  1. I was aware of all the bruhaha surrounding that paper. People even got in trouble is if it was mailed to them. I read it. It was simply a well done logical research paper. Those who overreacted were incriminating themselves.
  2. i remember how we had to laugh at the jokes. Jokes we'd heard over and over and weren't that funny to begin with.
  3. Actually it was more than 10% or God wouldn't spit in our direction.
  4. Thanks for the back-story. Reminds me of Lynne, Dubofsky etc. and the 26 (?) page letter except like 20 years or so later. They also tried to fix it from within and were ousted.
  5. Just saw a movie which I accessed through Youtube called "Holy Hell." I think you have to pay for it, but it also is about a cult and people in it and people that left it. Just one of many many stories of cult members and how they left. Now that I'm out of TWI, I can see so many similarities among ex-TWI and other ex-cult members. Leah Remani's series on Scientology is also excellent. And documentaries about Heaven's Gate. on and on. We are not alone.
  6. Reminds me of when I left TWI and was in the process of what I call my self-deprogramming, I would hear Craig's voice in my head. When I would think an anti-way thought, there was Craig in my head yelling the opposite. Eventually the yelling went away.
  7. As for Revival and Restoration - What took them so long?
  8. What is to become of the millions TWI has upon it inevitable demise?
  9. Looks like the guy in the forefront is nodding off.
  10. We were taught that "in Christ" meant "in fellowship". Therefore the verse "there is therefore now no condemnation to them that are in Christ Jesus" became conditional. The implication was that if you weren't "in fellowship" you were under condemnation. I was always asking God's forgiveness for sins real or imagined in order to assure I was in the magical state of "in fellowship".
  11. Love those vending machines in the background! Insert believing, out pops whatever you want.
  12. Read Kris Skedgell's book "Losing the Way" if there is any doubt about what VPW was up to with women in The Way. That along with all the testimonies of woman after woman....
  13. I remember that Advanced class at San Diego State. I was a local and had to help with the physical set-up. I was in charge of furnishing the prayer room and we transported our own couch from our home to put in it and then was told it wasn't acceptable and had to haul it back out. I also remember how the dorm rooms were furnished for the Big Wigs to look like apartments. The rest of us stayed in the dorm rooms that were furnished like dorm rooms . i guess it was just beneath our superiors to lower themselves to spend a few days in a regularly furnished dorm room. It was then that I saw the inequalities between upper leadership and us regular peon believers. Some people in way homes were moved out to forfeit their room to people who were more important then them. Where they went was their problem. An of course the recipients of these benefits had no gratitude, just a sense of entitlement. Took me 9 more years until I finally left.
  14. One of the most liberating things when I left TWI was the realization the Sh1t Happens.
  15. I gave them money when I hardly had any to give.
  16. Wordwolf - "Hail to the Chief"??!! wow, don't recall that but that's messed up.
  17. Stick around here and you can learn from people that have been in The Way and their experiences. Some good but also bad. Your romantic interest probably feels obligated to make you into a Wayfer in order to make your relationship acceptable to her friends and family. Otherwise, he or she will not want to commit themselves to you. Just my two cents. We Wayfers were always to to "put God first" which really meant put The Way first. Which means anyone or anything that interferes with total devotion to the "household" is not acceptable. Good luck. The best you can hope for is that he or she decides to defect. Could happen but likely not. This reminds me of when I was in The Way, i was in a relationship with a non-Way person. I wouldn't let myself commit to him because he wasn't in TWI. He would make one-liner comments that made a lot of sense. I regret now that I didn't leave then.
  18. After I left TWI, I realized my pre-TWI life was just as valid as during TWI. As posted above, we were taught to disavow our previous life as "old man" etc. i came to see my life a single thread, not a before and after. I reclaimed my previous life. I made a pie chart of my life with time in TWI highlighted. It's about a fifth of the pie and this point. As time goes by, the TWI section gets smaller and smaller....
  19. I think it was pretty heartless treatment of his wife to make her leave her newborn baby behind. I realized that after I became a mother.
  20. Didn't JN have an album "Wake Up America"? Remember we listened to it all the time when I was on the field as a Fellow Laborer in California in 1976.
  21. This is an old thread. I was thinking of B G Leonard for some reason and I remembered reading about the incident below when he was at The Rock in 1985. I remember him being there but didn’t get to see him personally. But what I wanted to mention about his visit is how Martindale blew up about Corps flocking to BG. Obviously he was jealous of the attention B G was taking from him. Anyway I just found a book that I downloaded into my Kindle about B G by Phyllis Tryon, published by Steve Sann. Entitled Show Me the Miracles: The Life of B. G Leonard. I was looking for Gifts of the Spirit but couldn’t find it. His ministry still runs his class and I’d love to take it. Just started the book about his life. And to think we elevated Wierwille over this guy. The more I read books by different scholars and seek out teachings I realize we were like hamsters on the wheel of PFAL over and over again. A research ministry? I think not.
  22. And at PFAL class an actually new unused styrofoam cup would have been nice.
