But Tom, that only happens during pitching changes and in between innings. Other things make games take longer. Most often, the pitchers' rhythms. Some times a pitcher will get the ball back from the catcher or umpire and throw the next pitch within 5-10 seconds. But some pitchers take more than half a minute just thinking about it before putting his foot on the rubber to go into his wind up or pitch from the stretch. In a 10 pitch at bat, for example, that might mean a difference of 5 or more minutes per batter. And, of course, some batters work the count more patiently than others. This evening, the Yankee starter had a 6 pitch inning. Why so many first pitch swingers, I don't know.

Well... the Dbacks/Yankers series, set to start a few minutes ago, is off to a rapidly SLOW start... because they did NOT start (it's raining in the Bronx). So, who knows, maybe they'll play a doubleheader tomorrow... or be playing until 4am tonight/tomorrow.

The last name's BALBOA, there friend! Yes, the Dbacks salvage a win against the best team in MLB thus far this year. I believe I (sorta) predicted the series would go 2-1 in favor of the Sox. I believe the "prediction" went something like this: The Dbacks will be lucky to win ONE game against the Red Sox. (that's why I said, 'sorta') And yes, I was watching. Both starters get a decision. For the Big Unit, it's win number 284 in his career. I understand that the Dbacks remain tied with San Diego for first place in the NL West. Obviously, the BoSox still have a huge lead in the AL East. Both starting pitchers lived up to their reputations. Both pitched very well. Now the Dbacks go on a mission to assist your Red Sox in their title quest. It's on to the Big Apple.

A former Dback, Luis Terrero (I think that's his name, he was pretty much forgettable) fell for the hidden ball trick, I think it may have been in the VERY forgettable 2004 season. That pretty much ended his chances of making much of a career here in the desert... it wouldn't have, however, if he had been better all around. On the BoSox fans in Phoenix... I don't know about 2/3, but there are a healthy number of locals here from New England and retain loyalty to the Sox (a couple of other teams enjoy similar groups, particularly the Cubs and the Mets), AND apparently... as was noted on the local TV broadcast (in HDTV!) last night (by Daren Sutton (Don Sutton's son) and Joe Garagiola SR, who fills in on weekends at home when Mark Grace is out of town on assignment for Saturday Fox broadcasts) that there appeared to be plenty of Sox fans that made the trip, in part because they can't get tickets at Fenway, due to it always being sold out. Last night, it looked like Stephen Drew was going to turn the tables on big brother JD... Dbacks led much of the game... but Sox tied it in the 8th and won on a sacfly in the 10th... the younger Drew hit a 2 run HR over JD in right field. Dbacks rookie starter Micah Owings threw a very good game... the bullpen couldn't hold it. Owings is going to be a star, if he stays healthy (not that he would be prone to injuries, any more than anyone else... it's just that every pitcher has that risk). He has the makings of a long and dominant pitching career. Last year, Owings was undefeated at AAA Tucson and pitched the AAA championship game (and won)... And I DO expect a good game today. For the last month, Johnson's been good for 6 solid innings. As long as he doesn't over extend himself, he'll likely do well against the Sox.

Indeed, Mr. McCarver IS related to one lovely former corpse member turned GREASESPOTTER... but I would be indiscreet to reveal the identity of that member of our online fellowsheep! (as she previously did ask me to maintain that discretion... but she is NOT from the 9th). I also would be anticipating (my guess) a bigger baby, perhaps as much as 8lbs... for lovely Lisa. Rhino.... Haven't been in contact with Mr. Z for a while now, but we do touch bases semi-regularly as well as pondering the virtues of America's Pasttime while watching the Boys of Summer in the air conditioned Chase Field in downtown Phoenix. Ah, yes LightBearers the sequel was a delightful time for me in Springfield IL, Honest Abe's stompin grounds before becoming the first republican elected president of the US... However, I had to forego the witnessing on this fine summer evening, in favor of doing a word study and delivering a 10 minute teaching on the Way Tree to the mesquite tree which has auxano'd well enough to provide tremendous shade on my home from the intense afternoon rays of sunshine here in the Valley of the Sun. I am, however, most thankful that you have joined our koinonia (fellowship) here at the ol' GreaseSpot Cafe.

JD finishes the night 3-5, 2 HR, one double, and a career high 7 RBIs in the game. Not sure why, but he is incredibly comfortable playing against the Dbacks.... and this goes back to before his brother became the Dbacks SS.

btw, THIS sports fan had a good Thursday... had the left eye fixed... I NOW can see 20-20 in both eyes (looking far... then there's that #$^&* 40-plus issue with reading... so, having obtained reading glasses last night, I now can say that ONCE I was (nearly, sorta) blind, but NOW I see! You're probably correct... but playing devil's advocate for a brief moment... it ALL was a bit of THEATER... not just because of the Hilton dramatics, but IF she was going to make her case about a "nervous breakdown" it would have been even harder to do so if she had cleaned up properly. Even so, it didn't work.

What'd I tell you guys about JD against the Dbacks...? Well, he's in the lineup and hit a HR... it's now 4-0 Sox.

Well... just had first pitch, Davis to Lugo, at Chase Field at the marquee match up series of the weekend... BoSox visit the Snakes. Lugo launched a 3-2 cutter for his 4th HR of the season. Sox 1 Dbacks not yet batted.

Oh, I figure that right now she doesn't like it... but AFTER the 45 days are over, she'll surely exploit it. She's screaming because nobody has ever had the balls to tell her "NO" before. As a child, how much ya wanna bet she got whatever she wanted just by throwing a tantrum. And I'D bet that judge figures the exact same thing. Which is why 45 days should be enough to get her freakin attention. On THAT point, I saw where FOX NOISE's John Gibson actually said that Al Sharpton got it right! Sharpton, who's always quick to point out racism whereever there's the least bit of a hint of it, rightly pointed out that no young black woman, age 25 and in the pokie for DUI/parole violation would EVER be let out after just THREE days. Well, of course no young black woman would... unless she's rich like Paris.
