  1. Thanks so much. It was my first birthday in 43 years without Fred. I was kinda lost. Haven't even been over here. I got a new job that is pretty wonderful, but it's especially tiring because it involves a daily 82 mile round trip. But it pays more than the auto expenses (so far), and it's a blessing for this old girl who became totally deaf to find a job. God is so kind because working keeps me communicating with people, which keeps me looking to God most sincerely. Thanks, again, for your kindness and care and concern. I don't know where I'd be without it.
  2. Watchman Nee devotional for today had a note about forgiveness, and it impacted me that because I know my whole life, to the essence of me is only because of the Lord Jesus, forgiving others is no problem. I truly think that "forgive them father for they know not what they do" applies to everyone. Many people are spiritually deaf. My physical ears have quit working. I just don't hear a thing anymore. And I think people who can't hear the Lord are like that spiritually. They just don't get what He is saying at all. And therefore their words are not relatable to what the Lord is saying in the world because they don't hear. They really don't know what they are doing at all. I have touched the hem of His garment and know His forgiveness which put a softness inside me.
  3. Pot lucks at church are nicer now, too. more kindness and encouraging others . So very nice. Same type of thing with birthday cards, welcome cards, get well cards . . . . At work now sent around with kindness, the admin assist hunts them up and keeps track of them, but not filled with shallow exhortations to "do the Word" or "hold the Word high" that no one really understands what the words mean. At work now only happiness and fellowship of friends wished and encouraged. So glad to have gotten my life back. So glad God was kind enough to give us our lives back.

  5. From the Song of Soloman 6:11: "11I went down into the garden of nuts to see the fruits of the valley. .." Being from the Bay Area of California and a San Francisco Beatnik, I thought it nothing strange that God cared about the fruits and nuts of the world (such as myself). It was easy to believe (and I still do believe) that "love conquers all," which I thought (and still think) that the Lord sends us forth to do. twi, of course, when vp traded his life for a mess of pottage, relinquished the Holy Spirit, the power of the Name of Jesus and His precious Blood, without which no one can ever be the promised "more than conquerors" or even lift a sword in the spiritual battle which rages.
  6. I'm excited for the Super Bowl, which will combine a favorite home city (San Francisco) and current home city (Reno, UNR, Kaepernick) In honor of which: Her is a time-honored recipe Buffalo Wings For residents of Buffalo, New York, true Buffalo wings come only from Frank and Teressa's Anchor Bar, where owner Teressa Bellissimo invented the dish in 1964. There, wings are fried, then tossed in a combination of melted margarine and hot sauce. Today, the Anchor Bar serves 2,000 pounds of wings each day. INGREDIENTS; Peanut oil, for frying 4 lb. chicken wings (about 40), separated into 2 pieces, wing tips removed, rinsed 12 tbsp. margarine 1 cup hot sauce, preferably Frank's Red Hot Original Cayenne Pepper Sauce 1 ⅓ cups chunky blue cheese dressing 4 ribs celery, halved lengthwise, then cut crosswise into 3″ sticks INSTRUCTIONS; 1. Heat oven to 200°. Pour oil to a depth of 2″ in a 6-qt. Dutch oven, and heat over medium heat until a deep-fry thermometer reads 350°. Dry wings thoroughly with paper towels, and working in batches, fry wings until golden brown, about 12 minutes. Transfer wings to a wire rack set over a baking sheet, and place in oven to keep warm until all wings are fried. 2. Heat margarine in a 12″ deep-sided skillet over medium heat; stir in hot sauce until smooth. Add wings, and toss until completely coated. Serve wings in a large bowl with dressing and celery on the side. SERVES 4...maybe 2 if I'm there...love chicken wings!!!
  7. These instructions to post a video do not work any more. Current Instructions???
  8. So thankful for these people who write what's right. Also for Greasespot Cafe having an open place for people to write and read true experiences, true confessions. God is so kind to have these places in place. Thanks, again Pawtucket, Karl, Kristen Skedgell, Catcup, ExCathedra, and so many others: Many thanks for helping God save me.
  9. Fireworks display Quote of note: "Other planets may not be able to support life, but it isn't easy on this one either." Happy New Year! I write down my goals for the year, put it in an envelope and put the envelope in my Bible with the date. Then open it at the end of the year to see how I did. (If you have "other" options that you would like added to the poll, let me know within the edit timeframe, I will be happy to add them to the poll.)
