During the British Invasion, particularly the Beatles part, Lennon and McCartney wrote songs for other groups. The song here was given to the group that would be their rivals for many years.
Mick Jagger and Keith Richards saw John and Paul when they had finally gotten a record deal and needed a followup hit to "Come On." They asked them if they had a song that they could record. They did and came down to the studio to demo it with them. The Stones liked it, but it wasn't finished. So while the Stones were talking, John and Paul went to a corner and finished the song.
Mick was amazed that they could do that and said so to Keith. Another song writing team was born.
The song was given to the Stones with the understanding that Ringo would be recording it, but it would not be a single.

He died in an auto accident on his way to see the launch of the space shuttle "Challenger".
Geeze that was really not a good day for aviation, was it?

Interesting about the Beatles writing those songs. I had no idea.
What a lame performance by the "Stones" though. Egads, I was never a fan, but they are really awful on that cut...

That is exactly the reason. Peter Asher of Peter and Gordon had a sister Jane that Paul was seeing for quite some time.
