated apples, cheesecake and coffee finished the evening.

My gift was seeing my son and his wife secure in their loving relationship entertaining those who were most important to them. They did so with such elegance and grace and from loving thankful hearts - so that everyone there was only 1 family. There were 6 teenagers and all of them came to the music room to listen with the rest of us.

IMHO there is no better gift that I could have received!

My wife and son got together and got me an external hard drive ( 250 gig ) which is nice because no matter how big the drive I always manage to fill it up, mostly with music files. My daughter got me the Johnny Cash "legend" CD ( both son and daughter want to borrow it to check it out ! ) and my parents sent me a check which I used to buy the "Monterey Pop" DVD set. That's always been my favorite concert movie and it's great to own it on DVD.

This year and last we spent Christmas Day visiting my sister and her husband ( most of the family is still back in New York ). I'm blessed because for me Christmas Day was always anti-climatic. I work ( at least 'till they shut down at the end of Feb. ) in the warehouse of a Japanese camera company and in our business we handle the "Christmas Rush" from Sept. on. So there's this big build up to Christmas. But after the presents are opened on Christmas morning it's the old "is that there all that is ?" feeling. My sister and I had been getting together on Christmas Eve but now we're getting together Christmas Day which makes the day feel more festive.

This Christmas was a particular blessing because my brother-in-law had been fighting cancer and in June they gave him six months or less. But this month the tumors started shrinking and disappearing and we know it was definitely answered prayer so this is definitely one of the best Christmas's ever.

Cool Chef! Did the box that your lamp came in say "Fra-jee-lay"? (Fragile?)

Too funny dude. You musta cracked up when you opened it up...

I got a headset that tunes into to the TV audio frequency so I can watch movies with the Fam without always having to say; "Huh? What did she say? What's he say?" which drives my wife and kids nuts, for, I am purdy hard of hearing. The kids and wife all laughed uproariously when I opened it up and figured out what it was! Then I told them that they'd better not laugh, because, no doubt, when it comes time to comment during the movies, I will undoubtedly be doubly loud, for, with headphiones on, I will no doubt talk alot louder as people with headphones are "wont to do". And no doubt, I will make sure to do it on purpose just to raz them...Haha!

And I got a new Carhart sweatshirt for work, a new wallet from my mom with a $200.00 check in it, and a few other things.

The best thing I got was a housefull of happy healthy kids and a happy healthy wife, and a great outlook for the new year. Life is so grand, and of all people I do not deserve the blessings that God has bestowed upon me, my wife, and kids, and my dawg Jake and cat Sir Dunston. I don't know why, but Life Its Ownself is just too good, and I am thankful... :)

My wife and I got to spend the afternoon and evening with the boys and their girlfrieds, eating and playing games. We did no exchange of gifts, just spent quality time together. A truly special gift to MsHAP and myself. One of the more relaxing and unpressured holidays of my remembrance.

Hey Geo -- I didn't *get* much either.

2 books (from my mother the librarian).

One was Opus Dei

(she sent it my way thinking of me and former cult involvement),

And the other was

The Lord is My Shephard (by Kushner)

To help me get over the loss of my sister

(which I have come to grips with)

I know you don't care for either religion, or God.

My gift to you is to be thinking of you,

and hoping that you get satisfaction out of life,

regardless of the curves thrown your way.

I hope you accept.

Life is more than endeavors that turn out sour.

(I know that one from personal experience, too)

And life goes on despite the crap that

flows downhill.

You are a good guy. Never forget that.

Regardless of the curves being thrown your way.

OK???

Take care, and merry (insert comment/holiday here) to you.

You were a great person to know when you lived here. You still are. :)

David

Awwwww, such great replies!

George, I'm sorry your holiday was less than great. Those first few years are always the hardest. David, I'm sorry you didn't get to go home.

This year part of my gift was having my plane ticket paid for so I could fly instead of drive home. My little brother also got a plane ticket home. My Daddy's whole family was here and it was superb! My Mama's family came by while we're in town to visit, too. We got to see everyone, play games, visit, etc. That's the best present, imo! Especially so now as my grandmother says she doesn't expect Paw Paw to make it to next year.

The second best present was surprising, shocking and tickling my Daddy with the last thing he would have expected - a poster size print of the family custom designed and absolutely awesome!!! (((Thanks to BOWTWI and her ex))) He was so shocked!! I wrapped it in a TWI Annual Poster Tube, so we got a big kick out of that, too. I told him I bought him this year's poster to hang in the living room...

Physical presents, I racked up! I got the Harry Potter 3-DVD box set, a book on Mary Magadlene, Svarowski Crystal bracelets, money and a some other really nice things.

Last night was the annual trip to the movie theater. This year Narnia was the movie of choice. Twas a good flick.

David,

Thanks for the sentiments. I really do appreciate it.

I realize that my lot in life is hardly the worst around, but ocassionally it gets the better of me.

I also know that there's lots of guys who've been down the same road I'm on (you, me, Ron, Raf just in this thread). I think we deserved better. But then, ... I would...

Been thinking about going back to Minniesohda this spring for some fishing (maybe just after ice-out). You ever put down your fiddle long enough to pick up a fly rod? Lake Vermillion northerns maybe?

Not even a lump of coal Raf? That's harsh...

I got a set of Charles Dickens books and a Charles Dickens action figure.

Hey Ron,

What does he do when you pull his string, do public readings of his works, and then keel over from all the stress?

My #1 gift was that my mom is recovering steadily after suffering a heart attack the Monday before Christmas. She was able to come home from the hospital on Friday, and we had a nice, low-key get-together on Christmas day. I was also thankful to be able to spend two Christmases in a row with my son. The years when he couldn't get here from Colorado were rough for me. I could get used to this!

The other gift was my son's bringing his dog to my house for a nice long visit--until after New Year's eve when he won't be working so many hours. ("He" being my son. :) His dog's "job" is just to be adorable, sweet, and snuggly.)

WhiteDove, I didn't know you'd found Lucca. How wonderful! And I agree--doggie kisses are always a gift, and rescued dogs really do show their gratitude and love.

Geo., I was thinking of you on Christmas. Trust me, it's not only you guys who have been through the break-up of their marriages, and Christmas can seem pretty bleak at first. (I guess that's especially so when you don't think much of Christmas to begin with.) I trust it will get better for you.

Linda

I'm sorry to hear about your mom, but glad she is better and that you got to spend Christmas with her.

Really Dot found Lucca she must have sent me pages of dogs but I was leaning toward a wolf sable colored Pom but they are harder to find. And I didn't really want a puppy either. So when she sent this link to the shelter I decided to take a short drive up to Oakman's neck of the woods and check it out. I could not resist those big soulful eyes of his.