  10. We (well Fred isn'there any more but I am still thinking "we" especially in Bible things) have used QuickVerse since the 1980's when it first came out on one little 3"x3" disk. QuickVerse was created by Parsons Technology that had a great Church Membership program as well as Quicken and QuickBooks. Of course Bob Parson has gone on to other things and sold off the programs but QuickVerse is still my standby because it's like a comfortable shoe to me that helps me walk into God's living room. I also got Logos because I wanted to try one of the fancier versions when I was flush, and have had it a couple of years, and it's pretty fancy with a lot of stuff, but I am working at it and getting comfortable with it. It's pretty nice. I still use the hardcopy of my first Young's Concordance that I love to pull out. Just fingering it brings me within earshot of the Holy Spirit. When at work especially I am so very thankfful for the online Bible sites such as biblegateway.com and blueletterbible.com, which make it possible to find a verse I need during the work day without taking too much time from what I am being paid to do. The Blueletterbible.com I think is one of the originals and has been developing for all these years, so it's pretty deep in the spirit. Also it's one of the few that has kjv as its default version, which I especially like. There have been other threads discussing this subject Online free Bible software and online Bible on PC and Online Bible study tools and Bible software and Dictionaries and other resources and How many QuickVerse users out there are the ones I could find.
  11. Walmart here had some Hostess fruitcake. Not as good as the fruitcake from Georgia, but ok. (I love fruitcake). I saw that the sale was moving along, and that the bakeries were part of the sale.
  12. Thanks, Ron. Good instructions although I love fruitcake. I sure wish driving around looking at Christmas tree lights, wrapping presents, and putting up Christmas decorations was more exercise intense. Merry Christmas and happy new year.
  13. This was first Christmas in 43 years without Fred and was pretty tough. But God... I was offered and accepted a job!!!! (been out of work for 6 months and my unemployment will be exhausted). What a Christmas present that was -- not as precious as being with son and his family, but still pretty wonderful. It's a 90 mile round trip and the first job since I went totally deaf, so it will be a challenge, but if I can do it for 6 months I can transfer to a job closer to home. I am so thankful to be able to keep working. It's been an awesome vacation of rest and recuperation. (I certainly won't have the time to be stopping by Greasespot Cafe so much.
  14. Merry Christmas. I received this devotional today and was reminded how God was able to get a bunch of rag tag people to bow down before His Son when we signed up for PFAL and thereafter did our utmost for His highest to live for the Lord Jesus and show Him forth: for which I will ever be thankful.
  15. I knew that there was room at the cross for me even though I came from berserkely of Cslifornia because a friend pointed out that Jesus said, "11I went down into the garden of nuts to see the fruits of the valley." :)/>
  16. Been reading some of the treasures here on Greasespot. This was a funny one I thought you would like (and from a precious person who is laughing at us from heaven I think).
  17. If you have run out of ways to give kindness, here are some suggestions from an online friend. (I find giving is always a good antidote to self-pity, which so easily creeps in during holiday times which for so many different reasons are not filled with the kind kind of affection of other years' celebrations) A card or letter send at any time would be appreciated I'm sure.:
  18. Well here we are 12/21/12. . . and still here. . .
  19. Wish there was option for more than one response. I've had multiple bad experiences from hitch hiking, but then also a couple of notable ones where I was witnessed to. One great conversation I had, after taking pfal, was with a guy and we were both discussing our "Great Boss" and we were both discussing the Lord Jesus. That was really nice.
  20. Bringing this to the top for some additional reading regarding forgiveness. Also some of these precious posters have passed away, and I was reminded again of how short is our life.
  21. KJV because that's where I spent so much time with the Lord. Being hard of hearing and now deaf, I don't do too much chatting about the Bible, but most of my time is spent just reading the stuff, so that's where the Lord could meet me most easily. Also the KJV has so many figures of speech which truly are a hotline to the heart of the Lord. I also love the dedication to the KJV which speaks of such reverence and awe for God Almighty, the Lord Jesus, and trust and rest upon the Comfort and guidance of the Holy Spirit. The KJB movie made me cry. The Message: Love it, love how it was created -- Eugene Peterson was a youth pastor, and The Message version came out of his working to translate the Bible into words his kids could understand. Also this version retains many of the figures of speech which highlight God's true heart on the matter.
