  1. you got it, Quick Draw! Here's a cool live version.... Stevie and Ray Charles.... they both still got it!
  2. Last Trip to Tulsa Neil Young good one, WW Tom, don't know if "Last Trip to Tulsa" got much airplay, but it was definitely on my playlist, and all my friends' in what? '72? His sisters black but she is shonuff pretty Her skirt is short but lord her legs are sturdy To walk to school shes got to get up early Her clothes are old but never are they dirty
  3. In that vein, ladies and gentlemen................ Etta James I once heard an interview with Joni Mitchell where she said this song was being used on a commercial on TV.... I think she was doing something else with the TV on, but then she heard Etta hit what she called "the God note," and it drew her attention. Nice touch with the old movie footage.... I'd love to see it done with "Sense and Sensibility."
  4. And rightly so. Everly Bros. Great sound quality and harmony. Is that a Shure SM-58?
  5. Polar: That song is amazing... one of my all-time favorites. The dynamics, harmony, execution, are magic. Listening to it now, I noticed the vid clips a section from the original recording... too bad! It's a masterpiece! Thanks for posting! RG.... great selection! Loved "Nashville Cats" === beautiful! And the amazing fiddle player. JT is ALWAYS nice... saw him live a couple of years back in Hershey, PA and he was great, and brought some kick-azz musicians with him. Good stuff Hey, Bear: The first vid works now! Nice version... not as good as the original, but a treat to see it "live".
  6. Bramble and Bolshevic, I've enjoyed your posts -- at least parts of them! And you too, Sky I mentioned earlier that I thought that Dawkins was a powerful voice in the human conversation right now. I think he deserves to be heard. I disagree with him, of course, but he does raise important issues, and a few well-placed pokes-in-the-eye with a sharp stick. He makes money off this book, and enjoys a good deal of notoriety. I think he deserves it. He's smart and eloquent, which is what his job at Oxford requires. And he doesn't just bash "God" and God-believers. He explains science to the common man, in the tradition of Sagan and Stephen Hawking. As a Christian, I do not feel threatened by the discussion. It's good for all of us. If the thread has run its course, so be it. There's more to discuss!
  7. He is and was a great guy, and he's doing fine. Went to "a real school" (his words) after he left the Way, and is doing well in career and personal life. Haven't had much contact with him, but I think he's still as much fun as he was in the "old days."
  8. I'm fairly well informed, having been a part of the thread that Paw mentioned, and things really did get out of hand. I appreciated Larry, and I too "want him back," but I think he should recognize why his behavior has become subject to moderation. Another person that had run-ins with moderators was "Mike," a unique case, I admit, but it seems that he's worked things out, and knows his boundries. I have to go with Paw on this one. Terms of use are very reasonable and necessary. Many sites don't have the manpower to pay attention to the sites, and they become burdened with all kinds of trash. This site is well managed and overseen. Larry, if you don't yet see why you came to the attention of the moderators, or think it's unfair, I suggest you re-read the thread in question, and note how often and with what character your posts were on that thread, and listen to how folks responded to you in that thread. As Rainbowsgirl said, at times you were not treated fairly. That's the nature of all discussion groups, but there are lines that should not be crossed. If you're not willing to admit or are unable to see that you're not the "victim" here, then I'd suggest taking another time out. If you are, then I'd be the first to vote for full reinstatement.
  9. PB, unfortunately, when I click play, it says the vid is no longer available! :( glad you liked Smokey. so smooth... love the acapella first verse... don't need nothin' else Y'all are so cool. Thanks for all the sharings.... I'm enjoying them all!
  10. My answer, of course, is: Maybe it's we who are short-sighted.
  11. I'm thinking "And you know that notion's just crossed my mind" Grateful Dead, but I don't know the title, and I'm not sure I've got the right song anyway.
  12. nice guy / gentle soul yeah, I get that a lot! My view is "of course I need Him." By Him all things consist. Worship comes out of recognizing that. Giving obeisance or obedience only comes out of that. Giving obeisance to a god "to get" (i.e. nothing or something is "going to come of it") is as useless with the God I know as it is with any other gods. As sincere as I was in TWI, that thinking crept in unawares. And it's human nature: we want to manipulate God, control Him. TWI was great at this: understand God (and His "promises") and you can control Him.... make demands upon Him. As you said, hardly the way one should regard the most powerful being in the universe. "Demand payment." Mountaintop checkbook. Likewise with worship. Doing it in self-interest is a little backwards. But in the sense of "what good is it to acknowledge God?", I think Dawkins' view is mine as well, only I believe: it's respecting things as they really are. It's being honest. Denying reality, no matter how it makes us feel, is just not an option for Dawkins or for me.
  13. Bolshevic, Marx, for example, wanted to wipe out religion. In his view, and I think Stalin's, religion would die of itself anyway, but why not hasten the process? Stamp it out. Many "enlightenment" and post-enlightenment thinkers would not have dreamed that religion would be such a big deal in the 21st century.
  14. I say that's Bolshevic. Lots of people have predicted that and have been wrong. Not that I'm happy about that. I'd like "religion" to end in some sense. Regardless of trends, I believe the resurrection of Jesus Christ ensures that what atheists call "religion" will survive. The anvil wears the hammers out, you know.
  15. I might have, but I was just trippin' on it
  16. another visit to the old neighborhood tuesday afternoon live, 1970, indoors with smokers nights in white satin live, 1970 or '69, probably Isle of Wight, outdoors (with smokers, undoubtably!)
  17. Very good Tom! YOU'RE UP! the title, officially is one of those parenthisized ones: Just Dropped In (to see what condition my condition was in) Here's the original, with two mods having fun lipping it: This was Kenny before he went "mainstream." Or what it? Tripping was mainstream when he recorded this! ate the brown acid, eh, Tom?
  18. All of us are, I suppose, to some degree. I admit it personally. But how do you view George as being so? Because he's bound by the straw picture of God from the Way Ministry? If you're going to make an "observation" like that, you probably should be more clear. Oak saw it as an insult; I saw it as an incomplete thought, and perhaps a bit judgmental. Care to explain?
