  1. Ranchers Can Shoot Wolves That Kill Cattle BOISE -- A rancher in remote central Idaho shot a wolf he said was harassing his cattle, marking the first time one of the federally protected predators has been killed under new guidelines that took effect in February. The rancher near Mackay shot the female gray wolf Sunday at 11 p.m. He watched it and another, larger wolf chasing his cattle, the rancher told officials. The other wolf escaped. Under the new rule that affects Idaho and Montana, people can now shoot wolves that pursue their livestock. Before, the rancher would have been forced to wait until a wolf had actually bitten one of his cows. That change marked a first step in returning control of wolf populations to states and private landowners, who say they need it to limit depredation of livestock, domestic animals and wild game herds as wolf numbers steadily rise. Federal officials have already determined the rancher acted appropriately. Wolf advocacy groups are reserving judgment pending an investigation. "Under the new rule, the rancher was authorized to shoot the wolf," said Mark Collinge, director of the federal Wildlife Services Idaho office, which monitors predators preying on livestock in the state. He said it was the first under the new rule. This is the third wolf killed legally in Idaho this year. Officers from Collinge's agency killed two in February after reports they'd preyed on cattle -- killings that also would have been allowed under the old rules. In 2004, Wildlife Services agents killed 17 wolves in Idaho, the most in any year since they were reintroduced to the region in 1995. Meanwhile, wolf numbers in Idaho are expected to surpass 450 this year. The state's remote wilderness areas have made for ideal breeding grounds. In Sunday's incident, officials declined to give the rancher's name or exact location, fearing it could cause retribution on an issue that has polarized wolf advocates and critics. Wildlife Services officials were on the scene Monday. The dead wolf may have been a part of the nine-member Copper Basin pack, or may have split off from that group. Authorities plan to investigate the animal's stomach to learn of recent meals. It'll also be examined for signs of breeding. Federal officials described the events that preceded the shooting, saying the rancher called them Thursday to report that wolves caused his herd of cattle to stampede. One calf was trampled to death, he told them. The rancher wanted to know his rights under the new rule, which brings Idaho and Montana closer to the level of management they will enjoy when wolves are delisted under the Endangered Species Act. The federal government is waiting until a legal dispute is resolved in neighboring Wyoming before the wolf is delisted. When the wolves returned to the property Sunday, officials say the rancher was ready. "It appears the system has worked correctly and as we hoped it would," said Carter Niemeyer, the wolf recovery coordinator for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in Boise. It is great a rancher can now protect his cattle from wolves. I guess the guy who called the wardens to come and trap the wolve, only to see them release it, wasn't aware of the law or afraid to try it out.
  2. Maybe just a hunch on their part or they post on Greasespot.
  3. EXACTLY!! If a pack of dogs kills a rancher's cattle they destroy them. But if a wolf decides to grab an easy meal they do nothing.
  4. This reintroduction of the wolf in Montana has got its apponents quiet upset. If a wolf kills a ranchers live stock there is nothing they can do about the situation. Wolf Released After Being Trapped AVON — Last weekend, Tim Quigley found a calf that had been attacked by a wolf in his pasture, less than a half-mile from his house. When the calf died a few days later, it was the second confirmed wolf kill in 10 days; neighboring rancher Earl Stucky had a calf killed in a pasture less than a quarter mile from his home last week. State and federal officials approved setting a trap. On Tuesday morning, it held a wolf. A few hours later, Quigley watched in disbelief as the trap was opened and the wolf was set free. "That's pretty damn frustrating for the ranchers," Quigley said. "The wolves come in, get my calf, we catch it and they turn it loose. Watching it lope across my meadow, knowing it's going to be back among my cattle — I'm kind of a quiet guy, but this really gets me going."
  5. As equipment improves a person can jump higher, throw further, run faster, and hit harder. This is allowed when breaking records. I believe the same should be true of what is put in the body. To my knowledge there were no rules against taking steroids at the time. What if they were not harmful and had no side effects, would it be okay to use them then?

  7. P-Mosh has provided us with a rare but very honest inside look at a liberal. Oh yes, very sweet on the outside; help this person, take money from the rich sob's to pay for the poor people, so sweet and sugar coated. But when the chips are down their true nature comes out. ALWAYS looking out for themselves. Take Rosie O'Donnell as an example. She takes Tom Selleck a part on her talk show because he supports the NRA and the right of individals to own firearms for self protection. She claims she wants all guns removed from society. BUT when it comes time to hire a body guard for her children she gets one who carries a weapon. After all her kids are special I guess and deserve to be protected with a gun. I wouldn't trust a liberal as far as I can throw them. So sweet and sticky on the outside but no gooey caramel center on the inside.
  8. In additional to the list on the link our local Civil Defense has been teaming up with the Mormon Church here in an effort to teach people how to survive for a period of time like this. Anyone could drop in at the church and get pointers on how to be prepared for a stretch of time without food or water. The Mormons really have this down as they are requird to store food and water to last a year. The local church made it available for anyone to purchase kits they had assembled. The Mormons were very helpful and eager to share their experiences. One thing that was stressed is you have to be practical about your abilities and likes. If you are not a baker don't store large amounts of grain to make breads and cereals. If you like meat there are freezers that operate both with electricity and gas in case one or the other is out. Foods like the militaries MRE's are available. Store large quantites of water in used pop containers. Everytime I go to the grocery store I buy extra canned goods for an emergency. My supply is getting quite large now so I could survive for sometime.
