From what I remember, they used to extract verse 3 out of I Thessalonians, chapter 5 and give it an interpretation that had nothing at all in common with its contextual meaning.
"For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape."
This verse was used in a way that is so far out of context, it's embarrassingly ridiculous.

We left the summer of 1993 so I wasn't going out of my way to take any classes in 1992 but when I was in-residence Craig had everyone come to one of those rooms (fireside room or something) in the middle of the night. He proceeded to teach on devil spirits for an hour or so. Ranting and Raving!!! to quote you, "Well," I thought, "couldn't this wait until the morning?"
Actually yes - and it was when you were in rez.

Was it "Dealing with the Adversary II: Seed of the Serpent?" May have been an advanced class special.
I remember we got a very special gift at the end of it - a picture of LCM himself in the rainbow tights outfit, javelin held back to throw and impale any seed boys that happened around.
Just what I wanted people to see when they came over for coffee!
How come I didn't get that piccy? Oh, I know, I was "serving" (on Beverage Crew again) not actually "attending" the class, probably. I think whilst in rez we suffered a "trial run" though.

Why?, I don't really know. Maybe it was to take people off guard. Maybe it was to frame the message in an aura of false urgency. Maybe it was because people are more willing to relinquish control of their logic and reason when they are sleep deprived. Personally, I think it was a method they borrowed from legitimate applications, such as the military, and exploited to their advantage. What I do know, from personal experience, is that it can prove to be very effective at squelching opposition.
I vividly remember "doctor" teaching MLK, Jr. went to communist party meetings several times when he was young...the implication being that he was one.
That middle of the night strategy seemed to be quite popular in TWI.

I don't know, but I will say that waking prisoners up in the middle of the night with a "bang" was a brain-washing technique used by the North Koreans. At least that's what I was taught in Principles of Democracy class in high school. I heard the same thing taught by John Somerville when I was College Division when the 6th Corps was in residence. LCM was at that same meeting. I'm not drawing any hard and fast conclusions here. Still, maybe there's a correlation. Then again, maybe not.

A great man who left a legacy of God's kindness into the world.
Charisma magazine a couple of months ago had a great article on one of the King family members who was involved in the pro-life movement.
Her picture on the cover of the magazine was so breath-takingly beautiful.
