  1. CC Good question. I haven't honestly looked too closely at this. I think what they were meaning was "lift= relinquish". Still, is that semantically accurate? I mean, we denagraded the "Jesus People" because they used the word "rapture" but felt there was nothing wrong with using such expressions as "believer's meeting" and SOGWAP(son of God with all power) even though they are no where to be found in the Bible. I guess it must have been OK for us to make up stuff that wasn't Biblically founded because we were "The True Household." Ouch!--- I bit my tongue trying to talk while I had it in my cheek. Summary.---TWI can make up expressions and words that are not scriptural because they have a special insight to The Word. All others must subject themselves to scrutany governed by TWI standards.
  2. "Sorry I went on and on."---------LvonB. If you think that was going on and on, you apparently haven't seen MY posts yet!! Welcome to GSC.
  3. Darned if you do, darned if you don't. Now get out there and weed that Swiss chard!! Oops. Sorry. Looks like my believing for sunshine needs some improvement.
  4. Well said, Mo. Sometimes our creativity hasn't really left us at all, it's just gone incognito and resurfaces in another persona. I liked the idea of"killing 2 birds with one stone" also. ILB(I'll Be! ) Yeah, I know what you mean. Lots of times it's not so much about the finished product as it is about the production process.
  5. Remember Dion from the '50s and '60s? On his website, diondimucci.com, you can click on "My Spiritual Journey" and read about how an episode of "My Journey Home" in 1997 led him to the Catholic Church. I know the focus of this thread is not really The Catholic Church but it's still a pretty interesting read for anyone interested in taking a "side trip", especially for those of us who have a fondness for music from the past. ps----My real name is Rumplestiltskin but mum's the word
  6. When I first got "in the Word", I was a working musician/actor(ie: starving) My songwriting was quite prolific at that time. After I was told it was counterproductive to spew negatives, I virtually stopped writing. All these years later, I still haven't gone back to writing but I'm not sure that is because of the Way or because I now channel that energy into the instruments I play and find a creative outlet in improvisation. I have tried a few times to write again but it always seems contrived. Playing, on the other hand, seems to satisfy that craving to be creative.

    Way Music

I left a long time ago so my memories are of the early stuff. (both live at ROA and recorded) Stuff like PDST, Selah, Cookin' Mama, Paul Vergilio, Tom Lepinski, Barry McCoy,Timothy, Hope, Good Seed. Didn't Dave Brubeck play at the ROA one year? I think either he or his daughter had taken the class. There was a group in Cleveland that really kicked some butt too but left when their music was deemed too vague. At least that was the reason I had heard. I think they were called Jubal(like the first musician) All these groups had one thing in common, they were self governing and had room for artistic expression. Don't get me wrong, I think Joyful Noise and Branded , etc. had some great talent. But, it became clear that they were following orders that were being called in from the sidelines. I myself was in a little group as part of the Fellowlaborers program. One night at rehearsal, the limb leader, who didn't have any musical background that I am aware of, criticized the way we held our mics. and showed us the "proper" way to hold a microphone. Kinda ticked me off because I had been in the Musicians Union for about 10 years at that point and was pretty sure I knew the correct way to hold a mic. But, who was I to question a MOG?
  8. The Way Fine Arts And Cultural Center Yeah, I remember that place. I think it was in New Breman. I could be wrong. Seems like I remember it being an old church or something that The Way was renovating to be a showcase for the fine arts. The Fellowlaborers went there when it was first purchased(1977?) to do a weekend work detail. We did the usual scrub floors and wash walls routine and had to sleep on the floor en masse in sleeping bags. (self provided) We did get some free meals which included the TWI staples of familia and apples and Swiss chard supreme ( or something like that). Then we got some big pitch about how if we really wanted to serve God, we needed to get our believing together to find sponsorship and go corps. It kinda reminded me of one of those "free" weekend getaways where you are cornered into listening to a timeshare sales pitch. I don't think the pitch was too successful, though, because by that time we were pretty well burned out on working secular jobs all week and then having to drive for hours on a Friday night to scrub toilets for free all weekend. Then we would get reemed if we didn't "see" how blessed we were to be given the opportunity to be part of such a noble cause. Of course, I did learn that The Way had a special connection to divine, artistic inspiration and that most of what "the world" calls fine art is really devil inspired. Now, where's that "puke" emoticon
  9. Another Spot & Listener The door swings both ways. I have gained a lot of insight reading your posts. Thanks Waysider

