Does anyone else remember studying Napoleon Hill and W.Clement Stone in the various leadership training seminars? HERE HERE and on and on and on........x17

"He traveled all over the country, going wherever he thought someone might be able to help him in his quest." There's some truth in that. You just have to understand that the object of his quest was to bed young female followers.

Hmmmm----9th grade would have been about 1964 for me. No, it's not Dylan or Springsteen. -
To be more clear about this.....Wierwille presented a variety of conspiracy-type theories and, though I don't think he ever actually said he got them via revelation, he implied that he did.... and let people believe his implications. There were some who knew of his connection to Liberty Lobby, but, the vast majority of people had no idea until decades after the fact.

I saw all sorts of these theories and reports around the time of the bicentennial. In fact, the now defunct Liberty Lobby was notoriously active in constructing and disseminating such theories. Wierwille, you may or may not know, had direct ties to Liberty Lobby. A lot of the conspiracy ideas that Wierwille lead us believe came to him by revelation actually came from The Spotlight, Liberty Lobby's newsletter. Never saw any proof that those things Wierwille was promoting were true, though. Still not seeing any, for that matter.

Phruck 'em! hahahahahahahaha!

TWI is like one of those old rock bands that has no original members but keeps on touring the world, using the same name.

I think that's what I meant about the journey being more important than the destination.

Competent To Counsel Yep I remember this one . I took a seminar that used it as the main text. I think it lasted a whole weekend! hahahahaha! Anyhow, maybe this transcript was an addendum to the seminar. I guess that might explain why I don't remember it.

From what I've looked at so far, there is plenty of "how". Most of it consists of pumping yourself full of scriptures, going WOW and signing people up for the class. I'll see if I can get back later with some excerpts.

And this from page 8: "People generally feel bad because of bad behavior. Conscience has been defined as man's ability to evaluate his own actions. Dr. Wierwille defines conscience as habit patterns, or says that it is determined by habit patterns, that one develops during one's life. That conscience or that habit pattern reflex in your mind activates unpleasant emotional and other bodily warning devices; or signals bad feelings about yourself, when you are doing wrongly, when you miss the mark when you sin. When you fail, you feel it." Now, there's some mighty scary jive right there. Did Charles Manson "feel bad" when he was "missing the mark" Frightening, really.

-------John Kay and Steppenwolf -
This might be something we took in fellowlaborers. It could have been a guest speaker from the Corps, working on their "research" paper. Geeze, I can't believe I can't remember this!

I seem to remember it being in PFAL. Maybe, the fifth session? Dunno. It's probably in one of the collaterals, too. I think the essence of what he was saying was that life is more about the journey than the destination. Not an entirely bad way to look at things.....unless, of course, other people are made to suffer because of the path you take, which is what happened on the path VPW chose to travel.

I don't remember who taught it. It wasn't LCM, though. This transcript is from the mid to late 1970s, I think. There is no author or copyright listed on it.

I found a transcript from a class I must have taken at some point in time. I honestly don't recall even taking it or who taught it. It's called Christian Counseling and it's about 20 pages long. I haven't had time yet to really look at it in depth. Here, though, is a passage from page nine that displays, in my opinion, how The Way grossly lacked any real understanding of what mental illness is all about. "Where does behavior come from? Can I control my behavior? You better believe I can! If a person is depressed, I will bet you that person's house is absolute chaos. The beds will not be made. There will be clothes all over the floor. The vacuuming will not have been done in a month. The ironing will not have been done. There will be inch thick dust all over everything. Find a depressed person, go over to their house, and you will see it. Are they ever going to get out of that depression? Not until they start acting and get that house straight. You always start with the physical." It's pretty scary to think they passed this stuff off as "counseling" training. Even scarier that I once believed it was valid.

Yes, some wonder what it was all about. But, there are still some who say things like, "Gosh, wasn't it swell, fellas?"

"uhhhh....I better tie this into TWI somehow." Tie it into TWI? I thought the reference to drinking too much was a perfect segue.
