Absolute lunacy. All done for the sake of a black ink entry in the daily sales ledger.

I understand the need to recoup the cost of printing and shipping, etc. But look at it realistically. These cats are 55 million dollars ahead of the curve because of the plan that he set in motion!!!! VP wasn't out to break even. He was out to make a killing. Maybe he could have sold one of those classic cars or vintage motorcycles that he acquired with ABS if times were so tough. All that goobley goop about how WE should be willing to sacrificing everything to move the "Word". Oh, really? Hows about sacrificing an old Harley or Indian or Vincent (or two)? Didn't happen. He used the profits to live a lavish lifestyle, not cover the printing and logistics expenses. The guy surrounded himself with goons and thugs like some kind of Mafia Don. He knew full well his activities were shady.

King Crimson, Spirit, Audience, Traffic, CS&N, Eric Anderson, Nina Simone, Van der Graaf Generator, Ten Wheel Drive, Zepher, Muddy Waters, Electric Flag, Paul Butterfield, Joni Mitchell-------Whew!! etc., etc., etc., etc. Music was a VERY big part of my life before TWI. Those early groups like PDST, Selah, Good Seed and so on, were a real attraction for me. Early on I was told I would need to give up the "devilish" stuff. I never would have done that had there not been some of those early believers' groups to fill the void and somewhat sate my musical appetite. But, as far as satisfying a "spiritual" need, I would have to say "no". They filled a musical void.

I posted this recently on the Mark & Avoid thread. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- I also remember a time (1973 or 1974) when there was a huge push to contact any and all grads who had tripped out and recruit them back into the fold. The goal was to show their names on class attendance sheets.. (I think this may have been some kind of qualifying test for branch leaders who were WC candidates.) In this instance, the branch leaders met with their twig leaders at the weekly twig leader meeting and handed out printed lists of all the people in the area who were PLAF grads but tripped out. This list apparently came from International HQ or, at the very least, Limb HQ. Then, at the monthly branch leaders meeting, the branch leaders were called upon to show how they had increased their active numbers. In reality, it was a convoluted form of artificially inflating sales numbers.

As these events unfold, the world will increasingly become aware of the authenticity of the words in this book and realize that Ronald Weinland has been sent by God as His end-time prophet. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Just what we need, another "authority" who's been "sent by God" as a "prophet".

Maybe they can "believe" their way out of it.

No guesses? (All that's left is the title.)

cheranne The "Read More>>" parts of your post don't link to anything. Is there any way to fix that?

I was in Mr. Blake's 8th grade Earth Science class when the principal's voice came over the P.A. School was dismissed immediately. A group of us walked home together in almost total silence for the entire mile and a half trek. There wasn't much merriment at Thanksgiving that year.

Twinky Yes, they were in our area. We had an open branch meeting every Sunday evening. Attendance was open to anyone.Usually, about 50 to 75 people would show up. A lot of people knew each other from pre-Way days. (high school chums and such) So, sometimes "trip-outs" would come to meetings to reconnect with old friends rather than to "hear The Word". We made a very deliberate effort to protect our newbies from them as they were prone to take the post teaching fellowship conversations into subjects we deemed inappropriate. We told our newbies it was o.k. to associate with them if, and only "if", in doing so, they were actively focusing on bringing them back into the fold. Otherwise, it was not cool to simply "hang out" with them because they would drag you down instead of you pulling them up. I also remember a time (1973 or 1974) when there was a huge push to contact any and all grads who had tripped out and recruit them back into the fold. Then, at the monthly branch leaders meeting, the branch leaders were called upon to show how they had increased their active numbers. In reality, it was a convoluted form of artificially inflating sales numbers. It was nowhere near as vicious as M&A. It does illustrate, however, that the organization (at its core level) was driven by sales goals, not a genuine desire to help people, even back in "the good old days".