It give a whole new meaning to "hammer-on/ Pull-off".
  14. I've Got The Music In Me Don't remember the artist. :(
  15. I have a friend who, years ago, became involved with Young Ljfe. She then left them to become part of one of their splinters.(I won't name it for lack of permission to do so.) This group was very into control. They dictated who you could date, marry, socialize with and even dictated when it was permissible (or not) to have children. The life style was communal and sounded quite similar to a Way home. Sound familiar? They too, were convinced their take on things was the only correct viewpoint. We compare cult notes from time to time and the similarities are just downright creepy. So yeah, there definately are groups beside TWI that sanction an attitude of superiority.
  16. quote: Wasn't "Go Now" Written by "Ozzie Osbourne" I did some snooping on this. It seems it was written by a guy named Larry Banks and recorded/ released by his wife, Bessie Banks in 1964. I never heard of either of them until now. The Oz man did it on an album of covers that included such unlikely picks as "Mississippi Queen". We return you now to the regularly scheduled programming.

The Bay Area-----Home of "The Blues Harmonica Blowout" every March (brainchild of Mark Hummel) 15+ years and still going strong Too late for this year but there is always a CD for historic purposes. The best of the best show up for this one. And not just the harp players either, plenty of geetar top guns. Hey! Isn't Tommy Castro from The Bay Area? Don't suppose he stays at "home" too much these days.
  18. Karmicdebt There is a very large GLBT community in the Columbus, Ohio area. Beautiful historic homes on quaint brick streets, art galleries, terrific restaurants, and a vibrant night life. Still, the crime rate is deceptively appalling. Why? I haven't the slightest clue. Point being, if you visited this area you would probably be impressed with its outward appearance. Behind the facade, however, hides a completely different world. I'll bet WG knows exactly where I'm talking about because it is not too far from her former employer.
  19. WG Would that restaurant happen to be Buns', where the motto is "Dine here, diet at home"? Never cared much for Delaware myself but then my experience was tempered by the Fellowlaborer program. Used to be it was a 20 minute trip to Columbus. What is it today, about a day and a half? I live on the far east side now and the area is very ethnically and racially diverse. The adults seem to have adapted well to the mix as have the younger kids. Tensions at the high school level, though, are running at an all time high. Part of that (IMO) is due to the new dress code that was to HELP the problem. (The overcrowding doesn't help either.) The dress code is not universally enforced for fear that doing so might be viewed as racial bias. This isn't a problem the kids created but they know how to play the system. We used to have a really low crime rate until Wal-Smart decided to build right beside the interstate. There is a direct correlation that can be seen here by simply looking at statistics and ignoring any personal bias that might taint the facts. Anybody else experienced this phenomenon? Now about the French. It wouldn't matter if you spoke the language perfectly, They would still hold you in contempt simply because you are American. edited to add a word-----Oh, no! that's one of the dreaded downfall steps!
  20. T-Bone "Oh, Luuuuuucy! How did your S-Ray go today?" :B)
  21. What!!!? No takers? It's "Go Now"-----------The Moody Blues Freebie!----Freebie!-----Freebie! Anybody?
  22. Well, we are talking about the Advanced Class, after all. Wasn't the main topic discerning of spurts?
  23. Dot I'm sorry if my Yellow Brick Road post seemed insensitive. I know what you are going through can be frustrating and I was just trying to add a little humour. Guess I better keep my day job and forget about the stand-up circuit.