  9. I was able to sit right away just from reading the holy spirit book, but my twig guy didn't want me to intrepret at twig until compeleting piffle for some reason. I had no trouble with intrepretating but grew tired of it after awhile as it was the same all the time. I was always so concerned the intrepretation was never longer than the tongue and it was in the correct tense and all that garbage. Took the fun out of it.
  10. In the 90's my wife (at the time) and I didn't know what to say or not to say around our LC's. We were supposed to be checking in everyday and letting them know what us and our daughter were doing, with whom, etc. The first thing learned was not to ask any questions, just "yes sir and no sir". My wife was offered a job in a different city and decided to take it. Of course accepting it was a big mistake because we hadn't 'cleared' it with the LC's first...we were needed in our present city more than in the one we were moving to. After they sorta got over that they were ....ed because we had hired a guy in our twig to move us. Her new firm was willing to pay for our move and this guy was out of work, so we decided to hire him. WRONG!! According to the LC's, the household worked together to bless one another, and didn't charge for it. So we hired a professional moving company. After that we didn't know what to say to whom, so we kept quiet as much as possible so as not to upset the apple cart.
  11. If someone posts on Greasespot and it gets misinterpreted I have seen it called a lie. I think a better way to handle it would be to correct the person who misinterpeted what you said before calling them a liar.
  12. Dolly's Creator Moving Ahead With Research I believe this is a wonderful thing. Imagine taking diseased or damaged body parts, regrowing, and making them new again.
  13. Never been called, just lucky I guess. In Montana names are drawn from those registered to vote. I have not missed many elections.
  14. Work some of the 'krinkles and ridges' out and he will be just fine.
  15. "Well, I BELIEVE that twi had a rapist on the payroll and the entire bot knew it..." As Pawtucket pointed out TWI used their power to influence and coerce Adults not children.
  16. "There is virtually no way the catholic church can be bankrupted....." Tucson and Portland Diocese's have filed because of the sexual abuse payments.
  17. "I see adults all over the place wanting to be a teen again or still wishing to be part of the cool group, to bad because this is the time the most discipline and guidance is needed. We learn to be adults by making choices that is good for a community outside of our own protective families. That is what these girls learned, simply enough, if these girls where shot or hurt in some way I wonder if you would scream the home owner was wrong for defending her property, esp. if they were there for less than honorable reasons." Hap said they rang the door bell and left so how could they have ever been shot? What does "adults all over the place wanting to be a teen again or still wishing to be part of the cool group.....,". What does this statement have to do with the situation of these two girls? Are you inferring their parents were 'part of the problem'? This sounds to me like a money hungary woman and her lawyer wanting to line their pockets.
  18. Provides a whole new meaning to "cork it" buddy.
  19. Hogwash....our children's lives are to precious to worry about someone who can't spell for heavens sakes. It has been done in the U.S. for some time now and I haven't heard of any doctors being attached. At least we know where these preditors live and can protect our kids from them. This coming from the same England which believes a burglar has the right to expect he will not be shot while breaking into your home. Some residents of the country are questioning the absurdity of this belief and once again want the right to arm and protect themselves, their family, and property. God save the Queen.
  20. I hope the community is great at holding grudges and using this woman as an example of what being a money hungery person is all about.
  21. And Ermal puffing on his pipe saying, "Pappy was talkin' to him about the storm comin' in, and you better get the Corp inside before they get drenched". Course there were storm clouds all around.
  22. "Some just close their ears and eyes because it's easier to continue on status quo existing and believing what they're told to believe rather than face facts and have to deal with them. It's too painful to admit that something that you loved and trusted in wasn't what you thought it was at all." This is why I stayed way too long.....the ONLY belief and support system I had was TWI's. How could I admit it was wrong and survive? I knew there was no one in the Way I could turn to if I left....I would be immediately shunned. I made no 'unbeliever' friends in my new area, because I didn't want to be "unequally yoked together with them." Leadership would have stopped it anyway......had to account for every hour of the day to them. And then there was the dreaded 'greasespot by midnight' of LCM's hanging over my head. And to be honest I probably never would have left, but, thankfully, they 'marked and avoided' me so I had no choice. The first months were absolute hell for me. The constant condemnation for leaving 'God's Ministry', letting the 'household' down, and waiting for God to 'zap' me, was almost unbearable. As time went on I noticed I was waking up each morning and not dead, no fatal diseases had taken me over, I was holding my head up much more, and I felt like my life was slowly once again becoming mine. I have never looked back since then. Greasespot Cafe was such a termednous part of my recovery.....I can't imagine what it would have been like not seeing ex wayfers posting the exact same things I was thinking and going through. No doubt I would have made it but who knows how much longer it would have taken figuring things out myself. I have said this many times before but I want to thank Pawtucket from the bottom of my heart for having this web site available.
  23. 'Braveheart' Becomes Role Model for Christian Men Men should become less passive and "engage" those around them, particularly their wives and children.
  24. Hey P-Mosh.......substitute the word 'liberal' for 'Oklahoma' in all your posts on this thread and you will have a bird's eye view of yourself. "The people are generally lazy, rude, and a lot more ignorant than I am." Pretty much sums up the liberal thought process. Now back to the topic.....................
